21st May 2017West YorkshirePANDAS Sixth Single Channel & Retro R/C Fly-in 2017
Pontefract Park is located in the southwest corner of junction 32 of the M62. Access is via a huge white gate 1/4 mile south towards Pontefract, WF8 4QD.

The Sixth Single Channel & Retro R/C Fly-in at Pontefract Park, with hosts PANDAS, (Pontefract And District Aeromodellers Society). Last year’s event was a huge success having 120 plus visitors with 50 plus flying and having a great time.

Saturday the 20th is an open fun-flying day, whilst Sunday the 21st sees the actual S/C and Retro RC event - nothing too formal, we'll no doubt have the very popular and just-for-fun spot landing comp and a few prizes for anything special that catches our eye! On the day we will be joined as usual by the SAM35 lads, flying concurrently with the S/C and Retro enthusiasts. In fact any appropriate model from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s are welcome. The main objective as usual is to get everyone interested in retro-R/C flying together for equal amounts of banter, burgers, button-bashing and stick twitching!

Every year we have an optional 'theme' session – previously we had the 'Sharkfest', a full squadron of Mercury Galahads, the formation Veron Impalas, the 'Boddo' theme - and last year biplanes and unorthodox models – this year it’s ‘Geometrical Shapes’ for the ‘theme slot’ – deltas, circular models, ellipses etc… though of course the theme is just one event of many and throughout the day any s/c, retro or vintage models are welcome to fly.

Once again we will also have a busy Control-Line circle with the odd have-a-go session.

One special event this year is the Blunderbird Pylon Racing event; this is a low-key fun race using the ugliest model ever to feature in a magazine. Check out November 2016 RMC&E for the reprinted free plan then build one and join in the fun!

Updates and further information will be posted on the PANDAS website www.pandasaero.co.uk and also on www.singlechannel.co.uk as the plans develop.

Any queries regarding location, facilities & organisation to Shaun AND Phil (please cc both). This will ensure you get a reply (or two!):

18th - 20th August 2017BristolThe 2017 Bristol Model Engineering and Model Making Exhibition
 Thornbury Leisure Centre, Thornbury, Bristol

The next major event on the calendar for model engineers is the Bristol Model Engineering and Model Making Exhibition which takes place at Thornbury, near Bristol, on 18th to 20th August.  Thornbury Leisure Centre will be filled with a wide range of trade stands for tools and materials together with displays from clubs, societies and individual model engineers and model makers.

Steve Birch, Exhibition Manager for the Bristol Society of Model and Experimental Engineers, said:

“This year we are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of LBSC - “Lillian (“Curly”) Lawrence - and recognising the contribution he made to the world of model engineering.  Many of the clubs and societies attending this year will be displaying examples of locos built to LBSC’s “words and music”.  He designed 166 models ranging from ‘0’ gauge to 5” gauge and built over 50 himself, with some of his designs being up-scaled to 7¼”.

We will again be presenting a series of talks and demonstrations in a separate lecture room at the exhibition.  In particular, the demonstrations proved to be popular and we intend introducing more this year.”

Outside, besides the miniature traction engines and the Gas Turbine demonstrations, there are plans to show a ‘wood-burning’ tractor, along with a couple of fairground organs to provide entertainment.

The on-line ticket sales operation is now available for advance purchase of ‘Queue Hopper Tickets’ – visit: www.bristolmodelengineers.co.uk/Exhibition/tickets.html for all the information.

Admission to the meetings will be £4 for fliers and £1 for spectators, whilst accompanied children will be admitted free. Junior fliers will be charged as adult spectators. Fliers will be required to show proof of insurance.

Models to be flown at these meetings are to be limited to a maximum weight of 95 grammes (3.5 ounces), in flight trim, including battery (not to exceed a 2-cell Li-Po pack). All models should be 25mW 5.8GHz or Wi-Fi FPV equipped. Depending on the number of FPV models ready to fly there may be an opportunity to fly non-FPV equipped models.
