30 and 31st May 2010CumbriaNorth lakes Soaring Assoc Spring bank Holiday Fly-in
If you fancy a bit of relaxed slope soaring in one of the most beautiful areas of the UK, then pencil the bank holiday at the end of May (30th and 31st) into your diary, because as usual, The North Lakes Soaring Association will be holding their Spring Bank Holiday fly-in. George Bamkin has handed over the reigns of the association to Graham Iredale and Richard Cox, who together will be attempting to fulfil the role previously occupied by George, which is no easy task. Members of the association should already be aware of the few small changes that have taken place, but if you are not already a member, then visit the new website at www.nlsa.me.uk for full event, contact and membership details. Many people will no doubt be very aware of the recent devastating floods in our area, in towns such as Workington and Cockermouth, but just to reiterate the views of our local tourism board, the area is ‘very much open for business’, so whether you intend bringing a tent, caravan, mobile home or simply wish to stay in one of the many fantastic hotels in the area, do visit the website for further information. The weekend is always very relaxing, and caters for all abilities of flyer from absolute beginner to expert, with all kinds of ‘quiet’ model being welcome including PSS and electric. Any ‘competitions’ (usually thought up on the Sunday morning in a moment of weakness) are totally informal, great fun and good humoured and do not interfere with ‘normal’ flying. Indeed the only stipulations that are absolutely insisted upon are that you have proof of suitable third party insurance cover, and you have a great time whilst visiting our beautiful area. Further details will be posted on the website nearer the weekend so do add us to your ‘favourites’ and keep popping back to our website from time to time.

You must be able to show that your tank is empty before each attempt e.g. visual or pumped out from the clunk 7. All usual EDRCC rules regarding flying & safety are to be observed during the competition 8. Only 35 MHz & 2.4 GHz radio systems to be used 9. All aircraft taking part will be checked in conjunction with the competition/club rules & will be excluded if they can’t comply It is hoped this will become an established event & will not only raise money for a worthy cause but also encourage experimentation with different fuels, engine types, and aerofoil sections etc. There will be an annual trophy awarded, along with a small prize for first, second & third places. For those wishing to stay locally, there is a Caravan club campsite on the racecourse & hotel accommodation at Kennford just under 2 miles away.
