Well, she's maidened! Looked and sounded fantastic but sadly there is only one photo during the takeoff roll and the camera battery died after that. But she was great. She flew her without the cowl and with the gear down just to minimise any potential problems. Lucky about the gear though as one of the pneumatic lines disconnected in flight and since the gear is air up / air down, it would have been messy. Next week (year) it'll fly again but with cowl and fresh camera batteries.

good to see. my engine arrived last friday so need to fit it.

"Prosit" (well done in Maltese) Shaun and on my 41st birthday. I was very anxious to hear from you that finally it made it to its natural habit, the air.

Yesterday at my flying club (Hal-Far model flying association), our president test flew a very similar model like yours, similar dimensions, powered by Webra 120 on soft mounts and JR radio. It also flew great but the most beautiful part of the flight was its landing.

Well here's the video montage. Thanks to all who helped with their advice. She looks fab in the air, the retracts do work but there is a slight air leak so they will be changed for Eurokit spring airs, with an electronic valve. Otherwise, enjoy the video and feel free to PM if you want any encouragement. It was fun and easy to do, requiring no special tools, just patience.

A few pictures from yesterday. the retracts are still playing up at the moment and I had a worrying moment with one leg half down and the other up. A few loops and rolls shook them free though.

Nice pictures Shaun.Looks sunny too. For a once, im jelouse. Yesterday we had strong winds and very cold. Today on the other hand was sunny and warm again. Hope it will be good next Sunday.

Hi Shaun, very interesting thread. I am doing the Seagull Fury too. I am not however going to modify it too much LOL as the idea is to get it in the air without becoming attached, personilsing does tend to do that. I need some flap and retract practice, and my other models are too valuable to treat as a hack.

I am going to document the build as I am using almost solely Hong Kong bits and am doing it electric with 8 A123 M1 cells, and a £12 900watt motor pushed to 1200Watts and a £6 60A ESC. The idea is to show just how cheap this can be done, and to provide me a Fury to play with.

Can you tell me whether the estimated AUW was accurate at 9.5lbs and did you need to add any weight? one of my elevators feels like it is made of oak, but the rest of the plane is very well made, all bits fit accurately and is very light. For £99 (Leeds Model shop) it is excellent value!

Hi Danny. I did add a few bits such as a set of spring air retracts, a bit of litho etc. I didn't need to add any extra lead though, probably because I have on onboard glow against the front bulkhead with a sizeable sub c battery.

As for the weight, I'll need to re-weigh it after I get the retracts back on this weekend as I have finally got around to finishing it off after changing the retract gear.

I like the sound of your build, a very interesting way of doing things. But you can probably get most of the stuff you need in the UK for prices not too far off the HK rate.

Try BRC, Budget RC or one of the many other stores around. There's some great prices and good kit here in the UK at the moment.
