WELL, David A, over 10,000 "views" on my effort, on the Whirlwind,SURLY, this must persuade/influrence yourself and Tony, THAT, there is more than just a "passing interest" in the aircraft.?????. I/we "call apon you, and your staff", to look seriosly into drawing up and presenting a plan to those who have, and will keep looking, at one of the most underestimated WW2 fighters, all those in favor, put your fingers to the keyboard, and say YES,........ WHIRLWIND........... by Westland,........... of course. Barrry
Looks good Barry, I'm sure Tony will see the message. We don't have 'staff' as such - just Graham and I but I'll mention it to Tony when I see him next...
THank's David, Wot NO staff, I am supprised!, A mag this world wide and no help. even in Aus we can afford a few "fetchamites"....... Barry, But you haven't answered the Q, IF you need a hand I'll come over and help................
Well I've been thinking about this aeroplane on and off since about 1965 and done nothing! Typical me. But Barry you have got lots of people interested Im sure of that. So surely somebody must be out there with a drawing board and time on there hands to draw one up.
Well guys, not much this week, thinking about "springing" the main legs on the U/Cs , by using a "floating axle" on springs, trying to locate 3/16" dia. hard springs, 1 1/4 " travel has been a concern (where I am). hopfully I will have this sorted by the week's end. Covering the wing on weekend...........Barry.
Sorry guy's , I have been busy with "sanding and covering" the wing with resin, sanding again & again, Bench running in the 2 new TT 54, not OS, but there not bad at idle,1850revs with onboard glows, 2200 without, almost there ! pic's next week , NO not painted...... but progress... not going to add all the scale detail until It does at least one circuit,. ummmmmm, Barry
Great progress Barry, I am really keen to see the fully assembled model, please keep me posted on the TT54's I have a TT 91 and it is giving me a little agro at the moment.
Hi, guys, It has been a while, all work and.... etc........but back on it again, progress has been made, the above Pic's as you can see, U/C doors------- out of Fibreglss over a "shoe" carved block. The block was carved and sanded to 1/16 smaller alround , so that the final "size would be correct. "Clingwraped" before matt was applied and then as soon as the resin was applied, "wrapped agin to help with a smooth finish, also sqeezes out the air bubbles,I found that the "dyi"kits, the matting was too thick, but you can split the mat to the desired thickness. The "shoe" also gives a great support to aid, sanding back after the glass has set. Frames are 1/16 ply in the centre section and 1/8 balsa on the ends, the 4 hinges will be "sunk" into the nacelles, and then cut through the centre line. cockpit modificatoin done ,canopy cut to size, cowls await paint, tail feathers recovered, have to relieve the fus/ wing seat to get that 0deg to 0deg by 1/8 and that's it............. until next time painted I hope. Barry
It's looking really good Barry, for some reason a couple of my earlier post's did not post??????? I am looking forward to seeing the retract system and how it finally works also hope you are going to post a vid if possible, gotta see this one fly. I see Tony N has just about finished the Hurri pity it was not the Whirly, the outfit that cuts the large one over here is still not answering e-mail so my guess is they are really swamped with orders or out of the business.
Tony, Again, back to earlier mail, about TT 91, with one of TT54s ( 1st one started), I found after 10mins running, lost compression, valve stuck open,, took off tappet cover, small amount of metal in top,-- cause no oil up there, so I reoiled it and presto no more probs, so before I "ran up" the 2nd one, did the same, no trouble at all, maybe you might want to look at that.? Barry
