i,m looking for a battery for a gws pico slow stick ,the ni-cad type its 6.0~7.2/110~270mah ,have looked every where ,but no joy

Hi Carl,
You could try building a pack from 110mAh cells from here. If your looking for something bigger try building a pack from the 250mAh cells here. I can't think off the top of my head of one ready built, but these can't be hard to make. If I find a good pack in the next week, I will tell you! good luck!

The 6.0 - 7.2 gives you the number of nicad cells, 1.2 each nominally, so 6.0 = 5, and 7.2 = six cells.

As you cannot get the ones you want, (probably triple A size by the current) why not go for a lipo. more mah for the size, and a lot less weight.

The mah of the pack only tells you how long it will give power for. A pack with more mah will not hurt anything, it will just provide power for longer per charge.

Ah but he may not have a Lipo charger ? I too think he refers to 6.0 and 7.2V as the voltage not the cell count, so he is asking for either a 5 cell ( 6V ) or a 6 cell ( 7.2v ) as you say. Of course the other issue is that he may be searching for nicad...and these are as rare as hens teeth nowadays,

Everyones who is still using nickel based stuff is being forced to use NiMh

Carl - I was in EM Models in Tun Wells (my local shop) the other day and they had some ....collecting dust!

You can call them on 01892 536689.

thanks all ,i dont have lipo charger and the esc is a gws ics 100

Fair enough Carl although you're going to get a far far better performance and duration with Li-Po's

Sorry I didn't realise you wanted NiCads. The reccomended by me are NiMh...

Nicad vs lipo. True, Timbo, and if Carl goes lipo, he will need to replace the speedo with a lipo friendly one, too, and that will most likely involve changing the motor as well, because I don't recall seeing any lipo speedos with a two-wire brushed motor output.

He might be better off raiding Maplin, etc, and getting a six cell AAA battery box, (about 50p), and putting in six nimh or nicad, or even in a push, Mallory throwaways. (Would those have enough output to be useful in this role?)

would love to go lipo ,but wife not long gave birth ,so money is tight to say the least .like the idea of making my own , is it easy as you can see i,m not to good at this lol

Making your own what -  models or battery packs?

Let's start at the very beginning....

for lowish current packs, a plastics battery box will suffice, just tape the batteries in so they cannot fall out in flight! Once you start getting over an amp or so of current draw, you are best using welded packs. It CAN be done at home, with a high wattage soldering iron, but it is easy to wreck a nicad cell by overheating it.

If you mean models, yes. Start with a kit, such as a Westwings, which don't cost too much, and WORK. They contain most of the bits you need to get started. The hard part, with a new baby, is finding TIME!

There are some cheap and pretty decent LipOs around these days.

As for maikng your own packs ( LiPos ) forget it, many of them use special and rather fragile aluminium tabs requiring special techniques. Apart from the fire risk of getting it wrong...you wont save any money either.

You should try Overlander for batteries.

I find that NMhi and Nicads are interchangeable. I use both on my one EP model.

Overlander can be found at

I had a Pico-stik & the performance with the recommended JP 250mAH pack was very marginal-too heavy & not enough grunt & they expired after a few flights.

I would go for one of the small 2s Lipo's of 500-900mAH as sold for the micro helicopters-they have the same BEC type connectors & are lighter than the JP Nicad packs!-I bought 2 900 packs off Ebay for £11.95 inc P&P.

RCM Direct do a small Esky Lipo balance charger for £7 & Al's do a Combo pack (again Esky) comprising Micro Rx, 2x9g servos, 20A Lipo compatable brushed ESC(very small & light) & a set of crystals all for £25!!.

I have been using the above in a speed 400 powered glider with excellent results saving over 250g over the stated box weight of 600g using 'conventional' Nicad/Nimh gear-over 40%!!

At these prices, there really is no reason for using Nicad/Nimh packs now, particularly for small models, go for Lipo-you will be amazed by the performance & duration-you won't regret it!! (I speak as a dyed-in-the-wool IC nutcase as well!!)

If you must have Nimh-try these on Ebay ,No 330226369674-probably finished by the time you read this, but no bids & may be relisted-you never know!

Just had a look on Al's website & they do the Esky charger for £7 as well.

Peter, yes nicad and nimh are interchangeable, same cell voltage, but don't make a mixed pack up, that is asking for suddenly dead cells!

have looked on ebay and did miss it have email him ,but looking in to converting to lipo i do have a brushless motor and esc it came of another kit ,not sure how i,ll mount it as it didn,t come with a mount or gearbox
Show/hide user stats
You can get plastic 'stick' type mounts for mounting motors, or you can just glue & brace a small bulkhead to the front of your Pico-stik.

Budget RC have offers on the Esky Lama helicopter Lipo's (800mAH) for £5.49 at the moment.
