I do not pretend to follow a particularly eco friendly life style (I am a driving instructor!) but having consumed energy to make things, should you ever "junk" anything? I don't have a junk box - just a lot of storage! My ED Racer, Mills 75 & 13, AM 15, Cox 020 & 049s, Frog 500 etc all still work if required. We don't actually have a box neatly labelled "String too short to keep" but I can understand the philosophy!

I wonder just how green a Lipo battery really is when disposal is taken into account!

I would recommend another thread, by timbo I think on Lipos or energy from water. Due to the inffinite power it is possible to obtain from a Lipo, it may be possible to create a "black hole" into which the Lipo will self dispose.

I realy think you should attend our next "General Meeting" which is held on the 1/4/ evry year. It will help get this thread into perspective.

On a seperate note, processing metal ores typically generate a lot of nasty chemical !tails" to the process. Significant energy is required in the processing the ores into metals and wrought product. The amount of energy required to manufacture the engine from the wrought products is genrally relatively lower. To conserve energy and reduce impact on the environment, it is better to keep using the motors, if this is not sensible or fit in with your life style, pass the motor onto someone who would go out and buy your type of motor. If none of the above works then send the engine for recyling as this will reduce the environmental impact of processing from ore.

I am not an environmentalist or safety warrior, but I do dispair at the narrow assessement made when saying, this is good or bad. You really need to look at the "full cycle" or "total life". Not just some part in the beginning, middle or end.

I am also sceptical of most environmentist, when they say sun spot activity is irrelevant, the fact it was warmer in the Roman and Middle ages than now, that some basic sea life numbers do not follow the predicted model and you can go on in the same vain for a long time. Having worked fot the ****** you soon realise, that reports will reflect the political thrust of  your sponcer, that contractors (consultants) only get work if they are safe hands and responsible. Drafts remain drafts until the content has been corrected, even if it means turning evidence on its head. This situation has become more significant in the last 10 years. RANT OVER.

Back to motors, I am packing stuff ready to move house so sorted out a lot of my gear, I have twenty seven new and unused brushless motors in my collection from micro 10g to 180g lumps, nine ESC's with two more 40 amp on the way and seven RX's collected over the last two years for various projects i cant start until we are in another house and I have rebuilt my workroom.

After so many years building ship models I have gotten used to having an abundant supply of materials and fittings available to hand and waiting for a motor or some other bit of gear to arrive would do my head in so I have made sure I am well stocked for the future,

                                 regards,           Terry

If model (and full-size) power develops along the lines of the computer market, by the time an item reaches the shelf, it is obsolete anyway!

When my 20 stone plus neighbour stops abusing the environment with his overloaded sit-on lawn mower twice a week to mow his acre of grass then I'll stop flying my IC toys for the one hour a month I average now!

I hope you do not get your shopping in plastic bags as well. The planet will soon be under a 2m covering of Polythene, that is the word from the Environmentalists.

Of course you do not need to forsake your IC motors, to collect electric motors. Just think you could have a fine collection on display on your Fireplace or window sill. Your wife and neighbours will swoon with envy.

Join us at the next April the first meeting, starts immediatly I wake up and finishes about lunch time.

You get money back from Tesco if you reuse shopping bags! I'll bookmark the April Fools meeting but I've no idea what my work schedule is.
