 well spoke to Phil @ Fighteraces this morning and some pots of his finest warbird paint is on its way to me. Sorry Shaun but the Sea Fury really is only available in one scheme and thats the same as yours, so thats' how it will be. I have also taken your lead and saved myself the grief of having to cut too many stencils and bought the decal set from Pyramid I haven't spoken to Chris yet as to what scheme he will do his or if indeed if he will change it. He has already ordered all the same bits as mine but we are going to change the motor. The 900 watt 500kv Turnigy turns too small a prop, and it just looks like a silly IC prop. I have this urge to go up to a 19" or 20" with a much lower KV the power will be the same, the revs much lower, and the prop much more efficient. Anyway a motor has been chosen and is on its way. I made a three bladed prop for the Hurricane, shall I have a go at making a 5 blader..............

 Nice 3 blader there Danny ! If its any help, my Turnigy 400Kv is destined for my hangar 9 camel, and I have run some tests a few months back on my intended set-up. 4S2P LiPo ( yes I know you will be using M1s ) at total capacity of 6400mahr so they hold 15V under load Turnigy 400 Kv 1200 watt motor 16 x 10 prop. This gave 600 watts at 40A static, and I expect a duration of around 12 - 15 minutes. RPM was 5500 The bird should weigh around 8.5 lbs AU, so will be on approx 70 WPlb - should be good for nice scale speed. I would have thought you want a bit more speed ( and thrust ) on your Sea Fury, but using the 6s LiFes will probably spin the 500kv a bit too fast, or if loading with a nice big prop would be pulling too much current, so you are right to try a lower Kv. I could of course go much higher on the wattage of mine, but at the cost of duration. I may well try this motor with the 6s M1s ( the other 2 cells arrived today ) and a different prop. I need a big diameter prop for the size of the cowl apart from anything else.

 We have ordered two of these motors for the Fury's They will spin big props on 8 cells A123, Kv of 350, will cost us half a pound in extra weight but the model could do with some weight in a breeze. Besides this will mean we can shorten the cowl to a more scale-like length and maintain the c of g

 If you plan on using a 19" prop with 8 Lifes thats around 24V under load and I think your current draw will be very high - the specs on bungymania state 57A on 6s LiPo with an 18 X 10 and thats at only 19V under load! Me thinks you will find the 19" too big.

 yes i agree, I was hoping, but in reality the 17" may be more reasonable for flight duration. The problem is the motors get heavier as you go down in KVM and I can't find one with a good weight that is low enough. don't want to use a gearbox

You guys are killing me again, 19v x 57 amps = 1083 watts, and anyone can figure that 1083w/24v = 45 amps,the question is whether the esc can handle the 24 v ( make that 32 V if they are 8 x Lipos at appr. 4.1v full charge). I did find a site to do with AXI twin in line pushing a 26 x 10 i think, with a 8 foot span in a 3D stunter, i think it was a Cap, on the ground the wine of the leccy was a give away, but the prop sound in the air was like the real thing, grrrroooowwwwllllllll.  What are you saying Marty? that we are totally loony LOL - I will take that as a compliment The hurricane first flight was on a 20 x 10 producing more than 2Kw went well, just not for long enough you have to remember I play with A123 M1 cells so the voltage is lower than with lipos the ESC has contained all the smoke so far  Cheers Danny

Hey Danny, go Lipo like my foam Cessna 900 wing span with a 6x4 and a 3200kv with the 2200 3 cell, climbs like a Gemini Rocket straight off the runway to about 400 metres. Well who said you have to fly scale..... Marty

 Marty, your assumption that on 24V the Wattage will still be the same, and therefore the current lower ( " quote 1083 /24 = 45A" ) ....is not correct. As Danny was planning to use an even larger prop ( 19" ) and a higher voltage of 24v ( 8 x M1s @ approx 3v each under load ).... then on the same motor ( which it is ) the current will INCREASE along with Watts. I dont know which ESC danny is using, but there are plenty available these days which will handlethese higher voltages - I have for instance just spent a whopping £16 on a 50A capable ESC which will accept up to 30V input.

 I don't know what ESC I am using yet the $11.95 one is still going, we will have to see if I have to drop in another slightly more manly one  I really do think big props looks the business though, look at the arc on the Hurricane ;)

Hey Timbo send me the specs, does it take 8cell lipos? in reality 8 will give more than 30v anything up to 33v, what brand is it? I actually have a few 50 amps that only take 6 cell 25v. Once we move house again, and finish the rebuild of the family station wagon (did I say family? - I meant aircraft) I want to start on a few scratchies have a couple of 800kvs to push 16 inch - should make a nice Thunderbolt or maybe a WW11 Boomerang, there goes my next holiday....

 Marty, 800kv thats edf territory, get them revs down then you can go to scale size, and even multiblade. This is Stian from Norways Spitfire XIV he flies on that prop!!! (a home made prop hub using Solo blades)

I have a set of 3 5000kv for small edfs (50mms) for something special like a meteor and a scratch venom, got to move house yada yada, then send her home to see her dad (for a year of two heh heh), seroiusly gotta finish the car to carry the planes, and a couple of gliders, and ........one day I'll wake up

 I have been looking at the power solution on the Fury and I am going to put a bigger motor in. The main reason is to get the prop speed down and thus make it more efficient, also with the lower KV value of the new motor I will be able to swing a bigger prop. the smaller props just don't look right. This newer motor is shown alongside the current motor for comparison the APC prop in the picture is a 17" x 10 to give some scale. the motor should be good for about 1200 watts so the loud peddle must be used with caution if decent flight times are to be achieved. In theory, and this is another reason to carry out the exercise, the larger slower prop should be more effiicient and therefore the flight longer due to less wasted energy. The spinner in the picture is from UH and is a 4" jobbie, we wont say how much it was but it was well under £5
