Well this is a first, I thought I would share my build thread with you all. Please feel free to comment as and when you feel like it. All this started from my visit to Timbo's at the Great Orme. Having seen his Wildthing Zip around the sky I thought I have gotta have one. So I searched the net and found ............................NOT alot !!! Then I found out the SAS part of the name. ta da!! So a quick visit to www.freewebs.com/sasepp And after much pondering I decided to go for the MK3 50" Wildthing. To order it I gave the owner/designer/flyer (Alan Head) A quick bell. After a little chat he said it will be on it's way asap. And true to his word it arrived 2days later. So this is what arrived, As you can see theres quite a good compliment in the box. Even glue and tape.

So to the build, The instructions are very clear and walk you through the build well. I started with the wing prep, Taking all the hard lumps and scabby bits off and sanding it smooth as a babies bum. Then rounded the le and wing tips off. Time to hack up some servo's, I dremil'd the Lugs off and smoothed the sides of the servo's. Then check fitted them. As you will see later the check fit was the wrong way round "oh well not all perfect". Next job was to cover the wing in CW tape ( not a quick job either) Making sure I was doing it right I measured the joints to 6mm on every layer of tape. This took some time but I got a great result after alot of fussing. NOTE NO 3M77 REQ. More soon...... Lee

Nice one Lee, and thanks for sharing the build with us all. The wings are the easy bit - the double curvature of the fus nose is a bit of a pig to cover neatly I also found that the COG point was very much a starting place, and had to add a bit more nose weight than suggested, in order to get decent penetration. best method by far is the dive test. Get some height, put it into a 45 degree dive across the slope face, and watch the nose for tuck under / climb. IF it it climbs, then REDUCE the nose weight, if it tucks under ( diving steeper towards the bottom of the dive ) ADD nose weight.

Next job Test fit the carbon spar, Sung on one side slightly loose on the other. So I used a little masking tape just to take up the slack ( as per instruction's ) Then stippled the latex glue on both wing end's and waited and waited hmmmmm. Once clear I brought them together and once inline I gave them some pressure. A joint of CW tape and the wing is joined. On to the elevons, These are very easy to fit and took second as there already prep'd for you. Used the CW tape for hinges and fitted the control arms. (theres a small strip of balsa that you cut up and insert into the elevon for strength at the point the arm's are mounted) Then set the throws as per instructions and your ready to cover. I have used the supplied tape and some of my large stock of box tape. So thats the build so far on the 2/09/07. Just the fuse to do now really. Hope its all clear Lee Morgan

Well now on to the fuse Sand and smooth as with the wing, then cover OMG, The way it's phrased in the manual you would swear it took 5 min's to do. Well that was a sod to do, Moving on..... Fit the switch (easy) Then mount the fuse to the wing, All very simple using the CW tape at intervals. Then fit the Tail, Again well described and easy to do. Carefull on the placing due to the use of d/sided tape. then your almost there. Well thats about it I think, Few little fetles here and there. Oh and a lipo conversion asap when I get some more money. I will post a vid once I have maidened it. Best Regards Lee

Well the maiden voyage went well, Tended to lift its nose alot with the COG exactly where the instruction tell you it should be, So I dialed in some down elevator and continued flying, Summary : Flew quite fast will go faster when I get used to it , did all the moves I can do and went where I wanted it to. I love it and if you want a ship that looks better than a zagi fly's better and is just as indestructable good fun then this is for you. Oh and we had a visitor on our field today, Hi Richard thanks for coming with us look forward to doing it again soon. Tim you up for some battle then are you ? Right you are then I will come up as soon as poss prob october now, I will let you know so that I can collect the lipo stuff at the same time, As always just need to sort some dosh first m8. Best Regards Lee

Rather than dial in down elevator, shift the battery slightly rearward, and remember that the LiPo will be lighter so it will shift it back anyway.

Hi Lee. After reading your build thread , I was hooked that's the plane for me i said, A quick phone call to Alan Head ( well not not quick) wot a lovely Guy...I ended up purchasing a SAS Fusion with a 60 inch wing span, again your article is a help for the fusion as well as the wildthing, as yet i have only flown in light winds .but its going to be a fast sloper in a bit of a blow. Thanks Phil ( cruncherphil) Type in cruncherphil on youtube video of my fusion 60 maiden flight http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VE9FwMoU6hI

Hi Lee, I live in Pembrokeshire and am just getting back into Sloping after a break of 30 years, I started RC flying with a group of mates about 3 years ago and have a souped up easystar, an easyglider, a mini ultrastik, an ultrastick extreme, an svist motor glider, and a filip 600 sport,( i am working on this at the moment,i snapped the tail boom on Sunday) That's why they are called crunchies . and my latest addition the SAS fusion. The maiden was last Sunday, it flew well with the stock settings. but i noticed that you have to keep the speed up for any fancy stuff, but i have a sneaking feeling that it will go like stink in stronger winds......I am checking out various new sites for different wind directions we are spoilt for choice in Pembrokeshire as we have the Preseli hills in the North of the County and 160 miles of cliff tops to try out.... my flying buddies will all want an SAS models, as i can see that they are extremely ding proof . and good fun to fly , I will post video updates of my SAS learning curve... PS a Fly-in sounds good. Regards Phil
