Hi All

It's my turn now, cleared the decks enough to make a start on my Jart.

To bring you up to speed, I got my plan from Reed before christmas, and had a mate make me some cores.

I've opted for a built up fuselage and a foam / glassed wing, and filmed tail. I've created a CAD file all be it a bit primative but it allows me to try before I glue and is currently a work in progress which will be updated as the build goes on.

I've taken inspiration from the many build threads, and in particular this one detailing an Old school Jart.

I expect this so be a slow burn as I tend to have several projects on the go at one time, that way if I get stuck / bored / mess things up / just need a break I have something else to keep me out of the way (as it were).

2 other projects that I hope to start over the coming months are 2 models from Ron Marston at www.pteroworks.com/ namely his 80" Marston Pterodactyl and a 3D Fish which considering it simplicity will brobably fly before the Jart.

I'll keep you posted (excuse the pun)

Its started.

Ply sides from paper (CAD) template, you cant see them but I use small holes at the LE & TE on each side to give me the wing datum, there are also small holes at the nose and 2 at the tail, I use cut off lengths of push rod wire passed through the holes and use them to align the sides when gluing together.

Fuselage internals showing the formers, and snakes for elevator and rudder!!

Fuselage pulled together - the sided where stuck together with slow araldite, using the drilled holes to line everything up. The clamp are holding the hardwood hose block.

Next stage is to complete the ply box, cut the canopy and block sheet ready for shaping.

I've put some more pics of how I'm doing things on my web space at www.andy-green.co.uk/jart I'll just use this or updates and any comment (if I get any)

Ply box waiting for sides, and shaping - if you squint you can see a Jart in there somewhere.

Wing panel, blue foam, glassed and vac bagged, kevlar along aileron hinge line for 'live' hinges.

Filing the top skin to make the hinge.

Bottom of wing showing hinge gap and Cubitt models servo mount. Look at the shine on the wing from the flash - lovely.

Thats all for now.

Hi All

I've moved on. Tail plane together with a carbon spar, well actusally I used the off cut end from the 3D Fish build, as it would have beed a shame to throw it way, and here is not much support at the end for the tail.

http://www.andy-green.co.uk/jart/images/15_tn.jpg

Fuselage planking, with 12mm & 9mm balsa, sandwiched with 1oz glass cloth the give a ply / glass / balsa construction.

The top and sides are done so it's just the sides to do, but I need to make provision for the elevator before I plank in the tail fullt. I cant wait to get sanding though and reveal that Jart shape.

The wings are also joined, waiting the glassiing of the centre section, I'm starting to get excited about colour shemes.

There are more pictures on my own web space here.

It's been a while, but following the house move and the garage refit as a workshop, I'm all set to continue.

First job is to shape the blank to tease out that Jart shape that in there somewhere. Does anyone remember those toys from several years ago with a plastic model inside a plaster block.

Hi Lee

I do look at your thread from time to time to see if you've moved on.

My build slowed down due to a house move, but back up and running now. With all this 'Jart wind' we've been having I'm disappointed I've not finished it yet, but soon.

Hope to get the fuse finished this week, and thats all the building done, get it glassed, stick the wings in, can of grafitti spray from halfords and off to the slope.

Fuselage sanded and waiting for covering, it's going to be glass / epoxy though I'm toying with the idea of a stocking (or 2) instead of the glass.

How you getting on Lee - maybe we could maiden them together - A (Jart) world first?
