Hi,can anyone tell me if Shrewsbury Model Centre still exists, and if so is it still in the town.

Hello Chris. Shrewsbury Model Centre moved from the town centre about 2 years ago and now sells only model railway stuff. There is a good model shop at Whitchurch.

Forshaw's in Wigan did the same thing. Trains and plastic kits. yeuk!

Thanks Richard,Thats a shame most of my models and bits came from there over the last 24 years or so,Will try Whitchurch next time I go to Manchester up the 49.

Hi Eric, model trains must be getting popular again mine are all in boxes in the loft.

Shrewsbury M.C was in St Johns Hill and for a while had a nice shop down at the Riverside Centre but after a few years closed this one, back to the original shop at St Johns Hill run by Peter who was a great guy and never short of time to chat.

Sadly Pete died getting on for three years ago and his son Mathew took over but Mathew just hadnt got the interest or the business acumen his dad had and moved out to Battlefield Enterprise Park where he dropped everything except model railways stocking the large scales mainly and some very expensive toys, it isnt Shrewbury model centre anymore in my view, just another toy shop for Big Fat Controllers,

                         regards,      Terry

Hi Chris,

there is still a couple of model shops in Shrewsbury one near the market and I think another up on Castle Foregate but I am not sure where, the demise of Shrewsbury Model centre does leave quite a void with only smaller shops catering for toys plus some modelmaking stuff in the area,

                                  regards,             Terry

The model shop is still there in Hereford & there is also one in Leominster-both sell toys etc also.

Hi Mark-Does the Hereford model shop still sell model planes,I haven`t been there for 10 years or more.

The best shop for me was Martins Models,BUT my Ex came from Leominster ,so best to keep away from the town center.

Hi Christopher-yes, not a bad selection-at the back of the shop, to the right. You're right, Leominster is a small place!!!

Steve Webbs, Webbies, in Frodsham is an aeromodeller's paradise! You cannot go in there with only five minutes to spare, because once you start rummaging....

Trains, Chris, last time i looked at trains, I was about 20, and N gauge was all the rage! Tried that, had fun, got bored, moved on. Looked on a website for timewasting purposes, and found that trains are now computer controlled, there's a chip in the loco, you dial up the chip id, tell it how fast to go, and sit back. One controller can run a dozen loco's simultaneously. I suppose that leads to bigger crashes at the station!

Hi Mark-Thanks I shall have to get down there soon,I need some fuel for my new 4 stroke, and a few other bits, and then stop at Dinmore caravans on the way back for some sealant for the old caravan.

Eric-I tried N gauge briefly but too small and fiddly,I like OO gauge. In the early 80s I had a set controlled by Hornby Zero 1 that was computerized, every loco had a chip fitted, double headers,2 seperate trains on 1 track etc.one big crash and that was it.went back to the old controllers.

I shall have to go to Steve Webb some time sounds ideal for a rainy day.

Where abouts is it in Frodsham.

Basically, Frodsham is a T shape. Find the middle, turn up the tee towards, and past, the railway station. A bit further up on the right is a little shopping precinct set back behind an equally small carpark. Webbies is about fifty yards further on. There is limited parking down the side immediately before the shop, if you can find a space. The road is called Church street, and the postcode, if you have a satnav, is WA6 6QU street number 80. The shop-front is quite narrow, but it goes back a long way, and there are two floors to go at!

There is a two page ad in the May mag, pages 78 - 79.

At this point I must state that I have no connection with the business except as a satisfied customer.

If you must visit the Steve Webb emporium and your family insists on accompaniing you, drop them off at the Lady Heyes Craft Centre just off the B5152 from Frodsham to Delamere. There they will find a miriad of things to see and do (please note money may be required) while you attend to important business.

Lady Heyes is on the left approximately 1½ miles from Frodsham.

Isn't that a card-maker's paradise?
