Thought it was a park flyer, turns out it can be flown at speeds up to 120mph  .

Guy in my local model shop confirmed that it is used in pylon racing.

So when I reduce it to its basic components(crash), I can use the motor,if it survives, in the 3D foamy you sent me at christmas.

Fitted the aileron servo and ailerons.

Wing is sheet balsa with a foam core, the fuselage and tail are of traditional balsa construction all  covered with  solar film or something similar.

Elevator servo in place.

Wing with aileron servo trial fitting.

Tailplane assembly glued to the fuselage.

Motor ,prop and spinner in place,not a bad fit.

Not much room.

Two piece canopy glued and taped.

The front bubble  part of the canopy is  supplied ready formed but the rear has to be formed out of scap  sheet acetate.I achieved this by cutting  roughly to size then moulding it round te canopy frame with careful use of a heat gun and glued in place as shown.

The hatch is held in place with the use of a short piece of dowel at the front and a magnet catch at the rear. The frame detail on the canopy is achieved with a silver paint pen.

The wing can be permanently glued in place but I chose to make it removable using a single wing mounting bolt  at the rear of the wing and a short length of dowel at the front,

I used a standard control horn a brass linkage soldered to the control rod.

The COG is quite easy to achieve moving the Lipo forward or back.

I was surprised to find no form of ventilation for the cooling of the motor train.

I have made small openings in the nose top and bottom and a  opening underneath the small faring on the fuselage side, leaving a narrow gap behind the trailing edge of the wing to provide some cooling ventilation.

First flight , or maybe not.

Well checked it over before first flight ,everything spot on .

Hand launched ,climbed at about 45 degrees and promptly flick rolled, by this time I had both hands back on the Tx, so I  rolled it level  it level needed a lot of down elevator to stop it going vertical,very hard to keep level with the ailerons. going quite fast by now so I tried reducing power a little ,very tail heavy just could not contol it cut the power and tried to fly a controlled landing , flick rolled again and it hit the ground.

I think the CofG was too far back although it balanced as per the instructions. Lipo was well secured so that did not slip back.

It will repair bits of balsa anda new prop will sort it , motor train all ok.

I have been flying the Spit  regular, trying to perfect my poor hand launch , not bad at it now so I may try to fly the 109 in the near future .

Converting the Boomerang to a tail dragger to to practice take off and landing in preperation for flying the P-40  .

Still got  to fit the new exhaust and finish off the P-40.

 Sorry to see her nose in that condition...

Sounds like the climb was way too steep and she stalled and bit you for your trouble.

But, like you said, some glue and new prop and she'll fly again...

Of course you will check your incidences when you glue it back together as you don't want your firewall to change the thrust angle and cause issues.

Good luck putting her back together and the coming re-maiden event.

I have one of these kits on the shelf and having seen video of one flying on RCGroups I know my skills won't equal what she needs...

It's back on the shelf for now, may rebuild it over the winter.

My Wife decided to treat me to a GWS FW190 for my birthday, so the micro servos from the Ki61have been redeployed. 

Been  flying my Ripmax Spitfire and Me109( at last) during the fleeting spells of good weather.

Hope to put the Fw190 together over the next few weeks.
