 I have a lipo battery that was slightly damaged following an airborne ejection from my multiplex funjet (long story) The battery flew 50 yards horizontally before hitting our grass patch. At home, I hooked up this lipo to my Ultramat 12 charger and F/P v-balance and it won't charge. Has this happened to anyone else before and what action have they taken afterwards? (The charger and balancer work perfectly with my other lipos.) Jonathan

 Check the individual cell voltages via the balance lead - if one is reading nil, then probably a connecting tab inside the pack has broken off. Many are aluminium, and very tricky to repair. If it is so, then you could CAREFULLY disassemble the pack and salvage remaining cells ( EG: if it was 3s pack, you could convert it now to a 2s )

 DO NOT try to solder it!!! And work outside, just in case. If it does a nasty, you can drop it onto the paving flags and leg it!

if you seriously want to just dispose of it, the recommended way is to first discharge the pack on a discharger or by connecting a bulb across it or similar then carefully puncture the package ( well away from the terminals ) with a sharp large nail or similar, and immerse the thing in a bucket of salt water. Leave for around a week ( outside and somewhere safe of course ) and then dispose of it in the rubbish. I suppose these days with the waste disposal directive and so on, if you bought it from a shop you could take it back to them, and let them dispose of it.

And due to where Timbo lives, he has access to plenty of salt water! Perhaps Timbo takes a catapult up the Orme with him, and fires his dud cells off into the setting sun?

Probably not a bad idea...but only ever had to dispose of one pack some time ago, and the nail didn't cause any fireworks, much to my disappointment Should have said about discharging it first  - other post amended appropriately i haven't checked whether al the cells are dead yet, but will do soon. Then I can decide what to do with it. Thanks again for the advice. Personally, if I had a suspect pack lying about the place, I would be dealing with it one way or another NOW! Hope it is kept somewhere safe and fireproof until you sort it

Whoops - it is sitting on the shelf with all my other packs . I'll go and move it now. Sorted. Should i discharge it to zero volts and should i do this with my charger/discharger?

Yes, discharge it as low as you can get it ( assuming you have decided its dead ) and monitor the process to watch for any potential problems.
