I am purchasing a Chris Foss Uno-Wot on Wednesday and need to know which engine best suits this model and fits in very easily. What is the difference between using a four stroke or a two stroke?Bare in mind that I am an absolute beginer to the petrol engined aircraft.I am really looking forward to building up this model and will be asking lots of questions to all you out there who know your stuff.Thanks. David.

Good choice...the 4 channel version I hope Is it this version?

2 Stroke will suit you, as a complete beginner, better than 4 stroke. There is generally less to go wrong, and £ for £ you will get better performance from it. Generally speaking, 4 strokes will swing bigger props, slower...ideal for scale and warbird type models, they are generally perceived as quieter due to the lower revs, but do require a little more experience and maintenance than the simpler "no valve / tappets" 2 stroke.

There are several perfectly acceptable "cheaper than OS " type 2stroke engines available these days such as SC or ASP ( the same engines anyway ) but of course, if money is no object, then OS have a deservedly fine reputation. I have only 3 X IC powered models left in my fleet these days, an SC 91 FS in a Spitfire, and a smaller 52 2 stroke in a Wot 4 - both perform excellently.

I also have a redundant nearly new Thunder Tiger 42GP which is also fine - would power your Uno Wot great !

( Message me if you want it. )

Hi David

A uno wot is a really great choice. I've built quite a few Foss kits, so if you need to talk, please ask,

Re engine, as Timbo says, a 2 stroke is so much simpler, and cheaper. You probably need a 30, but if you have a mechanical type brain, then a 4 stroke is just so much more satisfying. They are wee masterpieces.  But, if you need to buy engines, or need advice, contact Just Engines..Ask for Jenny.

I'll second that recommendation for contacting just engines. Very helpful (and knowledgeable). I'd recommend their own brand engine as a cheaper alternative to OS.

Service as it should be

Yes, they have a j'en 37 which would be fine....try them at  www.justengines
