http://adds.aviationweather.gov/tafs/index.php - You need to know the ICAO identifier for the airfield, EGOS in Shawbury's case. This will give you the weather updated hourly, but in an aviation format.
xcweather, and isleofwightweather.co.uk which is useful for radio hams as well. because it includes a thunderstorm/lightning detector overlaid on a map of yurrup. Unfortunately for us oop north, the alarm function is not of much value, as it is centred on the Isle of Wight!
I use the Metoffice because as far as I am aware this is where all the other sites obtain their basic information from. I also like it because you can 'tune in' to a particular area. As well as noting the predictions they give I also like to look at the surface pressure charts to try and work out where they are coming from or rather where the wind is likely to come from and at what strength. By and large though, at the end of the day, after all is said and done this little country island of ours situated slap bang in the path of the atlantic depressions with such a vast variation in topography and the jet stream almost overhead, is it any wander that forecasts can be so wrong. Unless its pretty obvious otherwise, I go with my instinct! And find myself in another fine mess!
xcweather does that, too. Put your cursor on the area you want, and a pop-up box appears on the right of the screen with windspeed, direction, temperature, precip, etc, for several days in the future.
