Thread: Repairing Fibreglass Mouldings

Same procedure for epoxy or polyester resin. Use clear tape on the outside to pull the damage together. Use thin pieces of ply to bridge where necessary. Patch repair with thin cloth on the inside. Remove tape and fill cracks , sand and repaint . Repaired many a racing model boat in this fashion. Colin

Thread: Winters Here Who's Been Flying ?

4 of us out at 9am this morning before the wind picked up by 10 am. No dramas but fingers soon numb despite gloves ! Just tried a new HK Graphene lipo and getting a further minute run time with the battery coming down stone cold . Vertical noticeably stronger 😁 Still early days but promising !😉 Colin

Have a look at the Sebart Stev 30. If it flies as well as the previous Shark , it will fly itself and teach you aerobatics easily ! Colin

Thread: WOT 4 repairs - What adhesive and how?
26/11/2017 15:40:06

I have used Deluxe Materials Foam to Foam very successfully ! My foamy Acrowot had the front off twice and the glue line didn't break. It's transparent so repairs are not ugly like Gorilla Glue . My clubmates EFlite Spit nose came off on a daft downwards roll and having used F2F and repainted you can't see the join (as Eric used to say ) !😉 It flies just the same after the repair ! Colin

Nigel. If you really want to try a stabiliser rx ,try the LemonRx 7 Ch Stabilised . Easily set by pots at the field and switchable on/off. Cheap as chips and totally reliable. Colin

Ah yes ! Following your chopper round the field whilst attempting control !! I remember that ! In Bath MHC we all stood around the field hovering in little spaces at the same time !😫😫 Fantastic ! Colin

Thread: First scale build

Hi Eric. I have just put a Blade 450x into an Align Hughes. Needed a bit of fettling to mount it but not an ordeal. I used to build Morley Augusta’s for their display team and this installation was a piece of cake in comparison . Just have a look at what’s around including EBay and have a play ! As long as the boom can fit it won’t be too taxing I’m sure !😜 Colin

The boating film reminds me of 1969 when I started boating at Blackheath and Clapham Long Pond . Multitudes of kids and grown ups politely watching whilst giving you room to move. Asking sensible questions and even setting up their picnics for the afternoon ! Nostalgia ain't what it used to be !😉 Colin

Thread: Autumn here...who's been flying ?

Perfect in Somerset today first thing ! Zero wind ! Much better than hot sweaty summer days but that's just my opinion ! Anyone managed to get a Parkzone Sukhoi 29 flying well in non 3D mode ? Colin

Stinson Reliant at 4pm. White / red colour scheme just like the Parkzone. Quite low ! Sounded nice! Colin

img_20171025_160205.jpgBeen busy on choppers for a few weeks . Finished an Align 470 started in April. The mechanics are ok but getting the Spekkie Beast set up stretches the brain at my age . The Hughes is an Align body hiding a Blade 450 X picked up for £120 including case and lots of spares. Basically unused ! The Hughes was ok from the start and looks great. Needed a small amount of lead in the fuselage front to balance. The Align took several attempts to get off the ground cleanly and several resets of the Rx to get there, but today just a tail rotor gyro reverse and away ! Trimming next and a rubber car mat to take off from !2017-10-14 09.52.51.jpg

Thread: Cataract surgery and model flying.
30/09/2017 15:51:51

Too right !! Especially when the 4 foot needle goes into the corner of your eye !😨 The anaesthetic wore off on the second op when the antibiotic needle was going in !!😨 Different but not as bad as a colonoscopy ! Colin

30/09/2017 12:09:17

Scott. I had cataract surgery on both eyes 15-16 years ago and was able to choose lenses that meant no specs for day to day use. Sight is still better than all those years with specs since aged 7 ! No problems since and although I wouldn't say focus is pin sharp at vast distance its still good enough for toy planes . I can still drive at night and many folk say they can't after surgery. All positive. Still need cheap readers cos close focus goes after surgery ! Good sight was immediately afterwards. Colin
