| 3 forum posts | Hi all, Just got hold of a plan for the 30" Tucano (yes the one thats several years old). Given the recent advances with the electric side of things can anyone recommend a suitable powertrain for this model? Thanks |

| 495 forum posts | Hi Chris. I'm not in to electric flight, but if I ever do decide to give it a try I think my first port of call would be to john emms at puffin models.Give them a try! www.puffinmodels.com Or tel. 01454 228184 Hope this helps, Allan J..TTFN |

83 forum posts 9 photos | Hi All I think the fact there is only one response to this thread is indicative of the respect for John Emms & his knowledge of appropriate power trains for electric models. Right on the mark Allan. A shame though that this curtails a possible debate/dissemination of information on the subject. All I'm going to say to others is look at page 68 of the recently published RCM&E special, Nigel Hawes article titled Electric Success. It's great to take advice, but I for one like to develop some knowledge on any given subject. Keith PS: RCM&E, any vacancies in your marketing department |

| 21 forum posts 11 photos | Hi Chris! Keep it light and you can use a small outrunner. In my Tucano 30” i have a 29 gram motor with a kv 1550. ![]() You can see the performance in this videohttp://www.rcuvideos.com/item/KQJC36NXCZ4664CL And here is the build treadhttp://www.svensktmodellflyg.se/forum1.asp?viewmode=1&msgid=105864&page=&CurrentMainTopic=11 / Robert |

| 3 forum posts | Thanks for the replies guys. As much as phoning somehwere like puffin models will give all the answers, I like Keith like to develop some knowledge. I read the RCM&E special which has given me a few pointers to start with. Thanks for the link to bulid thread Robert, as I only have a plan (no mag) that will help me with the bulid! Im guessing you used a 3s lipo in your model, what amp Esc was that with? Out of interest how does the model fly? |

6604 forum posts 2 photos | I'm a great believer in putting in the biggest motor/engine that will fit, and USING THE THROTTLE. In my opinion, that gives you the option of whacking on full wellie and getting out of a mess, sometimes. |

573 forum posts | I've been flying one of these with the cheapy bell outrunner, 7x5 prop and a variety of 7 - 9 cell NiCD/NiMH packs. Flies very well indeed. The only downer is - you risk bending the motor shaft on every landing (the brake on the basic ESC's that come with these motors is not powerful enough to stop the prop windmilling). I tried a shock-absorbing prop mount - i.e. prop held on by rubber O-rings. These worked very well, but the prop allways ran slightly out of true. So I tried a lightweight U/C - my landing skills were not up to it - and it just ended up getting sheared off. Solution? I'm sticking a cox on the front. Ali |

573 forum posts | I was left with a wing in two pieces after the 45" Hawes Tucano I'd built went in the other week. Would he grumble if I glassed 'em back together, ran up a 1/2" profile fus. and stuck a crusty OS 40 on the front?

| 33 forum posts | Hi all, I,m building the Nigel hawes electric tucano, can anyone tell me where I can obtain the canopy. You could get them from Nexus Plans Service, ref. rc 1890. cheers |

573 forum posts | Hiya Vortex vacforms still sell them I think - and it's the same canopy as for the Hawk. Google the name and you should find them fairly easily. My tucano goes great with a cox black widow on the front - and it's lighter (than the Nicad/NiMh version) - it glides well and now bounces rather than splintering on every landing - and it refuels quicker (stir stir stir) This'll have the lipo-jumkies in a lather AlistairT |

661 forum posts 4 photos | I have just found an early kit that Nigel Hawes produced and have started the build . I know its an electric design but has anyone fitted a Cox TeeDee 049 or a 051 ? I thought I might give this a go with a fuel cut off as no throttle on engine so should be fun .Noisy but Fun |
