Well, mine has arrived this morning so I now need to find room on the bench to make a start. It is a lovely quality kit and much more exciting than opening an ARTF.

Mine has just arrived as well. My problem is I have a BT Tempest in build (trying to re-design the wing to take retracts a t present), so I'm not sure when I'll get to start it.

Mike.

Stop it! I've got both the Bf 110 and the La 7 untouched and unstarted but I'm very tempted by the mention that there are 3 kits available, once they're gone, they're gone....

Little note : Refer to plan for correct dihedral . There is a comment in the instructions that suggests it is already set but that isnt strictly true , The angle suggested on the lan is the best compromise.

I took all the dihedral out of mine in the pursuit of scale but I slightly regret it as it looks odd from some angles due to the thicker than scale wingtip. It makes no difference to the flying, it just looks strange on occasion.

Richard, Many thanks to you - my kit arrived today and was waiting for me when I came home from work. Very much looking forward to getting it airborne with a nice Laser 80 up front.

John H - I would be very interested in the build phots - they would be a great help

Best

Rob

Jon, the engine arrived today thanks. Now I can see how the Laser fits in the nose of the Hurricane, I reckon extending the nose an inch will be hardly noticeable on the Mk.II.

No worries. Its a nice fit and hopefully you can see how the tank will squeeze in once the mods are made to the former. On mine i ditched the single middle dowel and put to smaller ones in its place just outboard of the new fuel tank cutout.

This picture reveals all.

I collected mine yesterday, thanks to Richard for the coffee and chat...additional shopping list to follow!

Sorry I missed the lads, so send on my regards, not sure if their ASBO restrictions have been reduced after Sweeps lay preaching efforts.

Looking forward to the build once I have had a good rife through the box of bits...and cleared a bit of bench space!

I'll start working up the electrical spec if anyone's interested...(yes I know it should have a Laser in it to make it sound right), and I am sure one day I will move to the "dark side"

I'm trying a bit of "parallel building" (Tempest and Hurricane at the same time!). This probably means both will take twice as long to complete!
I've made a start on the fuselage and got the doublers glued on. I'm now looking at the central crutch, formers F2 and F3 and the sides. My F2 and F3 are 99.4mm wide, the crutch is 101.4mm wide. With the two doublers being 1.6mm each, total 3.2mm, I reckon F2 and F3 are too wide by 1.2mm. It looks like I'll need to shave 0.6mm off each side of F2 and F3. Or have I missed something?

Mike.

Shave off half a mm?

Your eyesight is netter than mine Mikesurprise

As long as the crutch sits in the step where the doubler tops dont quite meet the top of the fuselage sides , all will be well . Remember this is a 2003 kit .....

Just one heads up guys, on my kit (rescued from the depths of Richards secret stash a few years ago) I needed to put a 1/8 balsa 'shim' under the front decking for the canopy to line up correctly.

I suggest you check the line of the canopy and all the decks BEFORE you glue anything. It could be an issue that's been fixed, buy my old kit had it so check yours just to be sure

John, is there a build log on here of your Hurricane? As I seem to have inadvertently agreed to buy one of the 'spare' 3 Richard mentioned a few days ago it would be good to see what I'm letting myself into. I may even throw off the habits of the last few years and fit an oily 4 stroke; if so, a Laser 80 which seems to be the engine of choice. Not decided yet.

Geoff

Hi Geoff

I do have a build log but its mingled in with 4 others as we were doing a group build. Search for balsa bashing and you will find the thread
