Tony B beat me to the punch about the thank you button .I agree . It shows for instance if something has been learned from someone's posting Also can we not just click on any urls etc instead of chasing it in blue and opening a new tab etc.Other forums do it so it can't be that hard to do. Can it?

Not to suprising that the Admins aint keen..

All I really ask for is just a confirmation that someone has read the post and found it helpful, and is following. It's not that hard.

Likening it to FB and poularity contests is not at all helpful.

I agree Stevo. This should just be basic functionality on any type of forum. But nothing will change, I guess. And don't get me started on the antiquated process you have to go through to post a picture!

A like or thank you button would be very useful- especially on build blogs.

The problem with posting a thumbs up (as seen at the top of this thread) is that subscribers get a mail saying - Thumbs up - which can be rather infuriating as it adds no value.

I think what we are trying to get to is an acknowledgement that a post is helpful - useful for the author and provides encouragement to continue..

Martyn.

I'm tending to agree with the mods on this one. Surely the proof of the pudding is the viewing figure, which is prominently displayed and totally objective?

Objective no.
Its an 'indication' of anything thats visted the page, albeit forum users or bots.. search engines...

It gives you no idea of who is following the thread.

In principle, yes, but I can't believe for one minute that bots and search engines account for any significant proportion in reality. No idea? I would say it gives you a very good idea of how many people are following. What do you want, one part in a thousand precision?

Nope. Just a 'like' button...

thumbs down Sorry to disagree, I think this is a lot noise about nothing very important.

So far as I'm concerned this forum does what it's suppose to do.

What makes you say that? Being a Mod and not thinking a Like Button has any real value are not connected in my mind!

Indeed... nothing to do with being a Mod. Such a decision would not be up to the mod team nor would the mod team have to implement it so it really makes no difference to us either way.... I simply see no point in having one & nothing in the thread has come close to convincing me.....

If you have a Like button you will also need an Unlike button. To many Unlike posts will soon deter people from posting anything of value.

... humm... I like your idea of 'the contrary of the opposite', Tom.

Cheers
