704 forum posts 157 photos | Hi guys,
I've just put the finishing touches to my IC ARTF Wot 4 and I notice I have a bit left over! Its a rectangular bit of ply, maybe 1/8" thick, with two holes which match the wing bolt spacing.
It looks like it might have been intended to strengthen the TE of the wing where the bolts go through, but there is no mention of it in the manual.
Anybody seen this or got any advice? I'm tempted to epoxy it in place to prevent the bolts crushing the TE.

I'm not too familiar with the ARTF version of the Wottie but if the TE
area is just filmed balsa you should certainly add the ply plate to stop the
balsa being crushed by the wing bolts - there's quite a bit of stress in this
area.
Trim away the film so the plate slightly overlaps it & epoxy it on.
You can paint or film cover the plate if you wish.
Hope this helps.

I didn't have this plate on my wot 4 - I used 2 steel washers (think they were included) and epoxied them to the top of the TE after cutting some trim away. 100 flights and still ok with no crushing of the TE. If you are worried just follow Richards advice. |

31 forum posts | The seagull swift has the same plate. On this tho you simply slide the nylon bolts through and fix the wing. As I have no knowledge of the wotty I cant really comment on yours. just hope this helps a little. |

Thanks for the advice, I was 90% sure I should glue it in place to spread the load of the bolts and now you guys have convinced me. I cut away the wing covering and glued it in place last night.
So thats the Wot 4 finished, just need to check all the control movements, CoG and get out and maiden her!

I've just dug out the instruction manual, for reference this is the IC powered Ripmax Wot4. Control throws are as follows:
Elevator: 9-15mm up and down
Rudder: 45mm left and right
Ailerons: 6-9 up and down
HTH.
