| 871 forum posts 79 photos | Over the weekend I attended the Wings and Wheels at North Weald and it was a real treat. I take my hat off to the flyers who braved the winds to commit to flight. Ali Maschinsky's performance was superb as was the Pitts Python. No to business. I purchased a Fiesler Storch at the bring and buy sale as I have been after one for some time now. Having got it home for a closer inspection, I was very impressed with the quality. The cowl is in five parts and appears made from 20 gauge aluminium. Unfortunately, the servos are well and truly buried in the fuze and I have no idea how to get them out. Not that I need to do this immediately, but at some point no doubt one will need replacing. She has a wingspan of 92", working flaps but fixed slats, sprung u/c, has a separate servo for the tail wheel and a 9g servo at the tail for the rudder. I know the picture isn't one of my best efforts, but there is an access hatch just behind the cockpit which may help in identification. Does anyone know what this kit is or indeed who put it up for sale at W&W? Regards. |

I saw this model at the show and thought it looked very nice. Sorry I've no idea where it originates from though! Glad it's all nice quality, that's always a worry when buying second hand, there were some absolute shockers at the bring and buy

I think the wings were Correx if we're thinking of the same ones - with square ali tube fuselages? I've never seen so much twist in a wing! Luckily for the state of my marriage, my "silly" offer late in the afternoon for the unstarted/unboxed 1/4ish scale Pitts ARTF was rejected...
I took a chance on an ST Models DG-1000 with a blown ESC from the Ripmax clearout tent (marked "Duff" The motor looks (and smells) OK so I think I've got myself a brand new fully equipped airframe (wings/tail never removed from the packaging) just needing an ESC (which I have) for an eighth of the RRP...anyone interested in an ST 2.4 TX/RX combo? Talking of silly money - how about the Beechcraft twin for £850 (reduced from a Grand!) - very tidy but I wasn't that surprised it was still unsold when I left! | 871 forum posts 79 photos | Mate of mine who's into that sort of thing spotted a helicopter for £220. Apparently the engine alone was worth that. Yes I saw the Beechcraft and laughed at the price. Sorry I missed out on that Auster though. There was a decent ic powered glider there too with something like a 102" wingspan. Had the engine fired up on my Storch today despite a bit of a rocky start with her. The pipe work is a bit of a nightmare and the throttle servo needed replacement. The more I look, the more I see. Buying secondhand can be great fun specially as they seldom come with a manual so its a case of detective work.
Ho hum. Back to the shed. |

Mighty jealous of the big Storch.. That'd fit perficly in MY hanger....
I was stood in Martin Briggs Heli shop, years ago, when a poor chap was dragged in by his missus, carrying two Heli's.. One was a 12month old JR Voyager E with a BL setup and Lipo (back when only NASA had them) AND a fibre glass Bell230 fuse, also JR... He said he had to sell them, looking sadly at his wife, so I did... Buy the Bell230 that is.. Paid £350 for it, and the airframe and fuse were worth that.. The Twister 37 Motor was £160 at the time, plus a castle creations Esc, and a flightpower 3S2P 5000mAh Lipo...
I just added a Xtal..
Someone out there bought my big Topgun Cessna ( 62" ) at the Nats last year... I'd love to know if it's still flying.. ? A new thread me thinks....
Luv Chrisie.. xx |

Ho hum. Back to the shed. The Storch looked interesting - I gave it a second glance but managed not to be too tempted as I'm running out of storage space! Glad to hear it went to a good home... I enjoyed flying one for a clubmate a year or two ago, very stately and lands on a 2 1/2 P coin - plenty of lift - and drag - apparently the full size does fewer "miles to the gallon" than a Spitfire! 6395 forum posts 374 photos | I do not know how much you paid for the model, though I would say that the kit (if svenson) was expensive at my LMS, when new,. The other thing seemed to be that the kit was a very good one, from the point of view that the leading edge slots etc were machined to profile, so not as tricky for the builder to make a good model. |

| 3055 forum posts | the svenson one needs a bit of work or sooner or later, it will go wrong, the cabanes need tying together with 2x 3mm captive nuts, and a 3mm bar through at the leading and trailing edge of the cabane root, this will tie the cabane together, and stop it pulling apart if the wing struts flex, the struts are made of streamlined copper tube, and fatigue, and can break, i replaced mine with dural sheet, 6mm thick, cut out on the band saw, and covered them in soft balsa, and sanded to streamline section, you dont have to do these mods, but i had one have a hard landing, and one strut snapped, this let the wing pull the entire cabin side out, its a superb model, i would love another, as a matter of interest, i lent my front cowl to vortes vacform, they copied it, and can supply a molded front cowl, the slats and flaps work, it can be flown, and taken off very slowly, power in mine was an ancient magnum 91 open valve gear 4 stroke, |

| 871 forum posts 79 photos | I have spoken to the (very helpful) previous owner who has confirmed it is a Svenson Kit. I will be doing a bit of detective work now to track down the manual for CofG. Thanks Alan for a comprehensive reply. I hope to have her aloft next month some time and hopefully to post a video on You Tube. Regards.

| 3055 forum posts | 1/3rd of the chord, nose down, empty tank, set the ailerons up with 2/3rds up. 1/3rd down, steer her round wth rudder, and aileron, its a powerfull rudder, intiate the turn with aieron, then add rudder progressively, it might be a high winger, but a piper cub it aint!! you wont believe how slow this thing will fly, make sure the L.E. slats are both open the same, |
