731 forum posts 157 photos | Hiya, A couple of my airframes, particularly the wings have suffered hanger rash recently. One after a dumb cat thought it would be fun to scratch the wing covering. This has got me thinking about those posh wing bags you see on some of the more expensive ARTFs. Given the right material these strike me as something that could easily be knocked up at home. Question is what sort of material, anybody know of something suitable? The ones I've seen are like bubblewrap with tin foil under the surface - or at least thats what I thought they looked like! Any thoughts welcome pls! r.

2934 forum posts 116 photos | I've used the same for one set of wings, only I tried using duct tape around the edges with mixed results - it sticks, but not very well. I may just staple the duct tape in place! One roll is enough for a couple of wings and tails at the very least. |

I'm sorry, did you just say you have found something that duct tape cannot fix!? Ta guys, off to Homebase this afternoon, I'll get a roll and see how I get on.

373 forum posts 23 photos | There's another Homebase product that can be used for wing bags. Slightly cheaper but I needed two rolls for an F3J glider. Doesn't have air bubbles like the other product, sort of thin foam on the inside but the best bit is that the sides can be joined together just by heat sealing with a covering iron. Can take pictures if you like. GB |

I just use some bubble wrap taped together to form bags for a couple of my planes wings. Works ok for transporting them in the car. Bonus is I get it free from work Andy |

1114 forum posts 639 photos | Nice and cheap stuff guys, I used sun protection for camper vans in the past, as I didn't find the material in roll form. It is practically the same, and from one sun protection I could cut 2 bags for wings of a 50size plane. About tape: There is another, much better method. Use a sewing machine and a cotton woven tape. this gives a quite professional look to the edges of the bag and there is no danger of sticky tape glue at high temperatures (as in the car for instance - no high temperatures anywhere else this summer) Of course - you need a sewing machine. In any case a very handy tool, I have one even I live alone. But: My mother was a tailor. She sewed my new blue jeans. My grandfather was a sewing machine mechanic down in old Vienna.... ok, it doesn't rime, so I stop. VA |

731 forum posts 157 photos | Just thought I'd finish this off with a thank you for the tips. As I said earlier I've been to Wickes, well this evening I had a go and as you can see I've four nice bags from the 8m roll. From the left, Acro-Wot, Wot 4, Cambrian P51, Mini Tyro (couldnt forget the little guy now could I?) Problem sorted! |

1114 forum posts 639 photos | If it comes to photos - have a look at the "tailor" made version
The one with the red border is for the Angel 50, the other one is for the Sukhoi 29- 30 size. By the way they are only for one wing per bag. VA Edited By Vecchio Austriaco on 12/07/2012 22:15:59 |

731 forum posts 157 photos | Hah, very nice Vecchio, they put my efforts to shame. I like the flaps at the top. How did you manage to crease the material so it stays folded? Or did you put some sort of fastener on it? |

1114 forum posts 639 photos | I used some Velcro pads - sewn to the bag and to the flap In any case my version is rather time consuming.... VA
