Hi Alan, I know of a few reasons that the threads go under the ads. Whenever we see this, us mods try to correct whatever is wrong. (At times when we are getting fed up with it we tell the posters what they did wrong too, but I haven't seen a great deal of it lately)

Sometimes it only shows up in one type of browser so we can completely miss it.

Do you have some examples that we can look at?

Cheers
Chris

It's happened occasionally to me and its usually because somewhere in the thread someone has put a photo or video thats too big and all the edges of the attached text/picture/video slide under the ads. I have no idea how to get over the problem.

I use firefox and Safari on a MacBook Air and it does the same on both.

We're standing by Alan!

Chris is spot on, sometimes they are not visible on all browsers - so they look OK to us maybe but not to you. It happens these days mainly because of posting pictures or videos that are too large. If we see them we fix them! As Alan says the easiest thing is if you come across it report the thread giving the reason for the report and we'll try to fix it!

Thanks Alan, let us know when we miss one and we'll do our best to sort it out.

The problem can be caused by pasting a long Internet link, by adding a video bigger than about 450 wide, or by adding photos next to each other side by side. With photos it helps to press enter once or twice between pics to make sure they are separated.

There have been a few that only seem to affect Internet Explorer which we haven't been able to fix, but even these look OK if viewed by pressing the compatibility button in IE.

there may will be other causes too. Maybe we can spot a pattern between us all and help the techie guys come up with fixes so the above can be prevented from being issues?

Don't know what you did but the problem is gone. I didn't change anything - I cannot as it is the company lap-top ...

Surely the answer would be to lock up the photo inclusion subroutine so it wasn't so bugged that that could happen??

Just had a frustrating fifteen minutes trying to include a pic, ANY pic, of a plane. They display perfectly well in their original location, they are not too big, the size is apparantly locked, yet they distort hugely, locked or not locked, size specified or not. Don't have that problem with ANY other site I use.

Please let's not turn this thread into a discussion about how the site should be. As ordinary users there's nothing we can do about it. As a volunteer mod who has to tidy other people's post up regularly, believe me, we badger the techs about it often enough.

Dave there's a bizzarre answer to the squashed photo problem. When posting the pic (that isn't in a modelyflying.co.uk album) delete any numbers in the size boxes. Yep we know it's just not right but it works.

Oh and for anyone having trouble posting, please have a look at the tutorials. They are pretty easy to find under "all topics"

If using the later version of IE clicking on the "compatabilty view" button (just to the right of the address drop down...a sort of torn page icon) can work wonders too......

Or try a different browser....I'm quite liking Chrome at the moment.....wink 2

With Google Chrome I have been mostly fine, some threads can have the ads over the top, mainly ones with embedded videos. I can report the threads as well if it helps.
