I had one of those "Dumb and dumber - we landed on the moon" moments, as I was looking up Hanno Prettner and the TOC and discovered that the TOC finished in 2002!!! Doh!

Me and a friend had always dreamed of going to Vegas to watch them.

Just glad I got to see the man fly at Sandown.

Rich

I went once in the 1980's and it snowed several times while we were there.

Hanno Prettner flying was the one thing that stopped the shopping at Sandown

You are right about stopping the shopping. I remember seeing him fly on a couple of occasions at Sandown, I'd only seen the odd roll and loop at a club site before that, my jaw hit the deck.

Fond memories of Sandown too, my first glider - a SAS Ace - bought from Alan at the show.

There was one other thing that used to stop the flying temporarily, and that was the 10:30am flight of Concord to New Yorksmiley.

it invariably took off from Heathrow ( just a few miles away ), and would turn to fly directly above Sandown at a few thousand feet. Everything had to stop, as all stared skywards in wonderment.

such memories yes

they made it just too expensive, traders could not support it, and having flown there, it was HORRIBLE, YT had a few succeses though, we launched the new hurricane kit there, blew everyone away, i personaly took orders for 35 that very weekend, and 95%of them took the plane when they arrived,

killed by greed, typical, ruined a great show. it was such a successful weekend. it was huge. and it had something for all modellers, not just flyers, and not just rc.

what was horrible? the flying?

i bought a 25% Glens Models Extra from the show (still in the box!) and I remember he used to sell out..

hey ho, thats progress for you and profit hungry venues. i hope they've suffered for it. i still pass the venue regularly as my mum lives close by.

We have a second toilet/dunny/crapper outdoors joined to the back of the house this is my library and has flying magazines for the customers (customer being me) to read. now one afternoon i head into the library and a few magazines are on the ground, pages torn and crumpled, so I start yelling out loud to my little ones 4 and 6 "who did this?, these are dads magazines you know you are not to touch them, they are not for little kids to look at. as i stood up after picking them up I spotted the lady next door standing at the fence pruning her plants and she gave me a wave and a smile, i realised she heard what i said.

I can't help feeling she thinks i'm a sicko, because she didn't know the mags were flying ones.

Lol @ BBC!!face 20 You couldn't write better! Ever thought of joining the 'Flying Concordes'?

However,  I am gutted that Harriet Cass and Charlotte Green have announced their retirement from Radio 4.  The erosion of another of lifes little pleasures.sad
