Pick a plane 2008

and the winner is.......

Another Hawker aircraft is on the way!

Well first off, our thanks go to all RCM&E readers and modelflying.co.uk members who voted for their favourite aircraft over the last few months. It always proves fascinating to see what aircraft types turn our readers on so to speak, although clearly warbirds retain the strongest pull.

In some respects we did begin to wonder if a second round of voting made good sense, the danger being that readers would vote for something different just because they may have become fed up with the popular favourites that tended to dominate the first round.

We asked for a top three in round two and simply counted these votes equally in the final reckoning. The winner therefore is the

Hawker Hurricane closely followed by the
Westland Lysander, in turn followed closely by the
DH Mosquito and Westland Whirlwind.

The Hurricane it is then. Tony will be getting started on the design over the next few weeks and if all goes well, we aim to include the plan in our autumn Special issue that should be in the shops Sep/Oct time.

These things always throw up surprises, not least the Storch and Stuka, clearly flyers value character aircraft and who can blame them. Tony has admitted that the strong Whirlwind support has drawn his attention to the design so you never know, a Whirlwind may just be flying off his workbench at some future date. Final thanks must go To Barry W for his race commentary in the final stages, we're sorry the twin didn't make it but as I say, keep your eyes peeled Barry.
