Pick a plane 2008

The top 12!

We asked you to tell us what you'd like to see featured as a free plan in our forthcoming Special Issue so our thanks go to everyone who has kindly taken the time to make suggestions and cast their votes.

The range of subjects has been huge but the time has come to set a short-list of your top models ready for a final vote. We've spoken to designer Tony Nijhuis and in the process whittled down the hopefuls. The selection criteria used has been based on your votes coupled with scale subjects of a practical size sufficient to fit on plan sheets.

In no particular order the aircraft below were the top 12 from the huge number of subjects suggested.

  • Westland Whirlwind
  • Hawker Hurricane
  • Hawker Sea Fury
  • Douglas Skyraider
  • Fieseler Storch
  • Consolidated Catalina
  • DH Chipmunk
  • JU-87 Stuka
  • Westland Lysander
  • DH Mosquito
  • Bristol Beaufighter
  • ME-109

All you have to do now is to use the forum thread below to give us your top three from the above list. Will the Hurricane come out top? it's up to you.

We had a little prize to give away to the first name drawn from all those who left their suggestions and Chris Jordan was the name drawn so well done Chris, we'll send you a JP Mini Aviator to fly in the garden!

We've another Mini Aviator to hand out so use the forum thread below to cast your vote, the winning aircraft will get the Nijhuis treatment! We'll close the voting at the end of March to give Tony time to get cracking.

Ok, tell us what you'd like to see, will the Hurricane keep its nose in front or will that man Barry W persuade everyone that the Whirlwind is the plane for Tony?

Every entry here will go in the hat to win a JP Mini Aviator so what are you waiting for!
