  1. Hello out there, Totally convinced that the canopy fillet Sauce was fully dry now, here is the result I got so far. New masking tape applied & ready now for a coat of primer, weather permitting of course. Started the sanding of the wing as well. ? Why do I have the feeling that I'm really starting to hate sanding stuff now? ... ? Hakuna matata Chris BRU - BE / CTR Sanding 2 Much Control

  2. Ron, If you have a system that works for you that is fine. I have a separate model memory for such models which gives me proportional throttle control for some testing such as initial direction and ESC setup checks. I could have a throttle function on the "flying memory", but I don't to avoid risk of accidental selection in the heat of competitions. With 5kW+ on tap even part throttle is a risk. I must admit mine is an unusual setup, but with a current in the region of 180 to 200 amps via a 135A ESC I am not keen on running part throttle for any length of time (i.e. more than a couple of seconds) and even full throttle is never more than about 3 seconds static. My motor is controlled by a spring-loaded switch. Fail-safe checks are only done using the throttle-less "flying memory" as that is the relevant condition, and if I can't do a power on range test at full power then I don't see the point of it as it doesn't represent flying conditions. A quick blip of full power while logging the telemetry will tell me if there is a problem. Dick

  3. According to The Irish Times, there is now only one surviving pilot from the Battle of Britain, an Irishman, John Hemingway, who lives in a retirement home in Dublin County. In the summer of 1940, he flew the Hawker Hurricane. https://www.irishtimes.com/news/irel...-few-1.4249763

  4. But so that there is no misunderstanding, this is what it will be based on: Nice blues and greens.

  5. Very nice Ron. I enjoyed building this model, been sold a while now. I stood in my workshop for 11 days straight last week and the week before, and I have back pain, Cycling to work this week has sorted it out tho. LOL D.D.

  6. Looking good Ron , at roughly the same stage with mine, only covering with the brown paper method & dope. Intended finish will be the desert scheme, powered by i/c , 2x rcv 58 cd 's .? Cheers Graham ( Cornwall)

  7. Having now completed the Leprechaun XL and had several flights with the new Laser 200 in-line twin, I decided to go back to the BF110 which, once again, had been gathering dust. No sooner had I started then I was struck by a back problem, the wife says that it was due to too many hours standing in the workshop and too many hours standing up at the flying field, she may have a point. Anyway I have eventually made some progress, the wings are now ready for top coat as is the tailplane assembly (note that I will leave the undercoat as it is so that, hopefully, the topcoat will be uneven!!). Typically I had incorrectly 3D printed 2 of the exhaust stacks so that is being rectified as I type. I've decided on a different colour scheme so the paint for that are on their way, should arrive Friday, so that gives me enough time to cover the fuse (lam film, of course), undercoat it and apply the panel lines. With luck I should be applying finishing coats over the weekend.

  8. Here's a simple restrainer design which can be adapted for different size models. A tent peg through the frame anchors it to the ground as shown.

  9. Did a very short run of the engine this afternoon and all appears well so will do some extended running in of the new bearings tomorrow.

  10. Ron With some of my models:- If I take the prop off and run the motor it would exceed the safe operating rpm of the (expensive) motor and gearbox. When I take the prop off to check motor fail-safe I run it on a much lower voltage battery to keep the rpm down to acceptable levels. If I did that to do a "power on" range test it would be meaningless because I would be running in a totally different way to normal operating conditions. Variations in model characteristics means you have to adapt range and fails-safe testing to suit - there is no "one size fits all". Dick

  11. My gut feeling is that catering for touch-screen transmitters is a good time for a fork regardless of the politics. There will be much to alter and probably much to go wrong in the short term. Maybe once touch-screen is fully working, OpenTX and EdgeTX can be merged again (rather like CleanFlight and BetaFlight did). Me and my Horus will be sticking with OpenTX for now anyway. Hopefully EdgeTX will open the full potential of RadioMaster etc and set the benchmark for modern transmitters.

  13. Ron has it spot on. How many ex aero modelers had their morale broken by old kits. I remember with astonishment buying a kit from Apache Aviation. About 2000 at Much Markle. Nice wood, carefully selected, lighter grades for the backend, good fittings, clear instructions, almost anal in making sure there were no misunderstanding, parts fitted. Result flew. It is to my shame I ever bought an ARTF. The latter day kit makers deserves better from us, just as the early kit makers are in a special pit, consigned to make their kits for eternity.

  14. I would also go as far as saying that the general quality of most kits, back in the day, were well below that we’ve come to expect now. So the poor quality ones we now look back on and think that they were good is only because there were a lot of rubbish ones too.

  15. Hi Martin, all looking good, following with interest but have to say I'm not a fan of the small highlighted text. Difficult to read on a small device, maybe it's just me though.

  17. Paul, I have just dug out my Cat25 plan from Radio Modeller, May 94. There is a lot to be said for these simple, quick-build, sport models. It fits in the car in one piece (only 44in span) and looks pretty tough. Even a 'cooking 25' would have made it a good 'bicycle clip' type model, I guess. I wonder if I could build one in a couple of days?!

  22. My latest Guillows RC conversion, the Zero, to complement my SBD3. No painting involved this time, just tissue paper (including the canopy and cowl) and printed on tissue paper for the roundels and tail marking. The flaps and gear outline are printed on clear sticker paper, but should have done it on tissue. Lesson for next time.

  23. i did intend on repairing my "Domino" for the dark nights fix-up but this took longer than expected. Carl Goldberg vintage "SAILPLANE". 78" span. Still a couple of jobs to do but hoping to maiden in the next couple of weeks.

  24. Andy did you put fibreglass cloth impregnated with PVA on the centre of the wing as suggested by TN? I don't see the advantage as the wing isn't joined down the middle, like the hunter or hawk.
