  1. Looking good Gary. I'll be watching with interest and see how you get on with flying the model. I took on the challenge of my pal's HMM F-15 at our club swapmeet yesterday, as he needed the space -it certainly builds into an imposing model, finished in a USAF bi-centennial scheme, but he hadn't had much success with it off the slope.

  2. Whilst there has been a lull in flying gI thought I'd pull my finger out and get the zorst stacks sorted: The stubs are hollow so should help with the cooling.

  4. Not that is very significant to the story but the 'no UC' Ballerina suffered a bit of a mishap. About 2 seconds after a perfect maiden hand launch everything went dead, no motor, no control. It was climbing at the time so it stalled and dived at about 40 degrees straight into the ground. Just to annoy although all the electrics had been dislodged everything still worked but the rx LED was flashing indicating it had suffered a loss of signal Apart from the removal of the retracts nothing else had changed except I had bound the receiver to a HK TX6i Tx rather than the Spektrum DX6i that had been used on the previous flights. This raises a question as to whether the HK version of DSMX is as 'robust' as the Spektrum version. Anyway with no flying due to the strong easterly wind took the opportunity to do a complete nose rebuild, this time using 5mm XPS rather than 3mm Depron so it now looks like this with a new prop. Just the battery hatch still to do. The suspect rx has been replaced by a Lemon 6 ch with diversity antenna. Just in case I will also set the elevator failsafe position to be just a touch up. ?

  5. Maybe ? It has been pointed out to me that my desire to take off and land up the strip cross wind is making life harder for myself. It's not hard but takes practice to get it right. I find the insistence of others to take off and land into wind, which requires walking out onto the far side of the strip to place the model and walk back to the flight line to take off; even worse take off standing behind the model and then walk back, very inconvenient when others are in the air with time to land timers going off. Not that what others do bothers me I just find cross winds more fun and I like a challenge. Back to the build at the moment I am working on the control runs. Steve

  6. I built the Boulton Paul Defiant (Chris Gold plan ) but not flown it yet . The model is electric powered with 6s lipos and retracts and flaps. Has anyone built this model and flown it yet

  9. You have inspired me and so I just ordered the plan and the wood pack from Sarik Hobbies. I've had a few "Stick" type models and this looks like great fun. Wish me luck! Keith B

  11. Cheers, I'm waiting for warmer and less windy weather so I can spray it in the garden. It might need a little more filling and sanding at the join lines but not much. I'm trying to get away with not cutting the wing gloves at the forward hatch line. I had two left hand gloves in the kit which caused some despair but I found and contacted Howard and he had a spare one that he cut out from the vacform sheet and sent to me, bless. He's enjoying building and flying Rapier powered models. Your canopy looks a good fit, mine seems to be too thick and I will have to pare it back to fit in the recess. This will be third in the queue to test fly behind a Multiplex Akro and Twist that I finished over a year ago. I'm currently working on getting my T140 Bonneville back on the road, just having a little break from sanding the Fw 190!

  12. This happens at a greater rate with increased temperature and state of charge. The higher the state of charge i.e. the higher the voltage, the faster side-reactions take place between the chemicals in the cell that degrade its performance. Chemical reactions run twice as fast with each 10°C rise in temperature. The best possible storage conditions are a low state of charge and as cool as possible but not frozen.

Pos League Rank Team Manager Pts 1 1 1 Essex Racing Tony Clark 556 2 2 1 Igoronic racing iqon 552 3 3 2 GASTON Formula Chris McG 520 4 4 4 Oyster f1 Glenn Philbrick 493 5 5 5 Hans Brake Zoonie 492 6 6 2 Revers Racing Pete B 488 7 7 4 Pitts Specials john stones 482 8 8 3 teewrex John Tee 480 9 9 3 PSS Power Flyer 465 10 10 4 LetsGoTotoLetsGo GrumpyGnome 461 11 11 4 Torque of the devil Stu 455 12 12 3 The JP Specials johnpflyrc 452 13 13 1 Team Charles Picd Charles Pic 422 14 14 1 Norfolk Flyers Kevin Fairgrieve 417 15 15 0 DMFC Racing Team Simon Webb 406 So, we have changes at the top of the table! Tony and Iqon each move up one position to first and second respectively. They displace Chris 2 places down to third. Glenn and Zoonie are also moving upwards - a 4-place gain for Glenn and a 5-place gain for Zoonie, taking them to 4th and 5th. That means that Pete slips 2 places to 6th. John S has a 4-place gain today, up to 7th, whilst John T is moving 3 places downwards to 8th. Ade's second place today moves him up 3 places to 9th, whilst GrumpyGnome, Stu and myself are all moving downwards, 4places, 4 places and 3 places respectively, now occupying positions 10 to 12. Charles and Kev swap places today, with Charles up to 13th and Kev down to 14th. Simon is our only non-mover in the table today, but at least his 4th place today narrows the gap somewhat, with 14th only 11 points ahead and 13th just 16 points away. Next up is Miami in 2 weeks time. And of course that will be in the evening for us in the UK and Europe. Don't forget your predictions!

  20. The turret doing its thing. It has to whizz about like a demented Dalek or you cannot see it in flight!

  21. Yes, I built it from the Sarik short kit, been flying it for a year, it flies very very well! Mine was featured in the January RCM&E. I use 6S 5000 through a Ripmax Quantum 61, I fly until 70% capacity (3500mAh) is used and am getting 10-12 minutes of flying, mostly very low long passes at which it excels due to very good stability. I made a working turret which uses 4 channels and is controlled by transmitter sequencers. I just switch it on or off. The fuselage fairing drops out of the way, the turret rotates back and forth nearly 180 degrees, the guns go up and down, and the muzzles flash. That and the tail heavy design or wood meant a lot of lead up front and it comes to a whopping 13lbs. Yet it gets airborne off grass by the time I get to 3/4 throttle, and it lands quite gently. Full flap is like running into a brick wall so be ready with more power and nose down. Lovely flying model, I haven't a bad word to say about its handling.

  22. Very careful with the wood behind the c.g. I also put a bit more curve onto the formers with strips of 1/8 balsa and shaping to take the flat look off the sides of the fuselage, but other than that built it as per plan.

  23. Just like to say that the model looks really great and is a nice change from the usual suspects! One of my favourite WW2 subjects, have you seen the full size nightfighter version at the RAF Museum at Hendon? It's a huge thing and it's a wonder that it performed as well as it did on the early Merlin engine. Having a break from balsa bashing at the moment and I've just started an Airfix 1/72 Defiant - plan to do the nightfighter colour.......black! As for your model, I understand the advantages of electric and can see why many would want to go that route ( I see the plan was designed around electric, so fair enough) but a pity a nice Laser isn't up front - pays your money etc. What retracts did you use and what is its all up weight? Have you taken any wattage readings? I have a couple of 6 cell leccy aerobats and find duration is around the 6-8 minute mark depending on how crazy I'm feeling or 10 minutes just cruising - any idea what you're expecting from your setup when flown in a scale like manner? Well done, look forward to seeing some flying vids.?

  25. Maiden flight was today . Winds were light and from the NW but I was keen to give the plane a go as the field was very quiet giving me time to concentrate on checks etc. Well I’m pleased I did . The plane taxied well and took off beautifully with more than ample power from the laser 180 . It was very very smooth in the air despite some gusts. Later in the flight I did some rolls and a nice big loop which it handles just like an Acrowot XL. This plane can also fly slowly and seems to have little or no tendency to stall. At very low speeds it lets you know it’s unhappy by a slight wing wobble but a bit of power soon corrects it . With the slight crosswind I had a few passes while dialling in my approach. I found using the flaps helped a lot and it made a very smooth landing. The big Dubro air wheels and significant weight meant it rolled down the runway a long way but it has no tendency to nose over 😊😊😊 . I’m very happy! Edited By Tim Flyer on 16/05/2020 20:12:40
