  1. I think it would be nice to see a few PSS free plan articles seeing as you are covering it more now in the mag. which is good as it is something i have not done but am very interested in giving a go. i have done slope soaring with a middle phase 2 and really like it. if there was a plan of a 109 or something like that, i would be really tempted to give it a whirl. really enjoying the variety of articles in the mag keep up the good work. p.s i often thought if it were possible to film the maidens/flites after ironed out wrinckles of the plan built models for us to watch on this site would be a great bonus to the description given in the article, just an idea
  2. I'll try anything just so long it'll fly!
  3. Ah right'o i'll give it a go, thanks
  4. ah well that could be where I went wrong you know, I had it all square and plum - Doh! i'll have a go at that 2-3 degrees down and right thrust on mark II. good luck with yours Radge If i knew how to put photos on here i would show the before and after shots if anyone's interested, just not sure how
  5. Well it flew! I was watching it rise up off the ground, I was happy to see that it actually took off! Then at about 6' it pitched up and rolled inverted then nosed into the ground, just like that, it all happened so quick. I checked it over and saw that from the nose to just past the wing was smashed, the wing was ok and the rest was fine but the motor shaft was bent. Ho hum back to the drawing board. I don't know but I think maybe the fin and rudder need to be bigger?? I know the C of G was right oh well I bet the Wright Brothers didn't get it bang on first time ay?! ( well it makes me feel better saying that anyway) Just thought I'd give you all an update. On the upside I guess this gives me a chance to improve some or the design that I wasn't so happy with e.g battery access
  6. Don't know about the Speedo but i have a Middle Phase II Advanced ( the one with ailerons) and i would recomend it 100%. I've had mine for years and its taken all that i could throw at it, it's what i learnt to slope with. in my opinion having a rudder is better than not, as when i moved on to a sas blob, which was another good'n, i couldn't put my finger on it at first but something was missing, i worked it out in the end and yep you guessed it, it was the rudder. if you look real close at my posting photo you'll see my middle phase doing knife edge, cant say i could do it so well without a rudder! then some people would say i can't with either
  7. i know you have covered this topic before but i for one am still non the wiser about understanding electrics. maybe you could do a step by step guide with photos too on how to set up different power systems and then explain how to understand the info that you get from a watt meter. as im real thick i would like a guide on how to use the watt meter in the fist place. give me wood and im fine, i can see it, feel it and therefore understand what i can do with it, but electrics? well its another world to me!
  8. Hi all, Just thought i would throw this into the forum fire. I saw an advert in RCM&E and wondered how it would affect the park flying scene. It was a heli with FPV built in, a little screen on the TX so you could see what the heli could see, at first i was impressed with what models are able to do straight from the box and i looked on the web for it. As it turns out there are 2 heli's and a small glider for sale, i thought cor thats good, a glider, as i have not ventured into heli's yet, that would be fun! Then i thought of people flying without actually looking at the model as it would be very tempting to do, not good! What do you think? 1 we dont want to get bad names especially in parks and public places 2 we dont want any accident with people or property 3 dont want to lose our flying spots as its all too easy to do am i worrying too much? Lets hope if people read the instructions with these models that it has all the info they need to know about this worry ay
  9. Ooo, I wouldn't say no. put me in the hat too
  10. Thats good then thanks, I think I'll give that set up a try then as it all sounds to be in the area of what has been advised, fingers crossed ay! Now that the clocks have sprung forward I cant wait to give it an airing in the evenings. If I can work out how to put a picture on here, I'll show all what my plane looks like as a first attempt at balsa bashing If anyones interested and I'll let you know how it goes on the flying bit too ( If it finally does that is )
  11. I've just been looking on the BRC Hobbies website and they have a combo motor set that i think might be right for my model its an emax cf2812 1500kv brushless outrunner with a 20A ESC, there is a 2s 7.4v 1300Mah lipo too, rated at 20c that i think will be ok, I might have to do some mods to make it all fit in the model though, does this all sound ok?? Also i was wondering if Im using a lipo for the juice now how does that affect the RX, would it all work fine. The ESC has a BEC i think, or would i need some sort of regulator for it as the volts are different to the NiMh cells that im used to?
  12. Thanks for all the help guys, sounds like I've messed up in the design stage of my little project as it was meant to be a little light plane that i could sneak off to the field in the summer evenings, a little plane for flying in a small place. didnt think it would have to fly fast to stay up and i could poodle about the sky forgetting about the days work just gone, instead i've made something that sounds like the only way to make it fly is to go the speed of sound! blimey how wrong could i have been? oh well i'll try as suggested and up grade all its gubbin's and fingers crossed ay. As for the poodle about model, back to the drawing board. I suppose thats all part of the fun of it, shame i dont understand all this electrickery stuff though as it would make my best guesses a bit more in the ball park, ho hum
  13. oh, that'll explain why it wont work how i hoped. so the only way to get it to fly is to start again with the whole power set up then, i guess i'll have to take your good advice and try an all new brushless/ lipo system. i feel like i'm biting off more than i can chew in this area. i thought building the model would be the difficult bit as you are going by your own design but i think i was wrong, the electrics bit is,to me anyway, by far the most difficult bit of the lot ! I guess if i buy what you have advised it'll be ok, question is what on earth could i use the existing set up for? sounds to me that it would just about power a paper aeroplane, even then i'm not so sure! would be nice to be able to use it on something though, shame to waste it. Thanks for the help and anymore ideas are welcome, now where's that tissue paper
  14. Hi all, sorry i couldnt reply sooner, must admit I am pleasantly surprised at how many want to help, well here goes with what i know (i'll accept the laughs as i'm sure this will create a few!). My wing is a constant chord and i drew it by eye to the shape off a clarke y section the prop is a JP Slowfly Prop 9x7 (9070) and the motor is a GWS A, brushed, which was matched to it on the chart on the back of the packet, the Nicd is 8.4v ( 1.2v 150mAh for each cell, 7 cells in total) Like I say I'll expect it'll take longer for the replies as people will need to get off the floor nursing their ribs from laughing. I know that lipo's would make life easier but as i struggle to get to grips with the basics of all thing sparky, i didnt want to go down that rought just yet
