  1. Google “covering iron sock” and you’ll get loads of options
  2. I was surprised that these were RN Merlins. We get a lot of RAF and USAF stuff up the valley, but Navy stuff is unusual. Just found out that it was for the funeral a few villages away of a local 20 year old who was in the RN stationed at Yeovilton and was killed in a car crash down there in November
  3. This pair seem to have been circulating round the local South Shropshire/East Powys valleys this morning. I didn’t get to the camera fast enough for their first pass which was MUCH lower, barely above rooftop height, but managed to catch them on their second pass.
  4. Well, I ordered an Auto G2 V2 autogyro from HK UK at the weekend, free postage, and it arrived via DPD at 6pm tonight. All good.
  5. Auto level has transformed my EDF hand launches. As a right-handed mode 2 flyer it removes the panicky scrabble to get my hand back on the tx as it just climbs out straight and level. Switch it out as soon as I’m comfortably holding the tx again.
  6. The sedative helped greatly with the gag reflex thing, but the 'up the nose version' takes the problem away. No gag reflex at all, just a sort of lump in the throat feeling.
  7. I've had 3. The first two were as described above (strongly recommend having the sedative when offered) but the third earlier this year was a surprise. I arrived knowing what to expect but was then told that they don't do sedatives any more as the new camera is so thin they feed it up your nose and then down your throat. Initially a bit (a lot) concerned I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too uncomfortable. You sit upright and can see everything (if you wish) on the big screen. A bit of manoeuvring to find which nostril is easiest through the forest of nose hair, then a tickle at the back of your throat, big swallow and it's in. They pump air in to inflate your stomach so they can see better so there's a bit of burping, but it's fascinating to see the inside of your stomach. The camera is so manoeuvrable that it can turn back 180 deg to see the sphincter where it enters. Nothing to worry about with either type - a bit of discomfort but not painful.
  8. It's also interesting that when the various advocates of 20 limits quote number of deaths and injuries in 30 limit areas they don't seem to be broken down by how fast the vehicle was actually travelling (they probably don't really know). I suspect that many were travelling over 30, and the same people will travel at over 20 too. I'm in a rural area just on the English side of the Welsh border. There are lots of villages with 30 limits connected by A and B roads with 60 limits. The standard practice of many locals here seems to be to just drive everywhere at 40-45 whether on the open road or through a village. The villages are quiet so they get away with it. I bet they would do the same if the limit was 20 unless they knew there were cameras or speed humps.
  9. AutoGyro of Germany have sold fully approved gyro planes for a few years now. I used to work for Rotorsport UK who are their UK agents and handled most of this certification work for them.
  10. The same way the tx talks to receivers. That’s why you bind them. Each tx also has an rx. No internet or Bluetooth involved.
  11. Had the VQ Dauntless. Horrible sticky backed plastic, flimsy cowl. Big struggle to get the flaps/dive brakes operating correctly. Included electric retracts either bent or pulled out on the greasiest of landings. Flew fairly well. Currently have an ME 108. Even flimsier cowling cracked from nose over (very difficult to taxi and take off as wheels too far back. Mechanical retracts with cheesium wire legs. Even more flimsy vac formed wingtips crack if you look at them. Flies beautifully when you get it in the air. Biggest problem given the flimsiness of mouldings is that there are no spares available. The distributor doesn’t stock any spares and can’t/won’t source them. “There’s not enough call for them” they said. Must just be me then.
  12. It came over our house, just off bottom right of your picture at about 200ft.
  13. Yep, same here. Sky broadband/iPad/Safari in midlands.
  14. Yep - I’ve an upside down 150 and a 180 on its side, both fine. Tank position is key, top of tank level with centre of carb as recommended, all good.
  15. OK so I was whining, and I wasn’t going to go, but I had sold some stuff through the BMFA site to be collected at the show. Glad the rest of you enjoyed it, I won’t be going again.
  16. Went to Weston Park today. I’ve been every time for years as it’s my “local” show, only 50 miles up the road. What a disappointment. I was going to buy a pre-booked ticket for £18, but this turned into £19.90 by the time the various booking and admin fees were added, then they wanted my name, address, email, phone number, etc. so I bailed out, preferring to pay ananymously on the gate. Arrived at 9am, four lanes to pay, 3 staff members, of course I picked the lane with no one on it and behind someone who wanted to pay by card which they couldn’t handle. After he’d gone, I was ignored. I should have just driven in, don’t think they would have noticed as it as chaotic, but I’m too honest. After shouting “Who can take my money” out of the window for a few minutes someone came over. “A bit of a mess” I said and they said that several expected staff had not turned up. I suggested that they only opened enough lanes for the staff they had. Once in and parked I was totally underwhelmed by the stands - more sweet/sunglasses/toys/charity stalls than modelling gear. Many of the modelling stands were very expensive jets or giant aerobatic stuff, hardly any average club flyer stuff. The display line was also disappointing. Half the models have been there in previous years and the volume of models seemed about half that of previous shows. Very poor value for £23.
  17. When I worked at Spanhoe airfield the boss had one of these. Always entertaining calling airfields with “Focke Wolf 149 inbound”. Usually got a pause then “Er - say again?”
  18. As others have said, a smear of 5 minute epoxy will do the trick. Separates easily when you need to.
  19. We’re the same Mark, but I never seem to have camera or phone to hand when they appear.
  20. Yep - a Rickman Ranger, two Westfields and a Cobra replica.
  21. Lighter fluid is the thing for separating POR joints, even old, long set ones. Just brush along the joint and the POR softens. Might be worth a try on your other stuff.
