  1. Not much to report I'm afraid. I had emergency surgery 6 weeks ago, and with my better half going back to uni i have had to take on more of the house/child related tasks so she can study. I have a major DIY task to do in a few weeks, which requires me to clear the shed a bit (lot) to give drying room, so the result may be a workable space to do some modelling in! Hopefully more updates by the end of November.......

  5. Cutting matts, ?2.99 for an A3 one or 2 A4 ones, great for cutting templates etc on. If I wasn't crocked I'd go get some.

  7. Would love to but going to have to withdraw now. I had emergency surgery this week and will still be recovering in October including daily dressing changes. 3-4 months to recover. Might be able to do some work on the tb3 while off, but doubt it....
  8. I have managed to selotape copy and cut a couple of outlines now. I am going to do the first foam cut tomorrow pm, hopefully. Need to see what I have in stock foam wise though, the centre section is over 60mm thick so need some thick foam. If not I might have to pick some up...
  9. Posted by Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 29/08/2017 19:52:43: Hi Peter, This is true. But, as always, the devil is in the detail. While it is quite true that EASA have indicated that model flying associations will be granted some exemptions from the new regulations, they have not (as far as I can see) indicated what those exemption might be and how far they might extend. So, we are not out of the woods yet. BEB I have snipped your excellent post for ease BEB. The only part i have an issue is the limitation to 'flying in a club environment.' I am no longer a member of a club - I don't fly enough to make club membership worthwhile, and do most of my flying with the PSSA crowd these days. Would this type of flying be classed as a 'club' even though there is no formal membership methodology, but BMFA insurance is required.... This is the sort of hole that causes people who have experience of government making useless laws that only limit the law abiding feel very nervous about the first steps down the road....
  10. I'm back! I'm planning to do some foam cutting this week if i can get the time! I have just checked and don't appear to have a complete wing plan sheet which I haven't cut at least some wing ribs out of. The problem is i appear to have taken ribs 1-6 from all of them (this is the only constant section) This plan is was published by Traplet, so getting another copy may be tricky. I have managed to find a traced copy of it, but need to make some photocopies I think. I have just realised that in typing this out I have stumbled across a solution - the fuselage drawing side view has the wing shown for the purposes of fitment - this gives me the cutting template i will need! Right, time to photocopy that part of the plan...
  11. A great day on the Saturday when i was there, even though my only aircraft was too light for the conditions. Sorry i didn't make Sunday, but Family stuff took over.
  12. Aileron covering was appalling. Can't remove, no te stock and no hinges. Not going to be ready.
  13. OK, how it was left after being diverted by SWMBO last night: Wings have had 2 PolC Coats, Ailerons are covered and have first coat of Poly C. I'm not sure how there will look once they have dried and may redo. Already got clearance for shed time this evening so with luck and a following wind I might get the wings ready for paint, including ailerons and the Fuse ready for first coat of Poly C. Tomorrow will be the crucible - I've had to order additional Poly C, as I'm not syure i have enough, and got some other bits too. Also need to find my hinges....
  14. Progress update: Stripping completed and sanding sealer has now been applied to all of the air-frame parts, and has just finished drying on the last of them. The wings have a full layer of glass cloth and poly-C which I am just allowing to dry, I will be going out to do second coat of Poly-C in just a minute. The fuselage and control surfaces are likely to not get poly-c'd today so that might be a job for tomorrow evening, leaving me Friday to paint.
  15. Sanding first as well Andy... Infact how long the fuselage takes to sand will dictate how much i get done tomorrow - I think the wings will bew quite quick, as there isn't much colout left - the centre section needs the work more than the rest. If I can get this done quick I can buy some time back, and then I can use the compressor to 'blow' off the dust and then tac rag before I start the glassing. I have a plan which measn the drying time will not be dead - I'll be using the time as best I can. I'm going to give it ago - no promises mind! I'm off tomorrow, in work thursday and off friday - If i can get the full a/c glassed tomorrow I'll be very happy.... I also need to think about wing fixing - not sure if I want to go for wing bolts instead of the current wing bands - I do like wing bands for the slope, but need to dig some out! 16. Well, that has been partially resolved - i have the package. We have 3 sheds and a small cupborad at the front of the house. 1 shed is locked, the others are not (bin stores). Do you, as a courier driver with a parcel: a) place it in an unlocked shed or cupboard? b) force the locked sheds lifting lid up, distorting the plastic frame and disengaging the locking mechanism by damaging the plastic into which the lock catch fits, perminantly damaging the shed in the process. Then drop the package onto the floor. I didn't even look in the locked one. I didn't expect that level of foolishness.... Still covering can commence tomorrow while the courier sorts my replacement shed. Not looking forward to those several hours of work.
  17. Posted by onetenor on 15/08/2017 02:10:28: Have you got onto thr couriers to chase it up. Get the driver to show where he left it.. He may have hidden it somdwhere Yep, used the live chat and eventually spoke to a human this morning - apparently they will send the driver back to make sure he left it at the right house. How that will help as I'm at work I do not know. nor did they take any information to allow them to contact me with an update. He has stated in the shed, but as he has a choice of 3 and it is in none of them.... Looks like I'm sending the misses out shopping today.
  18. Hi BEB, I've used poly C with cloth, and the airbrush and acrylics too! Problem is that the cloth was in the package that has gone missing. My local model shop a) doesn't have any in, b) is currently closed as the owner has had some health issues, so can't stock up there. I'm currently looking for a paddle to help in this particular creek! I'll have to see what i can source locally - has anyone used fibreglass tissue? I might even try sanding sealer and then plain Poly C followed by paint if i need to...
  19. Posted by kc on 14/08/2017 19:27:33: " left in shed" might mean left in the rubbish bin or something equally daft or just thrown over the side gate. Quicker to check everywhere possible and ask the neighbour. Brown paper stuck with dilute PVA dries overnight. The correct brown paper is the slightly glossy one side thin stuff. Tissue stuck with wallpaper paste also works on veneer covered foam wings and probably balsa too. Edited By kc on 14/08/2017 19:29:50 We have 2 bin sheds and a small cupboard out front. He made it to the front door to leave a note. I have an opinion on what has happened, but won't comment until UK Mail give me an update. Also going to ring RC Worlds and see what they can do.
  20. Posted by Stephen Jones on 14/08/2017 19:45:25: Hi Olly, everyone i talk to says you must seal the wood 1st . Humm maybe they slap it on which would get the wood wet and cause it to warp. How ever i have used Poly C with great results on small delicate models and large models . So yes Poly C will do. Steve Cheers Steve, Was this laminate or framework? was there much shrinkage?
  21. Hello All, I'm after some advice - I am in the process of recovering my F-86 Sabre (separate thread on the go), and the courier supposedly delivered the parcel with sanding sealer and lightweight fibreglass cloth today 'left in shed.' The parcel is not there. I currently have Wednesday and Friday booked off to try and get everything ready for the PSSA meeting this weekend (mostly the F-86 to be fair). Most of the local model shops are shut wednesday, or don't open until 11, which is a bit late as I'd hoped to have the Poly C onto coat 3 by then. Sanding sealer I can get from B&Q, just round the corner. I have seen that other people have used brown paper with some good effect, can this be used on sheeted fuselages or balsa laminated foam wings? Will PolyC work on brown paper instead of PVA? just thinking about drying times...
  22. Right, ordered stuff on Saturday, delivery notification saying it would be delivered this morning. Note left - left in shed. Not there. This was the sanding sealer and lightweight glass cloth for the model. Wednesday is now under threat, but I can't do Thursday off work as I need to be in... Anyone know where i can collect Lightweight Fibreglass cloth (approx 3m^sq) near Stockport after 4:30pm tomorrow?
  23. Posted by Andy Meade on 14/08/2017 10:51:22: Is this the silver / red / yellow scheme that it's being painted in now then? Spanish F86? Darn, that makes the running game dull
  24. Back at work on the Monday I'm afraid, travel home Sunday PM/Evening. Mental note - ensure plate/cutlery packed for BBQ.
