  1. Some good and valid points raised... Let's look forward to the coming year and hopefully fewer controversial decisions having race (or championship) changing effects! As for our league, we're always happy to have new entrants from the forum join us - that's what the league is there for! Have a great Christmas everyone!
  2. Thanks for your kind words everyone... It's a pleasure running this for you guys, it certainly adds an extra dimension to the racing! And Simon, well done for your last place - Kev and I did our best (worst?) to try to stop you getting it. But I always reckoned there's a very fine dividing line between genius and madness! As for the result, well one of the two was always going to be disappointed. It's just a shame it was 'decided' in such an artificial manner. But looking back over the season there were several times that luck went one way or the other. If one driver had been so much better than the other then they wouldn't have been level on points at the start of the race. I doubt we've heard the end of this, even though Mercedes' initial protest has been rejected. Let's look forward to 2022!
  3. Well yes... What a sad way to end the championship race - decided by the tactics of the safety car! I'm afraid as Max crossed the finishing line, aided and abbetted by the safety car, I turned the telly off and went out for a long bicycle ride! 60 kms later I'm now back, and it looks like protests are underway - surprise surprise. I guess if Lewis had won then Red Bull would be protesting the first lap incident. Ho hum! Anyway... no Channel 4 folks to wait for today, so lets have a look at the scores - at least as they stand right now! Our season's winner is John Stones Second place goes to Chris McG Third place goes to Tony Clark. A big "well done" to our season's top three! The only place change today was John T grabbing 6th from Glenn. So - 2022 kicks off in Bahrain on March 20, don't forget ytour predictions!
  4. Indeed... it's 13:00 GMT (UK time!) and so 14:00 Central European Time (France, Spain, Germany, etc.) for both qualifying and the race. So I'll give the customary reminder, for the last time this year; Don't forget your predictions! P1 saw Verstappen posting fastest time, but in P2 he could only post 4th fastest, with Hamilton fastest ahead of Ocon and Bottas. Fingers crossed for a clean and entertaining race. And one where the championship is decided on the track, and not by the stewards!
  5. A couple of things came to my mind during and shortly after the race; Does it make sense that in a red-flag situation cars can be worked on (most significantly tyres changed) effectively "for free" before the race restarts? Maybe not such an issue if the red flag is deployed immediately after an incident, but more so after a period under the safety car. Admittedly, back in the distant past the situation was even worse where, after destroying the race car in an incident, drivers were sometimes able to return to the race after the red flag in the spare car. Should DRS be disabled - for the 2 drivers concerned - for a lap following a place having to be handed back? The collision clearly happened because neither Max nor Lewis wanted to cross the DRS detection point ahead of the other. I do hope we have a 'clean' race next weekend, but I keep seeing in the back of my mind the first corner collision involving Senna and Prost in 1990. Something similar on Sunday would hand the title to Max...
  6. Wow - what a crazy race that was! So with the Channel 4 coverage having just dropped the chequered flag, let's have a look at the points scored in our league today; Pos League Rank Team Manager Pts 1 8 0 Revers Racing Pete B 164 2 11 1 The JP Specials johnpflyrc 149 3 10 0 Torque of the devil Stu 146 4 4 1 Team Charles Picd Charles Pic 138 5 9 0 PSS Power Flyer 131 6 3 0 Essex Racing Tony Clark 127 7 1 0 Pitts Specials john stones 127 8 2 0 GASTON Formula Chris McG 123 9 7 0 teewrex John Tee 120 10 5 1 Igoronic racing iqon 114 11 13 0 DMFC Racing Team Simon Webb 110 12 6 0 Oyster f1 Glenn Philbrick 90 13 12 1 Norfolk Flyers Kevin Fairgrieve 89 There's a touch of the 'olden days' about some of our scores today, in particular with Pete returning to the sort of form that gave him our league title in past years. Pete takes top place today with 164 points. I'm 15 points further back in second with 149 points, just 3 points ahead of Stu in third with 146. Outside the top three, Charles moves up to 4th and is now just 4 points ahead of Iqon in 5th. Further down the table I move up to 11th, displacing Kev to 12th, but only by 9 points. The finalé is next weekend in Abu Dhabi - Don't forget your predictions!
  7. For the penultimate time this season; Don't forget your predictions! Saudi Arabia this time, and another circuit staging its first GP. Hamilton has topped both practice sessions so far, ahead of Verstappen in P1 and Bottas in P2 - though P2 was terminated 5 minutes early when Leclerc had a high speed crash at Turn 22, badly damaging his Ferrari. Leclerc was unscathed, and quickly released after a brief visit to the medical centre. I guess the Ferrari mechanics will be burning the midnight oil though... The race is another evening race, so P3 is tomorrow at 2 pm (UK time) and qualifying at 5 pm. Sunday's race is at 5:30 pm.
  8. Whilst we await a call from the RSPCA regarding the fate of Ade's octupi, we'll continue with our league results from today! Further down the table there's one place swap - Pete moves ahead of Ade, but only by one and a half points! We get a weekend off now, and then the two final races of 2021 on the first two weekends in December, in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi. Don't forget your predictions!
  9. Evening all, Qatar this weekend, and the first Grand Prix on a circuit better known for hosting motorcycle races. P1 was headed by Verstappen from Gasly, with the Merceds duo 3rd and 4th. P2 saw faster times than P1, with Bottas fastest, 0.2 seconds ahead of Gasly. Vertappen was next, over 1/3 sec off Bottas' pace with Hamilton just 7 hundredths behind. So, once again, the traditional reminder; Don't forget your predictions! P3 is tomorrow at 11:00 and qualifying is at 14:00 with the race on Sunday, also at 14:00 - all times UTC (UK time).
  10. Once again with the race being later in the day the Channel4 coverage is still underway, and has an hour and a bit still to run. I'll again make the assumption that anyone who is watching the Ch4 coverage and doesn't want to know the race results is NOT browsing the web at the same time! Hopefully they are totally engrossed in the race - as I was, watching it live. But if anybody is watching the Ch4 coverage, doesn't want to know the results, and is reading this, then STOP NOW! 11. Yes, I've just seen that... That could result in him starting the sprint from the back of the grid.
  12. Evening all! It's not just a GP weekend again, but a Sprint plus a GP weekend... Brazil, of course, and we've already had P1 and the qualifying session for the Sprint race tomorrow - the result of which determines the grid for Sunday's main race. Hamilton topped P1 with Bottas 4th and the two Red Bulls in between the Mercedes pair. Hamilton also topped qualifying aheaf of Verstappen with Bottas 3rd and Perez 4th. Hamilton will however take a 5-place grid penalty on Sunday for a new engine. Verstappen's opinion is that the extra power from the new engine accounts for the size of Hamilton's lead over him in P1 and qualifying. The Sprint is at 7:30pm tomorrow, with the race at 5pm on Sunday - both times are UK-time. Now, as usual; Don't forget your predictions!
  13. I'm trying my best to rival you in that respect Simon - but you're right, it's difficult! I even tried a little reshuffle of the "cheaper end" of my team before the weekend. I replaced one 'cheap' driver with another. The new one retired on the first lap. But at least the driver he replaced did as well!
  14. So with the race being late in (our) day, the Channel4 coverage only started a few minutes ago and is due to go on for another hour or so. This means that Ade drops a place to 8th and Stu drops to 10th. All other places remain unchanged. Next weekend it's Brazil - don't forget your predictions!
