  1. Yeah i am aware that all these motors come out of the same factory with different labels on em!. Thanks for your opinion, allways welcome
  2. Thanks for that Timbo, i was suspecting 6 cells but thought it would'nt hurt to ask. Now i can get on to HK and get one or two ordered.   Can i ask what you think of the motor? GC rate it for 1480 watts, should do the trick ok i hope?
  3. A mate just handed me a Cap 232 that has seen better days, i have stripped all the covering from it and intend to electrify it. My buddy says it originaly ran on a 46 2 stroke, but that was later changed to a 60 2 stroke as power was lacking.   I am considering the XYH50-55 580kv Brushless Outrunner from Rob at Giant Cod, seems to get good reviews from folks that have bought it. My dilema is the number of cells to use with the motor. I would like to get the same 60 size 2 stroke performance from the plane if possible (to prove a point). I reckon the 60 2 stroker would have spun a 13" prop so i think 14" should be  possible regarding ground clearance.   So 5 cell lipo or 6 cell lipo is the question? I have ruled out a123's as they are only 2300mah and duration would suck!   Thanks for any advice guys SImon

    SC 52fs

I think i will pick up a 13x4 prop from my lhs this week. Thanks for all the advice guys, and especially thanks Peter for the tips including the way of thinking about prop pitch as car gears. That actually makes things much clearer in my tiny brain. As you correctly state top speed is unimportant to my cub, i would much prefer better acceleration

    SC 52fs

Thanks for the fast reply Peter So you don't think that the engine needs a new set of piston rings then, good news as it saves me a few quid and some time. A tacho is a piece of equipment i will have to pick up in the next few weeks. Should i be looking for specific numbers from the tacho, i'm currently on an 11x6 prop but i may go to a 12x5/6 or a 13x4 to try to get a stighlty more scale appearance. I don't need exact numbers just a ballpark for me to use as a guide.

    SC 52fs

Hi guys i'm not a nitro head so when i recently bought a 2nd hand sc 52fs i was really suprised to find i had absolutley no problems in getting it started, i even manageed to set up the idle so it ticks over nicely. My concerns are these, firstly there is virtually no compression when turining it over by hand, and thats with the trottle fully open. Secondly the final 1/3rd of the throttle band does not provide a noticeable increase in rpm. I am also not convinced that i am getting full power from the engine. Although it's fitted in a H9 Cub and it's plenty powerfull enough for the model. So my questions are these, is it a worn piston ring/s? and if so are these easily replaced and aquired? I am not sure how old the engine is but it was a bargain and it runs so i'm not complaining, just trying to get the best from it  CheersSimon
  7. Thanks David, i have found the plan and article here http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/product/18106/blackburn-1912-monoplane-plan-mag1523  One last question please, is there any reason to buy the plan if i have the old magazine plan? Are the seperate plans the same or better quality? Thanks Again Simon
  8. First class report Chris, thankyou for taking the time to write it. Still holding up i hope after a month or so of use.
  9. I have found (at least with A123 cells) that working voltage is directly related to the amount of amps you are drawing from the cells. So the higher the amp draw the lower the voltage..... atleast this is my experience. I also use use 10 volts for calculations of a 3 cel lipo pack, atleast this way you are getting - Working conditions - numbers and not theory.
  10. Thanks for the info David and Bert, i will e-mail the guy in the link bert to see if he has the issue, failing that i take i should just call RCM&E customer services David?   Thanks again SImon
  11. Anyone even know if i could get the back issue? or is it to far back!
  12. Hi guys  I wonder if one of you could help me, a friend has talked me into building (in truth it didn't take much effort)  the Blackburn Monoplane from the November 2002 issue of RCM&E.  My problem is this, he has the plan as he removes them from the magazines when he gets them, but has long since had `she who must be obeyed` throw the magazine out (in her deffence - i suppose a mag thats 8 years old getting thrown out is understandable). Anyway my question is this, sadly the Electronic back issues only go as far back a Jan 2007, so if anyone has the accompanying article that came with the plan, i would love a copy of it. Looking at the plan there are a few areas that are not 100% clear and i was hoping the article would clear things up. So any help wuold be greatly appreciated.  CheersSimon
  13. Please give us an update Chris when you have had a chance to use the charger properly   CheersSimon
  14. I think a 208b it is then guys thanks. Chris if i tried to build a charger i fear i would probably build an IED think i'l give that a miss.
  15. Hmmm not ideal then Timbo, i have a Turnigy accucel 6 at the moment but it cap's out at about 3 amps for 6 A123 cells. Which leaves me not taking advantage of the batteries as you are well aware. As i am not asking for an endorsement :P but some advice is there a Hoby King or Giant Cod charger you would buy yourself (if limited cash was in the equation). I have no problem plodding away at 45-50 minute recharges until i get a new one, so if there is an all singing all dancing must have charger i could save for a wee while and plump for that if it was highly recommended.  CheersSimon
