  1. Oh sorry, remembered after posting. Hitec Aurora 9. Used an email coupon from TH and added a Hitec HPP-22 programmer to give $100 discount - Sweet I hope! Don't know of anyone who has one in our club but out there on sat. everyone said they had heard only good reports.
  2. I have just gone through the same process, DX6i user for a couple of years - no problem with it but the dollar rate is so good at the mo I thought time to to future proof! Agonised over spending that much on something that doesn't actually fly? Obvious choice was DX8 but the more I looked the more glitches, recalls and strange happenings are apperent on every forum! Anyway other options - JR too expensive, Futaba seem to keep changing their mind about operating system & confusing (FASST, FHSS &GDNOWS). Oh DX8 no glider setup. Then looked at Hitec - nothing bad on any forum I could find, High spec more than I need, good price. So what if I have to buy a few new rcvrs off to the States in a month so that will fix that. Hopefully I have made a good (right) choice time will tell. TH were the cheapest so have pushed the button. Hopefully it will arrive before I go Statesideor my wife will findout!!!!
  3. Thanks Graham, just what I needed from someone with actual experience with this type of setup, not needing a seperate receiver battery will simplifly things a lot. Also I have to lengthen battery wires by 12-14 inches as I intend to keep esc's in nacelles for airflow & simplicity, will fit extra capacitors and use 10 SWG wiring which I hope will eliminate or at least minimise any problems. What is your experience good or bad with this? There is a lot of contradictory info on this about but most of it seems to be theoretical rather than actual experience? Also I am using 2.4Ghz as most talk seems to centre around problems with 35 Mhz
  4. Hi Steve, what's happened the database has stalled? I emailed 2 setups in Jan/Feb they didn't bounce back so I assume you got them? Plus there must be heaps of Eflyers out there with info including conversions from I.C. I have found the database useful but it needs more input espc. for aircraft built up from plans, conversions and modification from standard recommendations by suppliers.   Regards Tim
  5. Need some input and thoughts re a twin electric motor setup intend using a separate Ubec to supply power to receiver and servos (4 control servos & 2 servoless retracts plus 2x 40 esc's). Flight battery 4S & 2S receiver battery.   Got the basics sorted but not willing to power up until I get some more input.
  6. Hi has anyone got an update on on their build progress? Winter is over for you and mine is just starting so I am gearing up to build on the cold nights. Looking at using 9x7 3 blade props but havn't settled on motors yet. Did some testing with a 3 blade on a TR35-42 1000kv & a TR35-42 1100kv but only got 240w & 270w respectively. Aiming for 350w so may try a 35-42B 1250kv. Anyway if anyones made progress I'd like to hear and happy flying & fair winds   Tim
  7. Been looking around for covering for my winter build & reading forums started to settle on HK film at $8.25US + post $22.00US for 5 metres shipped to NZ. Wondered about the quality when I found this thread with Russ's reference to Giantcod turns out its the same stuff!! Product codes & pictures are the same. Check it out! So am off to HK. This all begs the question how many manufactures of covering are there? Also does anyone know how well it takes paint, do you have to use something like prymol or light sanding to get Humbrol to stick?
  8. Hi Tony, wonder if the difference in delivery dates is determined by wether you subscribe or by it from a bookshop? Looked up our NZ distributors website which gives the on sale date for the January issue as the 20/01/11 !! Regards stay warm.
  9. Hay Shaun, maybe you live on the wrong side of the ditch, guess what was in my mailbox this morning???  Still better late than never. Oh and pity about the cricket, you know all us Kiwis were rooting for you, YEAH RIGHT!!!
  10. January 6th 2011   Don't panic there seems to be a worldwide shortage of the Jan RCME, perhaps the aliens have abducted them. I usually get mine here in New Zealand a day or two before the newstand release date but no sign yet and it's summer here NO SNOW.    Damn your British Weather affecting my holiday reading.    But hang on a minute, could it be?  YES, Global Warming has finally hit our hobby. Oh well out to the shed to carve out a pair of floats & I might as well make some skis too.   Ooh but when it does finally arrive I won't have to wait so long for the Feb. issue or will the snow in affect that one too.
  11. Hi Ian & Ton,   Just found the plan of the Miles M33 on Myhobbystore & your thread, thinking it may be just what I want for a downunder (NZ) winter project.   Guessing it would convert to electric ok? Probably work out to 3-4lbs.    Any info if you have progressed on it so far before I set the balsa in motion wouldbe good.   Tim
