  1. Just thought I would report my copy arrived in post this morning (Saturday the 20th) here in NZ. Must confess to being a slow reader as I have yet to finish poring over the Feb. issue.   Edited By Kiwikanfli on 19/02/2016 22:05:05
  2. Beth, almost missed out renewing my subscription because I never received a renewal notice as I have in every previous year! It may have got lost in the mail somewhere on its trip around the world but I would be surprised if that was case. Are they still being sent out to the Antipodes (Southern NZ)? Also I did find the renewal process bit of a minefield & confusing but now relieved I have it sorted.
  3. Another Japanese WW2 secret weapon that failed!!
  4. Having hankered after a Permagrit sander for 2-3 years as their virtues keep popping up in posts on here, and having read through this thread, I finally took the plunge and ordered a Permagrit angled sanding block direct from Mr Richardson at Permagrit. This was after trolling Local suppliers (in Australia I am in New Zealand) found the best deal was straight from the horses mouth so to speak. Although the cost X Aust. was a little dearer it was the freight cost that killed them one quoted Aus $59.20 for postage!!! the other (Traplet Aust. wasn't much cheaper. Mr Richardson was 7.15 pounds airmail approx. $16.00 NZ. Probably will arrive sooner than Aust. Posts snail mail too. As is so often the case it's not the cost of the item but the unjustifiable freight cost from a number of suppliers that kills online sales for me. They should take a leaf out of other online shops who don't inflate freight charges, some of the US suppliers i.e. Tower Hobbies for one.
  5. Merry Christmas to all from New Zealand, only one hour till Xmas day.
  6. I thought Fly In was a funny name for a chicken breeders show.
  7. Happy to report my September issue arrived in mail box this afternoon here in Dunedin New Zealand. Tonight I will have a read and watch the All Blacks take on the Wallabies in Auckland. Tomorrow I shall commit aviation all in all a perfect weekend - so long as the All Blacks Win!!!
  8. The M.M.F.C. Health & Safety committee going through their usual prestart finger counting drill
  9. Erflog, yes in hindsight as always!! I should have removed the cowlings & checked the security of the grub screws holding the motor to it's base, but having done that now and after another flight both motors are again loose horizontally so obviously the motors are rubbish and I will look at replacing them with something else. During this last flight all 4 undercarriage doors literally blew off these had been reglued at the hinges prior to 1st flight so they are going in the bin. Modelling here seems to follow much the same lines as in the UK. Our club Dunedin Model Aero Club has about 60 members flying from a well mown grass runway on farm land 29 kms from my home in the city. 58km round trip. We can fly 24/7 the only restriction is that as we are in controlled air space and have a low fly zone 1/2 a km. north of us. We are restricted to 123 metres ASL and must notify the local tower if flying between 7am & 7pm. All types of A/c are flown the only noise restriction is self imposed and members seem to comply. The land we rent for a small fee as it lies in a flood zone at virtually sea level. We suffer from a lack of local model shops here in NZ and prices are high, so most supplies are obtained via the interweb. New Zealand is a hilly/mountainous country espc. in our province (Otago) and lying in the southern ocean is subject to rapid changes in weather & WIND! Trevor, have had no sign of tip stalling although I let it fly itself off & allow it climb slowly on 3/4 to full throttle until height is sufficient to turn & do silly things like watching the gear doors fall off!!! Kiwikanfli won't let it beat me dept. Ken!
  10. Erflog, having brought the PNP version in what I was a very weak moment because I now regret doing so. Assembled as per manual, checking as much as possible without dismantling parts already glued by HK (first mistake). Tail wheel servo on separate channel to reduce & adjust movement of tailwheel without which excessive movement even on low rates would make the A/c snake up the runway like a drunk on steroids. Replaced BEC with a switchable version to control landing/nav. lights. Balanced supplied props as best I could. Flight one = no problems, down our manicured grass runway no nose over (2200Mah fully forward in nose) 2 clicks up elevator, flew for 6 mins. good turn of speed, behaved nicely through whole speed range even floated in on landing approach. Flight two = 2 mins. into flight heard a motor give 2 short burps as though it had dropped a phase before I could get it down, it went into a spin no chance of recovery as I was only 30-40 feet off the deck. Picked up fromm paddock next door it was rebuildable. Post mortem; Port bell motor had come loose from its retainer mounting, one of 2 grub screws missing causing motor wires to chaff on ply mount & short out. As the cowlings were already glued on arrival of kit I didn't pull them off to check security of screws although even if I had it still would have happened as the supplied motors are rubbish there is too much slop in the mount even if the screws are tight the alloy is so soft the screws will work loose and they only retain the motor vertically not horizontally. So far the rebuild will require 2 new motors & ESC's (one is fried) & I am going to chuck the gear doors as had already reglued them twice plus replace one hinge pin. Conclusion, although it does fly well is stable and has a wide flight envelope, HK's QC on this one is rubbish and they need to carry out some improvements to the motors & U/c doors. Sorry if this goes on a bit but needed to vent a bit of anger!!!
  11. Can't fly? they said you'll just have to wing it.
  12. Just received a second copy of the Feb. edition (rcvd first copy a month ago) instead of the March edition I was expecting. Having only recently renewed my subscription a few weeks ago does this mean it has started from the Feb edition? I did receive an email reminder stating my sub was to expire with the March issue. Anyone want a free Feb issue? Only cost is postage from New Zealand what no takers?
  13. Buy SWMBO a decent vacuum cleaner Tony, she must have worn out several dustbusters by now.
  14. Must have hurt - the tree that is or was?
  15. If you use the SPC function on Optima 6, 7 or 9 Ch Rx you get flight pack telemetry voltage showing on your Tx whereas you only get the voltage as supplied by your BEC if you leave the jumper connected to the SPC port. It is more useful for Leccy fliers because if your flight battery voltage drops the display voltage will still show BEC supply voltage unless you have total battery failure - then its all over anyway!!
  16. I want to see too, if anyone can show me some fresh ideas I might be able to make one that looks like a real pilot instead of a geriatric bus conductor. go for it Fraazen!!!
  17. Look out Tony's cleaned up the World's balsa supply now he's going to wrap up all the Depron. Spruce Goose a mere midget.
  18. In those immortal words YOULL BE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Don't know about Stainless steel bearings but if you want bearings any bearings try this site in the USA, Really good prices, selections, and the postage is cheap & fast. They have bearings for everything even your pushbike!! **LINK**
  20. Dave easiest way out of this one would be to put each flap servo on a separate channel & reverse one servo on the transmitter assuming you have a spare channel on the receiver. You will have to assign each channel to flaps Reversing one servo by rewiring it can be done but can be fiddly if it's a mini or micro. Hitec, Spektrum & JR servos all go in the same direction, Futaba in the opposite so you might be able to swap one for the another make. There is no way to fix from the TX while they are both on the same channel, whatever you do will apply to each servo.
  21. PaulH, received my copy 2014 special last Friday 03/10/14, if you haven't even got the October issue then the Subs Dept. need to something about it - def. something wrong there.
  22. No problems with here, lots of our people use them in espc. in quads. Problems may arise as with all leccy motors if you try to get to much out of them.
  23. Some members of our club have used the magnet method seems to work well, haven't done mine that way yet, just another item on the to do list.
  24. Hi Glenn, ditto for NZ. See my post earlier, seems as though delivery these days is via Cape Horn on a four masted Barque out of Mozambique via China.
  25. Still waiting for my issue to arrive, seems that for the last 4 or 5 issues they have been later each time. Used to arrive in my mail box at the same time as they hit the newsstands in the UK, now the last one was 3 weeks after. Must be put on a Bristol Freighter instead of a Jet? Oh well I suppose it will be worth the wait.
