  1. Really sad news but big thanks Jon for the time you have always taken in supporting us, beyond what we would expect. Hopefully you might hang around here or indeed on the Facebook group and impart some knowledge every so often! https://www.facebook.com/groups/3214227645472741/ All the best for your next adventure! Richard
  2. Oh they look really very nice! Lucky folk getting one of those beasts! Hope you don't mind me copying the picture over to the Facebook "Laser Engine Owners" group? 70cc...yes please!!
  3. Nothing stopping you turning up and just enjoying what's going on regardless of whether you want to just watch or fly. The Buckminster site is very well done and worth the visit. 👍
  4. Ah that's a shame. I'm up in Edinburgh so Buckminster events mean me travelling down the day before and shame to use a day's leave but if that's all they have available then so be it. I'd love a display of the engineering concept engines and also to see a run of the multicyclinder engines like the inline engines. Thx!
  5. Not from me. Happy to support the National Centre. 👍
  6. Excellent idea! The Laser Engines Group I run on Facebook also has loads of folk who would likely love to attend a Laser fly in! https://m.facebook.com/groups/3214227645472741/
  7. I'd be up for buying something if we could preorder it and it had some differentiation to reflect the 40th Yr. Just don't bring out a stupid priced gold plated engine like O.S.! What about a dinky Laser 40! 😝
  8. Sounds like we are good to go then! ?
  9. If we can use some silicon tube to extend that outlet then agree this is likely the simplest and most cost effective solution. With some alternative options at an extra cost being useful too. Thx!
  10. Jon, I am interested in the FT200 fitted to the Acrowot XL. Main issue for me is venting the exhaust out of the bottom of the cowl so a flexi pipe with muffler bolted to the bottom of the firewall sounds the best solution. If I just use the dumpy type fitted directly to the engine I would need to see how well this fits in the cowl and if I can run my own flexi pipe or silicon tube to vent outside the cowl? So you are suggesting the FTs will come with a dumpy type exhaust, with the ability for an upgrade pack to be added on which would be a flexi pipe that fits to the dumpy exhaust and has additional mufflers to fit to the end? Or would the upgrade option flexi pipe header go direct in to the exhaust outlet? If possible some images would help visualise the options.
  11. Exciting to hear! I've never flown a twin, is it obvious from the noise when you've lost a cylinder?
  12. These pictures are too much of a tease! Jon, whats your view for the Acrowot XL? 240 too much? I'd be happy to go up to the 240 as can always throttle back if too much power. Guess it depends on size and if it would fit inside the Acrowot XL cowl?
  13. Oooh, I am hoping to hear from you re the 200/240 inline twin but a gas 180 could work nicely too in the Acrowot XL that is just awaiting an engine. Hmmm... Richard
  14. I watch his listings and everything is listed at a premium but you know what... It always sells eventually! Some people like the convenience of Buy It Now and are prepared reluctantly to pay the big bucks. Have a look at his completed item sales. Crazy!
  15. Hi all,   OK job done! I didn't cut out a full section as on inspection the compressed foam still held the shape of the wing. I cut out the two damaged sections of skin and sheeted one side then filled out any foam gaps with new foam. I used gorilla glue which is superb as it foams up and fills gaps nicely.   I then fitted the top balsa sheeting. Applying a chamfer to increase strength. Sanded and covered. I'm pleased with the result. First time doing iron on covering in probably 25yrs 😁   Its not as robust a repair as some suggested like full length sheeting or fibreglassing but as it's the leading edge section and not the central section of the wing I'm hoping the lapped wood, foamed gorilla glue with additional cyano to the wood will help hold it all together.   Now to hunt down some matching red trim.         Edited By Aerotec on 20/11/2020 21:59:13
  16. Ah 18mm x 15mm is a 1.5mm thickness not 3mm! I found an 18mm x 14mm I will go for instead,
  17. Hmmm, Looking to replace the 18mm wingtube. I can get a few options of CF tube... Hobbyking 500mm x 18mm x 16mm for around £6 + Postage: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/carbon-fiber-round-tubes-18-16-500mm.html?wrh_pdp=7 Easy Composites 1m x 18mm x 16mm for around £20: https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/#!/cured-carbon-fibre-products/carbon-fibre-tube/woven-finish-carbon-fibre-tube/glossy-3k-woven-finish-18mm-16mm.html Or a thicker 500mm x 18mm x 15mm for around £16: https://www.ecfibreglasssupplies.co.uk/product/carbon-fibre-tube-18mm-15mm Should I play it safe with a 3mm thickness? Richard
  18. Hello all, Thanks so much for the detailed responses! I will take the advice and get started on a repair when I get some free time and report back here! I was planning to pick up the required materials at Weston Park but we have decided to play it safe and not attend the rescheduled show this year as I was going with my elderly father. I'll get some ordered up online instead. I have found a Carbon Fibre manufacturer who has a nice 1m x 18mm x 16mm that looks perfect for the wing tube. Does anyone have any suppliers for wing core foam as I am guessing it is denser than packaging foam. And any suggestions on how to cut the foam to shape without making a wire cutter and jig? Could I use expanding foam as that can be sanded but guessing it wouldn't be dense enough to provide the correct support? Edit: I have found grey styrofoam on the Balsa Cabin website.  https://www.balsacabin.co.uk/product-category/foam-sheets/blue-styrfoam/ Cheers all! 19. Yes and it ripped the undercarriage off too. Gutted as it was a greaser of a landing but the far end of our WW2 airfield taxiway that we fly off has a post and rope section to stop boy racers using the site as a race track. Ran right in to it!
