For all we know the person who posted this originally was prompted by his 'boses' to start the ball rolling. I do like a good conspiracy theory!

No I don't think that would be necessary at all Peter. In an age when private security firms transport priosoners to courts and run prisons, and private not-for-profit organisations run large empires of Academy Schools, and Charities win contracts to provide ways into employement for the long term unemployed, there is masses of precedent for private bodies running activities we formerly associated with the state. A private organisation (BMFA?) could easily tender to run the system. BEB BEB, who do you think pays for private outsourced contractors? There will also be a large Central Government Department behind each. For G4S and prisoner transport - think MoJ. For Capita doing CRB checks, think Home Office and around 200 civil servants in Liverpool. And certainly the BMFA will have to seriously up its game to even get past the PQQ stage of a government procurement. Edited By FunnyFlyer on 11/02/2013 14:51:25

I would go further. I'd ban people over 70 from flying without supervision. No beards or shoulder length hair - and this also applies to male pilots.

Guys - when are we going to give HK a break? We buy at rock bottom prices from across the other side of the world, then bleat on about a few extra £ P&P. Even the UK warehouse offers great value for money. -

I'm still in love with my new Mini Cooper diesel. With the seats down it can take a fully assembled Twin Star or foamie warbird. 3M gliders go in fine too, and it can easily be packed with four or five models. And the drive to the flying field or slope is always great fun! It never returns less than 48mpg in town driving - and on a decent motorway run at 70-80mph will give around 65 mpg. On a twisty A-road route, the fun starts and you will get a dent in these figures - but a big grin on your face. Edited By FunnyFlyer on 04/02/2013 07:59:21

PR really exists to just deceive the public. What a strange attitude to take. I too found the article interesting. BFMA news is unlikely to appeal to the majority of RC ARTF bred flyers - and nor should it - the glossy monthlies like RCME cater for that. What it does offer is a glimpse into the hardcore, non-trendy aspects of model flight. Martin Dilley's piece on the evolution of free flight competition models was a great read and shows just how much innovation takes place.

ParcelForce quotes for a 10kg parcel Northampton to Aberdeen: Why on earth can't the shop say. "Unfortunately we can't do our standard delivery charge of £x but I can do it for an extra £x. Are you happy to proceed?" Why on earth are people thinking this approach will jeopardise KLM's standard delivery charges?

BEB, no courier can insist on exclusivity on something they don't provide! "we don't ship to Aberdeen, and we'll stop you using someone who can." I don't think so. If they do, time to get a new supplier. I'm staggered that a shop will be willing to lose a cutomer because thay can't be arsed to pop a package to a post office. Model assembly and fitting with customer's choice of components Equip a workshop area and then charge a membership or per use fee for modellers to use. 3D printers, vinyl cutters, that sort of thing Strike partnership deals with big online retailers to showcase a selection of their stock that customers can pick up, touch and feel - before purchasing online. Have it delivered to your shop for local pick up at the customer's convenience. Hold regular Master class sessions on covering, airbrushing, computer radio programming and that's just a few of the top of my head!

@Avtur Thanks for your feedback. I've added a £30K start up stock loan over three years at £12K per year - assuming you can get that! BTW - I've just had a look at Gliders' eBay shop. Over the last three weeks - they've shifted close to £2,000 - and that is just from the people who can be bothered to leave feedback.

BEB - with respect, your argument doesn't stack up. KLM should simply say "It will cost you an extra £x to deliver." They should then take the parcel to parcel force or whoever. It's called customer service. They may have a special contract rate with their preferred supplier - but can always use another supplier for one off deliveries. I was at a "Rain Forest Cafe" in the USA a while ago. A family's youngest child played up and didn't want to eat anything on the menu - he wanted a McDonalds. The waitress said it was not a problem and she personally went to McDs and got the child a happy meal. That is customer service.

An AVA or Pike perfection with servos will easily top £1,000. With many modellers spending this much on their planes - I'd only have to shift 100 - 150 per year to meet my numbers. I have assumed a salary bill of 30K and made a guess at utilities. Some members have actual experience of running a shop. Do these numbers stack up?
