  1. I agree with much that has been already stated, I have a good collection of diesel and glow motors (2 and 4 stroke) I often repair club members motors at just the cost of the parts (mainly engine bearings) I buy old / new engine spares when I see them as our stocks in the shops are quickly reducing, again affordable glow plugs and fuel are becoming hard to find, I have used Southern Model Craft fuel more than 20 years and when I was talking with Dave at Much Marcle last year was confident the new owner would be producing the fuel at similar prices and quality, but alas I can't see any shows with the new owner attending???? I can see the benefit of Electric power but recently asked a fellow member how much he paid for the 6 cell pack was amazed and likely not going to last more than a couple of years, so for me I will stick with my IC motors for as long as possible.
  2. With the ever increasing decline in model shops and an increase in online shopping I think Ripmax should remodel some of the business to allow online ordering with direct postage to the customer rather than having to order via a model shop, I fully understand the need to support what model shops we have left but when your local shop might be 30 miles away is Ripmax maximising the market??
  3. Weston Park model air show, 4 -14 olds £6 entrance fee !!!! get real money grabbers, when did you see a 4 - 14 year old roll up for the event on their own??? supermarkets stopped selling sweets at the check out because of the pester power of the kids, if a young person wants to put down their mobile or virtual play game and take up flying Weston your doing a great job of not stimulating the hobby and market, stopped going about five years ago as it's the same old same old, food vendors eye watering prices and the trade line is getting smaller, sign of the times I'm afraid
  4. When I first posted this item I was generally concerned with the lack of information from the BMFA and it took two attempts to get a response (luckily I had Andy S BMFA email). The CAA continually issue Notam's for various reason's and to monitor the issues I guess would be time consuming, thank you Ron Gray for the info on Notam websites, this particular site allows you to filter locations. Perhaps a club committee member could volunteer to take up the role of checking the local area for new Notams maybe on a monthly / weekly basis. My primary concern is the time the Notam was issued and the time the BMFA put out a notification (in this case a day before the closure came into force) I know that Andy had been in talks with the WM Police, I would suggest that more dialog between the CAA and BMFA be looked into regarding notification to the BMFA of airspace closures and restrictions. Basically aircraft and heli flyers were forced to register with the CAA under the banner of "Drone flyers" smack's of the CB and 27meg fiasco, the authorities couldn't manage CB and with the influx of cheap drones into most superstores once again the legitimate flyer is targeted. I hear stories coming across the pond that our colleagues in the US of A are battling potential new legislation requiring each aircraft to send out a identifying signal...transponder type thing, what happens in the States normally filters across to the UK and Europe.
  5. Andy also pointed me to Skywise.caa.co.uk where you can register for latest updates
  6. Hi All Recently a club member of the Marston Green Model Flying Club (located close to BHX airport) notified the committee of a recent Notam that would come into force 22 July, on inspection not only did the restriction to fly cover our flying field but several other clubs in the central midlands area, the reason for the Notam ? Commonwealth Games. I have tried without success to get a response from the BMFA and Andy Symons. We have spent many hours trying to establish if our club can register with the Police and the CAA to receive Notam's and unfortunately we have come up with a blank. So unless you have an avid plane spotter or a pilot in your club it would seem you have to check the CAA website regularly. If the CAA are charging flyers to fly in a responsible way then I would suggest they make the effort to contact the BMFA in a timely manner with Notam notifications.
