  1. I saw your post on he VMC page, could you build from a plan?
  2. I see SMC do a kit Mike https://sussex-model-centre.co.uk/products/westwings-aurora-glider-kit
  3. I've dusted my Pixie off for some relaxing flying this Summer Video
  4. Thanks for all the suggestions so far. So from what I learnt it seems a fairly cheap gps tracker with a sim card from the likes of giff gaff (which are free to order) with a small amount of credit on would last a long time if you only 'pinged' the tracker when you lost your model, a 'ping' costs 5p. This way you avoid a subscription as well. The only possible drawback I can see is if your model goes down in an area with no signal!
  5. Has anyone had success in using a tracker in their model in case of a flyaway?
  6. Thanks, I'll take a look, I haven'tstarted the project yet, cheers
  7. Forget to say why ... I want to add a second crossmember which would be straight if I hadn't have noticed.
  8. I'm building the DW big Dr1 and I notice the fuselage formers behind the lower wing are slightly concave on the bottom, whilst I like the appearance is it correct compared to the full size?
  9. That's nice Alan, I hadn't thought of scaling up a plan, how about the Guillow's Mig 15, here's the Outerzone plan, maybe x2? https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=11610
  10. Looking on Banggood I see a 2s edf unit weighing 21.8g and 30mm diameter with a thrust of over 7ozs so maybe it's possible, given a very light airframe. QF1611 14000KV Vlotage: 7.4V Amps(A): 19.3 Watts(W): 142.82 Thrust(g): 215 Thrust(oz): 7.58 Efficiency(g/W): 1.51 Efficiency(oz/W): 0.05 Throttle: 100% ESC: 20A
  11. Has anyone converted one of the KeilKraft or Guillows (or any other make) or stick and tissue jets to electric EDF, I can't find any info of any examples? It could be a cool project!
  12. The Atom is finished, now all I need is a couple more practice sessions on the Luobo and I'm ready to go, thanks guys for all the help and advice.
  13. Also should I remove this small section of blade to allow full movement? I'm thinking I should.
  14. Hi guys, is the Coolwind rota head set to 90° to the mast on the Atom as viewed from the side? Also I plan on 1° to the left (viewed from the rear), or should it be a little more?
  15. Hi Richard, thanks for that reply. I've made my blades and added a 0.4mm shim using the material supplied with the parts from Malcolm at Coolwind, all will become clear in video number four 'Blade Construction' when I get the final filming and editing done. In the meanwhile, as you suggested, here is a link to the first of three videos (the others being linked at the end of each part):
  16. Hi Steve, I've made my blades but I was wondering about the angle you've cut at the root end, I don't see that mentioned on the pdf, is it necessary?
  17. Cheers Steve, just what I needed, this lot will keep be busy today while I'm at work lol
  18. Hi Guys, I'm cracking on with building the Atom Special (with a couple of mods of course), some of you may have seen my videos on YouTube, are there any tutorials on blade making. I've found a couple of videos but is there one specifically for the Atom? Sorry if it's contained within this thread but a search revealed no info. on recommended construction. Cliff (Cliff Harvey RC Planes)
  19. Thanks John, I think these little planes are often overlooked because they have to be built, and as we know, building is a dying part of our hobby. Yes, I have foamies in the hangar, but for the fun of the challenge these models can't be beaten. I belong to several Facebook groups that are global and there are still an awful lot of modellers out there but I fear in the next 20 to 30 years not so many, it's a shame. Of course, if there's a global foam meltdown happy days will be here again.
  20. Yes I agree JD but the car could only be parked in that one position, it was that angle or none, shame Alan Bean couldn't be blamed this time lol
  21. The Pfalz E1 flies well after all, persistence pays off, the first three attempts proved challenging. My initial problem was a rearward cg coupled with too much control throw and possibly to smaller a fin area, whatever it was after both wings being badly damaged and rebuilt she now flies really well, I'm looking forward to more flights to come, over short grass this time!
  22. My new studio / modelling room backdrop has arrived, I love it!
  23. I took my K8 up to Little Haldon for one of our Devon Gliding Days Aerotow events, it's run by Dartmoor Slope Soaring Club and is an open event, come on over for a cracking day out whether you're flying or not.
