  4. Hi all, Just purchased a 2nd hand Grob Tutor, the ARTF kit from Blackhorse. Does anyone have any advice to share as to how this aircraft flies? My current plane is an Acrowot Also, a specific question I have is, how many degrees of flaps would you suggest should not be exceeded?

  6. Does anyone know how to delete flight modes from the flight mode list of a certain model profile? Or at least set the switch that activates a certain profile to *no switch* or equivalent. I have certain flight modes on a certain model that I don't ever want to activate mid-flight any more, say, by accidentally hitting the switch that activates it. can't see how to delete these modes.

  8. Has anyone ever extracted torque measurements vs rpm for a model engine? I had hoped there would be more online than I have been able to find. I'm keen to see some data for something like a .25 or .52 2 stroke, to help me understand how propeller options actually affect the way the plane flies. I'm also keen to read about any dyno rigs that people have built themselves, if it has been done, and how torque was measured.
  9. Does anyone know where I can get hold of a 9x6 IC prop in the leamington/warwick/stratford area, ideally from a shop shelf today? My normal shop LHC only had a 10x4 in stock and I hated the way it made my Seagull trainer with an SC25 engine fly. It turns out I don't know of any other local hobby shops

The other measures, from compasses and altimeters, are duplicate measures of what the inertial measurement devices could theoretically tell you, but for practical reasons (as BEB suggested) cannot be relied upon. I too would like to know what these features will even be used for in a transmitter. And I think they both look ugly as sin. I have a Taranis, I'm allowed to say that. Hopefully the change in appearance of conceptual sketches to final production items in the transmitter industry is as drastic as in the auto industry.

I was aware of this, but it's not until now that I've actually wondered how insurers see this. I am aware (and have made good use of) the fact that the law/police will allow you to drive a car to a pre-booked MOT with tax or an MOT on the car, just insurance. But if you happened to have a crash whilst doing this, would your insurer pay out? All policies I've ever seen require the car to be "road-worthy", and the only recognised indication of road-worthiness that I am aware of is an MOT certificate.   12. After an ~8 month period of non-use, I'm reviving an SC52 engine. The engine was only about a month old before I stopped using it. I crashed the plane that the engine was in 8 months ago and so did not have the heart to plan ahead with proper storage and after-run treatment of the engine at the time. I'm anticipating some fuelling problems due to old fuel having remained in the lines/carb. I've flushed the tank with brake cleaner. Does anyone have any good tips for flushing the rest of the system? Is there anything else I need to consider before running the engine, given the time it's been lying around?
  13. Paul, "You need to tax it before you can drive it on the road?" Yes, this is still a legal requirement. "Can you tax a car who is owed by someone else? If not how do you tax the car before you drive it home?" Yes you can actually, although it seems unintuitive. For all the DVLA online payment system knows, the person buying the tax who isn't the registered keeper could still be a joint owner of the car, or a friend/relative doing the keeper of the car a favour, etc. "Is your insurance valid for an un-taxed car?" Yes. Insurance can exist without Tax or MOT being on the car. A reason for this could be insuring a car stored in a garage that is off the road against fire and theft, this could be done on a normal insurance policy. But this of course doesn't mean you are legal to drive a car with insurance and without tax, you still need both. And I don't know if an insurer will pay for a claim if the car was driven on the road without an MOT. Edited By Chris Anthony on 02/10/2014 14:07:08

  16. To clarify, for all those saying it would be fine as is, I imagine the default option would be "as is". So it wouldn't be intrusive, just another additional useful facility. One particular situation I'd find this useful in would be with a new build thread that I'm trying to get the meat out of. I can set the thread to minimum number of pages (max number of posts per page) and scroll all the way through, stopping only at the pictures, skimming over the words, etc.
  17. Of course it means thread. As it seemed to work before, I'd like to put my name forward in favour of having this option integrated into the site. If enough people agree, I'm sure the admin would be happy to ask the very competent programmers here at RCME to make this feature a reality.
  18. Hi all. I can confirm that the main (crank side) bearing is all brown, almost rusty looking after taking the crank out. Adrian, I believe this aligns with your description of failure, as I also get a noticeable whine in all running conditions (idle, on power, but most noticeably on overrun). John and Percy, thanks for the oil info. I'll have to look at my previous fuel's oil content to see whether I have moved over to something lower. I can't imagine what is likely to be such a small difference in oil percentage being enough to cause this bearing degradation, but I'm by no means sure. RC, that's actually interesting stuff. So do you think the higher nitro content (up from 10 to 15), and me probably being lazy and leaving some in the engine after use with no after-run oil is cause enough to accelerate bearing failure? I have been careful to ensure I am running closer to rich than lean (pinch test on fuel intake, the engine revs pick up before they die). But I haven't tried your exhaust snub test yet. Can anyone advise me on how to remove this bearing from the crankcase? I tried putting the engine in the oven as suggested by someone, but I then couldn't get enough purchase on the bearing itself to try and pull it out. Anything else to watch out for?   19. Thanks both. RC, mine whines when it's on the ground not flying so it's definitely an engine problem. Adrian, I do have some brown liquid evident in the main chamber when I take the exhaust off. It's not something I have seen before on these engines. Is the brown liquid itself the sign of bad wear? Or is it only bad when it starts leaking out under normal operation? It's currently half way through a gallon of a new fuel I'm using, which I can't get an oil content percentage for. I'm starting to suspect this might be related.   20. Chaps can I ask where you all bought your Seagull Yak 54's from? I'd love to get one in the yellow and black livery but am having a bit of a hard time finding them. I'm thinking about getting one of these as a follow on from an Acrowot, any flying advice in this regard? (sorry if you consider this a hi-jack, OP)

  22. Hi guys, I've been running an SC52 2s nitro in my acrowot rather intensively for about a month now, so far i think it's seen around 10-15 hours. I had it run in nicely after about 3 tanks. Since then it's been running on 10% and 15% nitro fuel. Well over the past couple of flights i've been getting a progressively more noticeable whining noise, which varies with engine speed. I am assuming it's a bearing problem, as opposed to piston/crank problem, i do plan to look at the engine off the plane tonight to investigate. Can anyone think of a reason that this might have occurred though? I'm a bit disappointed that this has happened in the rather short time of ownership, and can only imagine that it's down to something I've done wrong out of ignorance.
