  1. Hi Guys Is there a plan for the Gyroo had a look but can't find one. Thanks
  2. Thanks Garham I've started a build log on my website **LINK** Keith
  3. Hi Graham I have the kit and I just about to start it. Do you have the details of the retracts you used. I can see several on HobbyKing. Thanks Keith
  4. VC10 is now finished and flew in here BOAC colours. Check my website **LINK** for details and video. Lauch was off a bungee which was a little bit scary but OK in the end. Finally have my hot wire cnc cutter made and working. Fancy doing another airliner but not sure which one. Have consider the VC7/V.1000 but it does look just like a Comet-4 Keith
  5. Hi Glenn   Wiring the motors as two pairs sounds a good idea. I've done that on my VC-10 with 4 EDF's and 4000mAH lipo's powereing each pair Soon be ready for its second flight.   Brown paper covering isn't that heavy on the Lanc and it certainly doesn't affect flight performance. One thing I did find even on 10 cells pushed as far forward as possible I still needed some lead to get it balanced but it flew really well, see the videos. I flew most of the flight on 1/2 throttle its really just a big glider with some motors.   My advice 1. Use 2.4ghz 2. Use a separate receiver battery. All my woes were down to loss of signal partly my own fault on the last crash. 3. The oval tail fins are prone to being knocked off so I've use some triangular balsa on the underside and blend the ends in, Hardly noticeable but makes them a lot stronger.   One of our flying club members has the Multiplex cargo and he's made it look like a B-17 and used 3 bladed props and he's programmed his transmitter so he can power on or off the outer or inner pairs, he uses two lipo's one for each pair. Says once he's up it flies on 2 motors with hardly any loss of performance.   Hope that helps.   Lets see some pics when your done   keith     @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  6. Hi Peter No moulding just made with some balsa and pink foam (XPS). I cut a rectangle out of the XPS and used a hole saw to cut a hole just slightly bigger than the motor. Then used a hole saw to cut a balsa ring which I glued on over the hole. Then just a fair bit of sanding . There is also a hole in the rear of the nacelle for air flow over the speed controller.   Keith @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  7. I'm on my third rebuild of the Priory Lanc and have a website with by build and some video's. I'm converting it to brushless on an original wing and have some photos of the motor's mounted. I'm rebuilding with a new fuse and hope to have it ready soon. Its at http://www.rckeith.co.uk/lanc.html   Keith @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);

  9. Thanks Guys   I knew somebody would know of one.   Keith @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  10. Hi   I'm thinking of building a Vanguard and have found this http://freercplans.com/img-vickers-vanguard-510.htm but I wondered if anyone new of any plans or any issues of magazines that have some good pictures I can use to make a plan   I've got the Vickers bug now after reading Sir George Edwards biography   Thanks @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  11. Hi   I'm looking to build a Vickers V.1000/ VC7 http://www.ianbottillustration.co.uk/images/v1000video/Port-vickers-main.html   This was Vickers airliner to beat the Boeing 707 but sadly due to some numpties in government and BOAC it was cancelled 5 months before it was finished.   I believe the wings was of the same design as the Vickers Valiant and I'm looking for a plan preferably in CAD format of the Valiant. I've searched the internet and found some drawings images of the Valiant but nothing in CAD format   I've already done a large VC10 http://www.rckeith.co.uk/vc10 and this seems like a good project.   Thanks for any help   Keith @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  12. Thanks guys. I get it now, I was sort of there,its filled in the gey areas. Real good info  Keith
  13. Hi   I've been flying electric for a couple of years now, but still find picking a motor for a plane a struggle. Let me explain.   If a ARTF or a kit says you need a 300 Watt motor do I pick a suitable kV and then just divide 300 by 12 (3 cell lipo) to get the current and see which motor is the best match. I know you use the watt per pound rule to work out how may watts you need but how do I pick a motor to match that.   Thanks for any advice   Keith @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  14. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css); Hi Everyone   Well I started this post in 2007 and yesterday the 30th Jan 2011 my VC10 took to the air. It flew very well and here's a link to the maiden on youtube.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kR-nZucRVI Still not finished but this was a proving flight .   15. Hi A flying buddy of mine has built a flying saucer from a plan he's enlarged by  20 %.  He used the CG of the 20% enlarged plan.  It does fly but seem very tail heavy.  I've wondered whether  just using the CG as marked on the 20% enlarged plan is right,  I've used some of the on-line calculators for traditional models and that works OK but finding the MAC and Neutral Point of a saucer doesn't seem easy.  Does anyone have any suggestions    Thanks   Keith  @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  16. Thanks Tim   Sounds good, I was sort of thinking along them lines, good to get some confirmation   Keith
  17. Can anyone give any advice or experience on a quad edf set up, specificaly the wiring of the ESC's.   I have a build log on my website showing progress so far HERE   I have the motors and fans and speed controllers and I will use two 2200 3s Lipo's to power each pair.  Thinking of doing one battery on the inners and the other on the others.  I've built twin brushless e,g Green Air designs Vulcan and disconnected the  red wire on one ESC and this files well..     I'm thinking of using a separate receiver battery, so I wondered how I'd wire the ESC's.  Do I disconnect all the red wire's.  Or would I be better using a UBEC, not quite sure how this help but I sure I read something about it.   Thanks for any advice   Keith Edited By Tim Mackey - Administrator on 28/09/2010 22:38:14
  18. I managed to contact the guru Chris Golds and he sent me some great advice and details of his VC10 and its going to be towing two jaguars refueling .  Here's the gist of it. Yes, she should be out in the magazine (Q&EFI) probably April '10 as an article with photos and plan.  Mine is 50 inches span, bungee launched and tows 2x Jaguars on refuelling hoses - great fun!  4x32mm Derek Knight EDFs from 2x1600 3s Lipos (2 fans per pack) and has so much poke that she MUST be throttled back to 50% throttle to cruise without climbing, even towing the 2 Jags!  Without the fighters, you could easily (depending upon how lightly you build) fly 58 inches with NO U/C _ ie off bungee, from these fans.  If you used 50-55mm fans you would be GROSSLY overpowered.  My VC10 weighs 45 ounces and gives 110 watts/pound.  My Sperrin is 74 inches span and uses 4xVASA 55mm fans from 2x3s 3700 Lipos giving 130 watts per pound.  She HAS to be throttled back to about 45% throttle to avoid going supersonic!  And she carries retracts (10 wheels on bogies), flaps and twin dragchutes as well. I would not go pusher-props as modern EDF units are so good.  The VC10 plan might be of help to you, it is a box-frame fuselage clad with blue foam to give circular section, built-up wing and sheet twil section.  Looks good.
  19. I've uploaded the plan to my website at www.rckeith.co.uk in the download section.  It's still very much a work in progress and has taken a lot of effort ant research to get this far.  The tail section is drawn but I haven't really worked out how to model it yet.  Once I get the main fuse built I be able to see the wood from the trees!!  I hope   Keith
  20. My VC10 link is on http://www.rckeith.co.uk/ , sorry put wrong one earlier   Keith
  21. Hi   I've printed out the fuselage plan, using an A3 printer and stuck them together.  Its going to be a bit bigger than I thought.  Have a photo on my website of the plan witha tranny next to it to give some scale.  www.rc-keith.co.uk .  I've been moving outrcompany to another location (40 servers and all the cooms equipment) over xmas which hastaken me away from the build.  I should be able to get back on it now.  I'm still undecided about power.  Have been considering using 2 pusher props on the outer engines like graham dorschell has on hs vucan.  My plan is to get it built and then weigh it so as I can decide on power.  I going to aim fro 80-100 Watts per pound.  So once I have the weight i can decide EDF or pusher.  If I go EDF it will probably be 4X 55mm, but these are a squeeze to keep it looking as near right as possible.    Thanks for the interest.   keith
  22. I've had his for over 4 years now.  Just recently i decide to see if I could get to take off from a dolly.  I had 2 old undercarriages and a piece of plastic facia.  two wooden dowels at the front.    Here she is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=my_BPUEB_8g    Its much safer and easier than had  launching.  I have a video on my website showing a hand launch http://www.rckeith.co.uk/videos .   This a great flyer and always leaves with a grin.
  23. Hi   Has anyone purchased any of David Paltt Videos in the "Scratch This"  I was thinking of getting them on my christmas list.  I'd like to know if they are worth the money.  The write up in  Trapets 2009 catalogue in this months Model World mag looks impressive.   Keith
  24. Just thought I'd update this post.   VC10 plans are about 80% complete.  I decided its going to be 58" wingspan, with 4 EDF's.  I'm hoping 55mm will do the trick as any bigger looks out of scale.  Even at 55mm I'm pinching a bit.  I won't be using retracts as my field is grass and with it being depron it won't last too long.   I'm going to post the plans up when done.  Its been a real labour of love and I learn't loads on AutoCAD but its been really interesting.  I'd recommend it.   I've got a website at www.keith-howlette.co.uk where I started to document the build.   Should have some build pictures fairly soon   Keith
  25. Thanks Bruce.   I did try putting it back on but I can get it to lock now.  I think it may of got damaged in the crash.   I think I will get another and better protect it next time.   Keith
