Daren Cogdon started following Depron 49.5" Spitfire and VMC Balsa Basics Spitfire build

Have just seen this, if anyone else is contemplating building the Thunderbob, Takeshi or the Spitty.... https://www.4-max.co.uk/customermodels147.htm

So, for various reasons, my winter projects haven't quite gone according to plan! That said, I have built something - it's based on the J-wings Spitfire kit that I had (which, sadly, fell to bits!), but I have no idea what power setup it will now need! I made it from 3mm Westfoam-type material. Wingspan is roughly 30ins.

A friend of mine got me some cut-down arrow shafts from her local archery club, so I'm looking at maybe modifying an old Spit plan to have a KFM-4 wing. The arrow shafts would be used as spars to give the wings a bit more strength. Thoughts?

A few bits on the go: 1) Spitfire fuselage with some new markings. 2) New Spitfire fuselage to be cut out soon. 3) Takeshi wings ready to be shaped.

So, I started cutting some bits out last night....

So, a while back, I accidentally found a website for a company called J-Wings, who do a small range of foam kits in a similar fashion to Flite Test. And yes, they do a Spitfire kit. Naturally I bought it! Think it's about time I started putting it together....
-
Cheers for that.

I did wonder, as I've not used it a great deal before (being more used to hot glue on the FT Spit). I did try the hot glue on a few scrap pieces, and it seemed pretty strong. I tried a few longer pieces sandwiched together (as if I was doing the wing), and it was quite solid.

Is UHU Por the go-to glue for Depron or XPS?
-
So, I figured I'd better put my money where my mouth is and post up a pic of my pile of parts! They're a bit rough, but there they are.....
-
Nice! I have that book, too, but I've always fancied doing N3200, which was the other Spitfire Ia recovered from the beaches and rebuilt to fly. It's still a plan in my head....!

Well, what I read seemed to work on smaller sections, at least. So, I have finally made a start on the Takeshi build. I've started with cutting out the tail parts. They're a bit rough, so I won't post the pics until they look half-decent!

Another Depron question.... I have a warped sheet. I've read that the best way to straighten/flatten it out is to apply heat to it and apply pressure in the opposite direction?
-
Silly question, and I'm sure I know the answer to this already but would like someone to confirm..... Depron - is it just XPS foam with a different name? I haven't been able to find a definitive answer.

Love it. I might need a Mosquito in the near future....
