  1. Watch the Solarfilm Video! Made many years ago by Derek Hardman the manufacturer of Solarfilm and released as a VHS tape, it is just as relevant today with Oracover. Some kind soul has uploaded it to YouTube for the benefit of later generations. It will give you a really good foundation knowledge. Part 1 shows how to apply Solarfilm and how to cover a wing tip with one piece. Part 2 shows how to do a special effects including chequered effects, roundels etc. Part 1 finishes at approx 33 mins and Part 2 starts just after 40 mins.
  2. +1 for Flytron. Their high intensity strobes look great at dusk but do little or nothing to help during the day. Their is no substitute for good vision & flying within your visual range.
  3. My Fusion 360 won't open today either & I'm using he latest Mac OS
  4. Too late for you now Simon but for others we had the same problem with half a dozen aircraft from a deceased member's estate that had been stored for some time. Bathroom/Kitchen surface cleaner in the form of trigger spray bottles & wet wipes were very effective & did not damage the finish. Before & afters:
  5. The safety sheet for their 30 min finishing resin states ’6. Sets in 30 minutes at room temperature (77F or 25C) with full cure in 24 hours. Note - For cooler. temperatures, setting time may be longer.’ Apparently US room temperature is a bit warmer than those the UK!
  6. Best wishes for an early & full recovery Matty
  7. I've still got a Hitec Powermate II which was a popular battery checker before LiPos came into common use. That puts a load of 0.6amp at the 4.8v setting & 0.8amp at the 6volt setting. Futaba produced the BR-2000 checker at the time which also could load up the battery.
  8. You can certainly mix and match analogue & digital servos. But if you do so you cannot take advantage of the digital servos ability to accept a higher frame rate, the whole system must operate to the lowest common denominator otherwise you may burn out the analogue servos. That means in practice for mixed digital/analogue servos the frame rate must be left at the default 22ms for Spektrum (or 17ms for Jeti, those are the 2 brands I am familiar with) rather than a faster rate being selected under the 'Frame rate' options in the menu.
  9. 30amps-ish Well, 29.6amps on my Acro-Wot foam-e according to the telemetry (Jeti Mui-50 sensor) and I believe that has the same powertrain as the Wot4 & Wots-Wot
  10. It looks like the answer is - neither! Rather I suggest you use the Item - Value parameters as shown in the SkyWalker ESC instructions which vary from both of the stickers:
  11. There were a number of 3D printed aircraft at the RCHotel last year. Joe Anderson was having great success with lightweight & flexible filaments. I was quite impressed with them, certainly a much more viable medium than conventional PLA. I was able to fly the ones below whilst I was there and performance is certainly comparable to conventional constructed models.
  12. I seem to recall that Probuild-UK imported & sold those JR 9303 radios in about 2010-2012. They stated that they were imported directly from Japan, not via the USA, and were to UK specs. I looked at them at the time but in the end bought a McGregor imported DSX9 to replace my PCM9X.
  13. I've built the RBC Tiger Moth which is that size & used the power train from one of the Chris Foss Foamy Wots that I had lying about, it is more than enough & I never use full power. If you look at the RBC kits specs Link and that of the DB Sport & Scale version which is the same size Link it should give you a good idea, but I found the set up is not critical.
  14. And according to Panasonic, makers of the Enerloop NiMh batteries: "We've improved the metal-hydride alloy lattice inside your eneloop battery so that it retains 70%* capacity even after 10 years in storage. The design also resists voltage drop during discharge and minimizes loss of capacity. Once charged, you can trust eneloop to work just like a dry battery, and its long storage life is great in emergencies. * Capacity based on testing method established by IEC 61951-2 (7.3.2) when stored at 20 °C (based on Panasonic's estimation) and compared with minimum capacity. Varies according to conditions of use." The Enerloop pack I use for setting up models on the bench was bought 14 years ago retains its capacity & gets charged maybe once a year. Whilst I use LiPo's or LiFe's in most of my models quality NiMh's tend to be my 'go to' for slope soarers and are still a viable option in many cases.
  15. I've also been hit. A few pence for JetFrog was spotted by my bank (NatWest) who immediately blocked the transaction and my card. I sorted it out with them today & a new card is on the way. In common with many others I'm a Nexus customer.
  16. Here's an advert for the 'Jim' range from June 1978 RCM&E:
  17. Whichever Toolkit or ISDT best suits your needs, you won’t go far wrong with either
  18. As has already been pointed out you can check you CAA registration status on the CAA website, whether you pay them directly or via the BMFA: https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/my-registration
  19. 'A Plane Olde Bargain' has a duralene Apache for sale for just £40, plus a few other old SAS models on his eBay store. Link
  20. Yes, plenty of good stuff by some very knowledgable contributors in the book.
  21. I was also fortunate enough to meet David on a number of occasions at shows & fly-ins and again I can confirm that he was a lovely man who was always good for an interesting chat. I built a number of his designs going back to single channel days and in the 80's was active in the various 'Club 20' competitions which David instigated. This year's winter's build project is his 'Tinker' biplane designed in 1972:

  23. I believe the term originated in the USA in 2008 when the AMA (their equivalent of the BMFA) launched a specific 'Park Pilot' class of Membership. This is where the definition that Leccy provided came from. The 'Park Pilots' Membership is cheaper but has limitations and reduced benefits compared to full adult AMA Membership. In response to this Horizon Hobby introduced their 'Parkzone' range of models and the term spread around the world, although I am not aware of any official definition outside of the USA. When I last flew in the States I was given a copy of their magazine at a model meet at Old Rheinbeck airfield: Park Pilot Summer 2013.pdf
  24. I opted out of the landline with Virgin a few years ago & just have their broadband connection. It only saved a couple of pounds a month but the landline was becoming more trouble than it was worth with the number of junk calls. My smartphone was bought outright and £6 monthly to GiffGaff gives unlimited calls & texts plus 2Gb data which is more than enough. I kept my old phone as backup when I bought the new one, that has a pay as you go SIM that costs 20p per year - I just need to send a text to myself @10p every six months to keep it active.
