  1. Firstly are you sure it's a genuine Futaba servo? There are numerous Futaba fake servos & gyros in circulation for starters see this thread. If it's a fake consider the viability of your other servos. But fake or real if I get a standard servo that develops a fault I just bin it, for me it's not worth risking a model for a tenner. You could consider just using it on the throttle but what if it's got a high current draw & takes down the rest of the system?
  2. Fingers crossed it stays that way. I got my Carbon Cub out from winter storage yesterday, flew it on wheels this morning to check & have just now fitted the floats. My masterplan is to get to the LMA show in Haydock as soon as it opens Sunday and after a quick look round continue up the M6, all being well hope to be with you about lunchtime.
  3. So ordered fixtures to mount floats on my CarbonZ Cub from Horizon Hobby Europe, postage very reasonable at £3.20, I expected a padded bag but this box arrived (that's a12inch metal ruler alongside): in which were 4 pieces of wire:

  6. This has already been discussed see this thread
  7. Posted by Dave Hopkin on 13/03/2018 18:32:46: As a kid I used Nylon and Dope, is there any fabric on sale that heat shrinks that's not aimed at the modelling market, is there a specfic "breed" of polyester that will shrink under an iron?? As Don says there is Lightweight Ceconite, 66inch wide £6.26 a yard. Link
  8. WOT Trainer, as reviewed in the Feb RCM&E. IC or Electric, Trike or Taildragger configurations all from the one kit. I've not flown the new V2 but the original was an excellent sports model as well as trainer.
  9. Just sent off my application for Membership of WMWF, hope to make one or more meetings this year.
  10. Just a word of warning about getting there. On the How to get here on the website the map on the bottom of the page shows a postcode of SK7 1AG, that will take you on a narrow single track road to the Avro Golf Club on the wrong side of the airfield fence from which there is no access to the Museum. Ask us how we found out........ The Golf Club told us that seemingly everyone tries to go that way, we certainly weren't the only ones that day. Further up the page it quotes SK7 1QR and putting that in Google Maps shows that is the correct entrance from which you follow the peri track around to the Museum. I'd suggest a quick look on Google Maps satellite view before departure, to get your orientation, would be worthwhile.
  11. I bought three Turnigy Graphene 3S 2200MAh last year for my Convergence VTOL and Multiplex Funjet, both of which are demanding on batteries. The Graphines have worked well, comparable with or slightly better than other high C batteries and show a low IR. Only had about 20 cycles with them but they are holding up well with no puffing. The downside is the cost & the fact that they are about 10% bigger & heavier than 'standard' batteries, I will certainly get more if I see them on offer.
  12. Posted by John Lee on 28/02/2018 15:37:28: you will probably want a selection of as you progress Here's my selection, one of the S-M Craft knives has gone walkabout but will no doubt turn up. The rather grubby round handles are X-Acto, the darker red handle is genuine whilst the lighter red is a cheap copy.
  13. Posted by brokenenglish on 28/02/2018 15:46:44: Fortunately, there are quite a few "excellent service" mail order houses. Yes, and it is no coincidence that those with excellent service continue to survive & thrive. I'd count SLEC in amongst them.
  14. That will have been a Swann-Morton Craft Knife, still a good choice although I prefer the brass handled version. I have 2, one always fitted with the straight blade and one with the curved blade. Swann-Morton also do a selection of other handles & blades which you will probably want a selection of as you progress but the Craft Knife is a good start & is widely available on-line or via your local model or craft shop.
  15. Well if we are playing 'beat that'......... On Sunday 19 Feb last year at the flying site one of the members had a rather smart LiPo bag, bought via Ebay. After I got home that evening - Sunday remember - I ordered one. It arrived the following morning, just over 12 hours later, via Amazon distribution.
  16. I just chuck 'em in the car
  17. I'm another satisfied user. I bought the Tx second hand last year from one of the UK retailers who was upgrading to a DS-24, it's a few years old but has the latest firmware and looks & functions like new. I've switched over all the models I fly regularly (excepting the Spectrum BNF stuff) & it's been trouble free & a joy to use. As you say Danny it's a big investment but remains current, unlike my similarly priced JR DSX12 bought in 2010 which is now an unsupported DSM2 only white elephant. My Tx battery was upgraded to the 5200Mah capacity one by the previous owner & it seems to last for ever. Edited By John Lee on 23/02/2018 16:12:44
  18. Nigel, check out the manufacturer's website for details of the individual models. The single & duo chargers have the same menu structures but the 'guts' appear to be evolving quite rapidly.
  19. And a 3rd vote for the ISDT D2. I was impressed with the ISDT single battery charger in use at the RC Hotel last year & subsequently bought the dual version. Here it is in use with a BatSafe as a neat & comparatively safe set up for charging indoors during the winter:ps I normally use the set up on the (cold) hob in the kitchen, just put it on the workbench for this photograph. 20. They work OK but I found that there was too much backlash on the metal gears for the elevator on a Sebart Yak, which led to being unable to find a true neutral. That model was particularly sensitive on the elevator with my set up & I did not have trouble using them elsewhere. I ended up using a JR8231 on the Yak.
  21. Several cars already have sound syntesizers through their audio systems so that they can pretend to be what they are not. However for me one of the great benefits of an electric hybrid is just how tranquil they are when you are stuck in traffic. The utter silence when stationary with the benefit that all the car's features continue to work (audio, air con/heater, wipers etc) makes motoring so much less stressful. Then when you can move the electric motor's instant torque makes it easy to step off the mark. I swapped a 4litre V8 convertible for my first hybrid and honestly the latter is so much better to drive in today's urban environment.
  22. Percy, the Government grant is £2500 for mine & most (all?) other plug-in hybrids, plus I was able to negotiate a substantial discount which meant that the net price was a touch lower than the list price of the standard Prius.
