  1. Dear Enthusiasts, Just wondered if anyone is building the Vampire? My reason for asking is that I'm considering building one as my first 'traditional' build. I've 'built' & flown more than 20 RTF's & foamies & following a rather harsh 'landing' I now find myself with a 50mm EDF & electronics salvaged from an Arrows BAE Hawk. I'm assuming these leftovers would be ideal for teh Vampire? https://tonynijhuisdesigns.co.uk/mini-jet-vampire-32.html Kind regards, Julian
  2. Dear All, I discovered this website, looks too good to be true but wondered of anyone here has used it? https://www.rcseagull.com Thanks in advance, Julian
  3. Hi Peter, Great build thread, I hope you don't mind me chipping in! I had the same concerns as you about the tiny tailplane screws. I like all my models to ‘flat pack’ for transport & a removable tail is a ‘must’ for me. I came up with the idea of drilling the stabiliser & rudder cavity to accept a 30mm long screw. It’s an easy mod but I had to be very careful when drilling through the stab not to damage the threaded inserts. I started with a 1mm drill bit to break through & then carefully used increasingly larger drill bits from the other side to enlarge the hole. Assembly on the slope will be much easier now & I always take spare screws. The elevator control rod will, of course, have to be removed to get the screws in. I hope this helps. Kind regards Julian
  4. Thank you for all the replies, very informative. I have been given a Graupner Cirrus with the servo's already fitted. There isn't a lot of life left in the airframe but it's good enough to fly. Enclosed pic for those that are interested. Kind regards Julian
  5. Gentlemen, Could anyone tell me a safe voltage for a vintage FD17M Futaba Ripmax servo? I am bringing a vintage glider back to life & would like to power the receiver & servo's directly from a 2s 7.4v 1.6 MaH liPo. The voltage is not a problem for the modern Spectrum receiver but I can't find any spec on the servos. Can anyone help? Kind regards Julian
  6. ArtHobby manufacture a spinner that allows small elastic bands to be fitted to fold the prop. You have to drill and fix a very small hook into the base of the prop blade.

  12. Thank you all for your replies and advice. I will try the 'rust-oleum' on the foam, and the Humbrol Metalcote on the plastic parts. I'm looking forward to the results!
  13. Thank you all for your replies, The finished model should have around 80w per pound power to weight ratio so the weight of the paint is not ultra critical. I do however appreciate the advice, a pot of paint feels quite heavy in aero-modelling terms when you pick it up! I will go easy on the coats!
  14. Thank you for your replies, The model is made from EPO foam. I'll take on board your comments regarding weight.
