  1. Thanks Danny, however, I have used the top section for the throttle servo, but your suggestion has made me think that maybe the underside would be OK - suitably fixed with strong rubber bands...!
  2. Hi chaps, a bit off the current topic, but does anyone have a thought as to the best place to put the servo battery (specifically an NiMH 23006v)? Under the cowl seems a bit of a tight fit - i guess that it could go in the cabin, but a bit of an eyesore....Also, not much room in the servo bay. Richard
  3. Not to fret - only one wing and I have had it pinned down all day having wetted it. Took a quick look just now and much of then warp is gone. Will keep it pinned overnight and if need be spary some ammonia on it.
  4. Thanks very much Danny - however, having slept on it and realising that it has lifted some of the capping strips, I fear that the warp is just too big, so will have to strip, reform and recover...hate having to do things twice! Richard
  5. Hi Danny, I have been trying to find some text here where you said (I think!) that in the process of using a heat gun you slightly warped the trailing edge of the wing over which the flap will sit. I have done done the same on one wing and wonder what the solution is rather than ripping off all the Ceconote and starting again...? Thanks
  6. Thanks very much Danny, didn't recognise him with the hat that you must have removed! Richard
  7. Danny, your modelling skills are extremely impressive. I am not sure that I even rise to the challenge of a cockpit like that. Not withstanding, I might have a try. To that end, I am struggling to find the .stl file on Max Grueter's site (on Thingyverse?) for the same civilian pilot that you have installed. Could you possibly send me the link. I have a printer, so would like to have a bash as well. Thanks Richard
  8. Danny, I am on the case with my Auster build - see pic. Wings are finished complete with your flaps. but as yet not covered. Using Ceconite fabric which I find is slightly easier than Koverall. Seems not to fray so much and pinking shears help. Covering on fuse' has yet to be doped. It has just had a very light blow with the heat gun. Rudder will be close looped, but have just realised that I will have to move the servos to accomodate.....Elevator movement is as per the plan instructions. Richard
  9. Hi Danny, your comments about lack of banter and general forum participation have certainly caused a stir - so you can count that a success! I was on the Fury build and did complete the model, although to nothing like your standard. Sorry to say that it came to an end on maiden down to pilot error...! Just to reassure you that I am following you closely on the Auster build, but someway behind. Please keep up the extremely good work - it's much appreciated. Richard
  10. Thanks very much Danny, yes you understand. Not an easy task, but I guess that's why we do it! Richard
  11. Hi Danny, apologies for going off current topic - I am some way behind you. I have a question concerning the flaps which you have made and that I am now trying to recreate. I have made a template to match the airleron riblets (part number 208) for the flaps but am unable to determine from your pics how they do not bind with the webbing (part number 228) unless severely notched, which would weaken the trailing edge? Can you advise - thanks Richard
  12. Hi Danny, I was on the Hawker Fury build with you some while back and have been following this Auster build as well. I am some way behind you, but have a question. In the last part of the fuselage instructions - it says 'Servo Bearers (112) can now be fitted to suit your servos'. While I am happy to source my own bearers, I am unable to find part number 112 and furthermore, cannot see it (unless my eyes deceive) on the plan. Did you suffer same?? Richard
  13. Danny, Chris and Martian, Re printers, many thanks. Food for much thought. Richard
  14. Hi Danny, I am still very much following your build, learning much and enjoying. Silence does not mean a lack of appreciation! A little off topic, but nevertheless a question for you and others. I am impressed spinner you have had printed (and others have printed a cowl) and I am wondering what sort of printers are being used here and what type might be most suitable for the RC plane modeller. I am thinking of buying one and so any suggested links would be really helpful. Richard Edited By Richard Mallam. on 08/06/2020 18:55:40
  15. Danny, thanks for the info regarding the blending stick. Richard
  16. Hi Danny, apologies for silence, notwithstanding, I have been following your Metalcoat application closely and it is wonderful to see it done properly.. I used the same on my Fury, but alas, I did not glass beforehand, which has resulted in a somewhat substandard finish as the underlying balsa was too soft. A learning experience! I do recall trying to source the rubbing stick that you are using, but could not get one - where did you get yours from? Richard
  17. Mine is finished, but yet to fly. Having just moved house with much to do, regret that it might not make it this season. Richard
  18. Thanks very much Jon. I'll try the plug route first and see how it goes. Regards, Richard
  19. I am using Laser 5 fuel with a Super cat 4 plug and a 16 x 8 prop - not sure about the latter number tho. The mid point of the tank is in line with the carb. Not sure about valve clearances, how do you check that?
  20. Hi Jon, I hope that this thread is still visible - I found your clip very helpful in tuning my 155. However, I seem to be able to only get the top end to circa 7900 and the bottom to 2200. At both points, it flickers, so at the top it ranges from 6900 to 7900 and at the bottom, say, 2100 to 2400. Do you have any thoughts as to why. FYI, the engine is in the plane - not on the bench, if that matters. Regards, Richard
  21. Hi chaps, my Fury is just about finished. The CoG is more or less as per the plan. It weighs about 9 lbs with an OS 95 up front - any comments on this? I know that the tailplane should be chequered, but I've had enough - maybe do it later! Richard
  22. Hi Ernie, luckily for me I am retired and my SWIMBO is very understanding! Regarding metal for the fuselage, I used Metalcoat from Mick Reeves. Frankly, I am not happy with the result, I should have used some sort of balsa hardener beforehand as any pressure applied in the process results in dents in the balsa. Richard
  23. Shame it's gone so quiet here - I am nearly there. Excuse the blue solartex, it was all I could source. Soon to spray. Richard
