  1. I agree with Ron and would add great care should be taken NOT to add weight that will add little, but have a significant impact somewhere else (where you don't want it). Richard has gone to great lengths to produce a light and easy to construct model and although UC or flaps could be added there is one thing for sure it will do...increase wing loading. This is likely to translate into: More tricky launch Higher stall speed More violent stall, as it might drop a wing on you Higher landing speed with increased likelihood of broken props and damage Only my advice, but build it as Richard designed it, fly the socks off it and then modify it if you wish...then you can always remember how good it was as original. PS My BH FW190 has flaps that are never really needed
  2. Could be wrong, but IIRC advice was to dip it in primer and the thick layer helps hid the print lines, does of course obscure some fine detail.
  3. Buy a Permagrit, less hazardous to fingers
  4. If it was Much Marcle then it was Richard's Valach powered mossie and hopefully we will see more of it next year. The Johnsons brothers have a couple of smaller ones that they are planning to show so hopefully more mossies on the LMA circuit. With any luck there might be a nice sounding Tigercat to join them 😉
  5. Hi all, I have added "A pair of FW 190's" on the 2024 mass build thread have the first question that has probably already been asked? What servos have been suggested as I have no preference to make or model, just what fits best the Fw190?
  6. Hi and this will be a build log of two of Richards FW190's so we will just have to see how it works out! Bit of background and so its my fault for badgering a club member to try out one of Richards kits! We will embark on building in parallel and have already agreed to clear any backlog on the building boards until post Christmas, but couldn't resist a spot of contents checking! I have selected Red 23 and the other is yet to be decided so I would like to think I could sit back take it easy, but I have two models that need finishing off so no slouching on my part!
  7. Hi Graham, you have answered your own question to some extent. Its not the size of the model that's the issue, its the wing loading and sub sequential power needed to drag it through the air. Try adding another 3 lbs to your Ki45 and see how it performs and you might just find your pussycat has a very nasty bite! Trying to make a kit that people like me won't mess up by adding weight and will retain good flight performance is the goal in my book. Fancy taming a Moskito?
  8. Mr Odd here, "never have too many Spitfires" well I have never had one and don't intend to, opposed to the 10 or so twins I have! The Mosquito is possible, but if you want a fighter then Hornet or Whirlwind (or alike) The Flightline/motion RC P38 flies really well considering its weight and I am using the motors out of one for the FW190 and Tempest after a motor upgrade. One point with this is that it only has one elevator servo and the wings plug into the nacelles so easy to transport. Perhaps do the same with any twin and it makes transport easy. IMHO its about keeping it main stream but if you want marginal then the Ta154 Moskito or the FW192 (nice big wing, but twin boom) still could go for a P82 if you don't mind doing two fuz's! Plus you get to put two pilots in it! Not sure about the quad motor comment as the P38 is 63 inch and has the same motor as the FW190! And the upgrade motor makes it really shift (2 blade prop and higher KV) so it will have to be a big quad donor? or is Richard thinking 4 motors in one model 😉 This rolls me back to the Peter Miller GTC (people have made a Tigercat looking version with a few mods) that's 53 inch and flies well on one 4S3300 lipo AUW 4lb11oz. If whatever twin is kept 54 inch then its powertrain will be a lot less than once you go 64 inch + does it need UC if its kept smaller? The BH Mossie was 63 inch and needs a 4S5000 to give reasonable performance (5 1/2 lbs) PS - another odd fact -I have had more one out's with electric than with IC, but that's probably due to the additional prep with IC to ensure I don't get in that position in the first place!
  9. Hi, As much as I would like a twin I just cant see us getting the numbers unless its a Mossie, but I would put my name down for one anyway! There are twins and twins. I waited nearly 2 years for the Peter Miller Grumpy Tiger Cub kit from Sarik, gave up and friend/me paid Chris at SLEC to produce the cutting files and knock a set of kits out. Does that give an idea of the number of twins they sell? I think the could be mileage in a less mainstream single motor model (like the Tempest!) so I think Richard could look through the list of prospective asks and then based on his knowledge of what will fly well and build easily, then ask us lot to put our names in the hat!
  10. Things used to be easier when you dispatched kits in reused shoe boxes! "Oh just another pair of shoes, darling"...excuse only lasted 60 seconds and opening the kit on the kitchen table didn't help! Now the two Collies just walk past with a side look 🤣
  11. What a lovely pair! Sunday will be contents check and dispersal. Will wait until the mass build starts and then get the glue out. Massive thanks to Richard and the "boys" for another great job.
  12. Mossie, iconic, popular, but been done before although not many left around and a nice flyer would be good. So gap in the market F82 as nothing around this size, but a bit marginal, but I would have one! FW Ta154 Moskito, even more marginal, but would make a cracking fighter although it might need a slightly non scale wing DH Hornet, possibility? P38 has been done as a foamy, but then again why not Tigercat, but foamy's are available Ki-45? Welkin or Wirlwind? Only my opinion and I would love IC, but its dead at this size and to get the numbers it will have to be electric as the weight can be thinned without the multi vibrators attached to shake it to bits. Single engine stuff, Corsair, Hellcat, Wildcat, Zero could be options TBH I would have almost anything, but not an EDF (enough foam ones about) and I don't think Richard would be tempted with a biplane (again its getting the numbers) or could I be wrong?
  13. Graham, Don't worry about the order or dispatching as normally Richard will get to a point and then feed the boys with all the wrong food and drink...I won't be pretty (might even get the odd photo) but they will work 24/7 without a comfort break! PS, no news is good news, but if you have a question just ask
  14. Not noticed an issue on 12V power supply and heater in the shed, but do with the 5kw unit in my camper van (leisure battery) and that is the pulsing causes the battery voltage to dip a bit. this odes not effect the heater but makes the LED lighting go in to disco mode! So worth a good power supply or don't have anything else electronic running off the battery!
  15. ....What about the throttle not at low trick, I mean feature? I have some ESC's that seem to set their throttle low each time they power up hence its important to set your throttle cut to the same as throttle off/low + some TX/RX systems have throttle off set a little higher than the ESC deems as off/low so you add down trim (could do it in sub trim) and then it arms...easy to forget when changing between models that the sub trim is there hence the ESC sometimes arms and sometimes not. All part of the fun of using non OEM products.
  16. Eric, the old now you see it (yellow/black) and now you don't with the silver assuming the upper wing is silver? Al least it could have nav lights 😉
  17. Off topic, but relevant? Had a motion RC P38 and after flying it a few times in a scale way stumbled across a chap that crashed his on the maiden (Youtube). I did think a vertical climb and hard pull over the top (IIRC) was unscale, but each to their own. There were quite few negative comments and I sort of lost interest as it was a elevator horn failure, but that could have occurred as it decelerated vertically into the ground. Flew the model and it oddly needed quite a bit of trim (missed the significance of that!), then second flight (still nice and scale!) it plunged into a big hawthorn hedge with all leading surfaces extensively damaged and the elevator control horn detached. The point here is that on closer inspection there was next to no glue so it was a batch failure. Might not always be relevant posting, but I might help someone else out
  18. Might be completely wrong, but point 1 Yes the C of G is a fixed point when its measured, if you add weights at either end then the C of G changes So being a FLT operator you forktruck has a C of G, if you pick a pallet up then the C of G moves. Pick an excessively heavy pallet and the C of G will move outside of the FLT wheelbase and it will tip up The C of G does not change for the model unless something changes or moves. Tank emptying, UC that retracts/lowers fore sand aft etc. For IC (as tanks are normally infront of C of G I check C of G with them empty. I have a very tricky foam model with canards which is very C of G sensitive, bad news is the C of G moves over 25 mm reward when the UC goes down (which makes it very lively just when you don't need it!).
  19. Sounds like a great event, well done to all of those that have organized this. Best spend the winter building, sorting and servicing Lasers and British kits in readiness. Will there be any format to the days?
  20. As I am down for two Focke's (honest one is for someone else!) I'll go for decals for both and one of each (red 23 and red 13). Surely I can't go wrong that way!
  21. Happy to go with no manual and Tempest on a different thread. A request to the experienced/speedy builders, could you post your builds on your own threads. The reason I ask is that some threads either wonder off topic or get deliberately sent off course and take up pages of non relevant waffle (generally does not seem as bad recently). In the past I have cut and pasted the relevant posts into a word doc but that is time consuming when positioning pictures etc This way we can all see how others are progressing and can ask questions/get answers as individual builds progress.
  22. Risk of heading off at a tangent, but Buckminster does have a campsite with good amenities so its worth people heading up or back with a few days to spare either side of the event date to make the trip worth while! For electric (quite) flight its nigh on available from dawn to dusk so as long as the weather holds up then the trip should be worthwhile.
  23. Hi John, When I researched the Can Doo there were a couple of reports that it became hard to handle at higher speeds (one of the reasons for making mine) so I have just enjoyed it for what it is rather than explore the upper limit with a tent peg out come! What do you think makes yours more stable at high speed compared with say the Can Doo or other canard types like this?
  24. Probably a topic on its own, but quite a few people I know and myself included set up a rate switch (either individually or Elevator & Ailerons) on a switch (3 position). 50% 75% and recommended throws that way if you get something that's super lively and a flick of a switch you can reduce the control surface throws PS There is an unwanted effect of using low throws via the TX and not mechanically adjusting and that is the control surface becomes more notchy in its travel, so post maiden review how much travel you really want/need and set it up mechanically correct with 100% travel in the TX
  25. Looks a bit like a Can Doo to me. Hard to see...not really apart most people think its flying backwards!
