  1. I am building one for a friend, using electric retracts from FMS as fitted to their 68in Corsair, Robart wheels fit the struts supplied, but you will have to do some mods to the rails, I made new ones from 1/4 ply, this sits the unit lower in the wing so the top sheeting clears it, the Robart ones have the top of the frame angled so they clear it. Hope this helps a little.
  2. I have one in a Phoenix Typhoon pattern type model, running 6s on a 12 x 8 apc seems just about right to me, plenty of power and no sign of running hot.
  3. Hi Masher, Just built one, got the plan and laser cut parts from Belair in the UK, (i am in Australia) dihedral is 2 inch under each tip as shown on the Belair plan, great service and quality laser cut parts by the way, here is mine, electric power, flies great. cheers, Kev.
  4. Yes it was a bit of a shock about Airborne, just out of the blue, I aways bought one although the majority of the reviews seem to be arfs but that's a sign of the times I suppose, as an ex pat Brit I usually pick up the British mags when I see them but they are a couple of months out of date by the time they hit the newsagents, I will watch out for a new Aussie mag but so far have heard nothing, I hope so, our hobby needs some support, luckily I do have a good model shop 20 minutes drive away and he has a wide variety including a good stock of balsa and dare I say it, some proper kits as well, just bought a Top Flite Mustang kit this morning, I will finish the BT FW190 then its either the TN Spit or the Mustang, what a dilemma!!
  5. Looking at the plan I see what you mean about the fuz, it relies on the bolt on wing to hold it securely from what I see the TN one has plug in wings, what I will do I think is order the TN plan and have a good look at that, then see what parts from the BT one are usable, I have the TN 62in Spit to build next so there's no real hurry, we are only a month from spring here and the better weather, I cant believe its almost August, unreal!
  6. Hi Guys, Looking for some advice here, I have the plan/pack for the BT 71 inch Mossie, the intention is to electrify it using the set up as per the TN one that is of similar size, has anyone built a BT one with electric power? where is the best place for the batteries? I have not seen the TN plan at all being out in the colonies its hard to source these things, the cost of the TN parts is quite high and the freight cost is an arm and a leg, but is this the better option do you think? any help/advice would be most welcome, Cheers. Kevin.
  7. Nice, Steve, a great planes Ultra Sport canopy may work, worth a look anyway, regards, Kevin.
  8. I remember that as well Martin, where did that time go? and thank you for arranging transport for me, it would not be the first time in a Prison van for me, but I hasten to add I was always in the drivers seat, that's my story and i'm sticking to it!
  9. Having been banished to the colonies (Australia) from Gloucester 30 years ago I kept up the hobby, did the ducted fan thing for a long time then 15 years ago I built my last model, I got hold of a Graupner Kwik Fli 111 kit from eBay, where else? built it and put an SC 75 in it, it flew very well, great model. 12 years ago I gave it all up, sold everything, the last to go was the KF as we moved nearer to Melbourne for my job, just over a year ago, having retired from the Public Service i found I was drawn back to modelling, so I bought radio and an ARF pattern model, a Phoenix Typhoon that has more than a passing resemblance to a Dirty Birdi, went electric and was very impressed with the model, OS powered by the way, I rejoined the club I helped form and have been active ever since, about 2 months ago i bumped into the guy who bought my KF111, he had given up the hobby and was going to move interstate, long story short i got the plane back, damaged but fixable, i stripped it down repaired and recovered it (orange blue and white and the result is shown in the photo, power is a Tomcat 52 motor, 590KV on a 12x 8 prop 6 cell pack and an auw of just on 6 and a half lbs. Half power flies it perfectly although it needed 4 beeps of down trim until the power comes off then it resorts back to neutral, so i think a couple of degrees of down thrust is called for, but its a great old design and i just had to build its smaller brother, the Flea Fli is a nipple little model on a 3s pack at 2.5 lbs auw. its great to look at what people in the home country are doing and for the first time in almost 20 years i will be back for a holiday at the end of May.
  10. Chris that last shot is terrific I have the 72 inch one that will be electric, hope it turns out as good as yours.
  11. Hello, I remember holidays in Cornwall, Newquay, St Ives and all around there, great part of England, oh and RAF ST Mawgan watching the Shakletons come in at dusk, great memories.
  12. Thanks for the welcome guys, hope I will have something of interest soon, I will put in some photos of the Duelist that I am about to cover, also the Spit.
  13. Hi Andy, Its been a while for sure, those were the days mate.
  14. Reading this thread with interest, I have the BT Mossie 71 plan and parts, next years project, after the FW190 that is, mine will be electric power, have the motors and such but looking at the retracts at the moment, not sure what to do, air or electric ones. The brown paper covering is interesting, I remember Chris Golds I think using it on his scale projects, anyway great to see your efforts, cheers.
  15. Hello Gang, just saying hello, I live in Oz now, have done for 30 years but was a Glosterboy, Took a break for ten years but last January the bug bit again, have a couple of arfs but have just built a Spit and a Duelist.
