  1. After 8 years and 847 logged flights, my trusty .75-.91 Seagull Zlin's firewall finally came undone. Some fuel damage was also inevitable. I laminated up a slightly thicker firewall, to give more gluing area. The triangle supports were also made from laminated ply. (Not having any other hard wood strips at hand). Having during it's life added flaps, repaired a snapped fuselage and beefed up the undercarriage plate, this plane is now getting a little heavy. But she's not quite ready to be retired yet.... Here's the pictures. Zlin Firewall.mp4
  2. Cape Radio Flyers, Cape Town, South Africa. If you look carefully, you'll see Table Mountain in the background.
  3. Rebuilt and flying well. Might become a favorite... Bipe Funx264.mp4
  4. Rebuilt this 'rescue puppy. 52 inch span, powered by an OS 55 Ax. Lots of work but the result makes it worth it. l t this 52 inch 'rescue
  5. Followed by the fuselage work... Bipe Rebuild, Fuz x264.mp4
  6. This sad looking biplane was left in our clubhouse as a 'give away. Having nothing on the bench at the time, I took it under my wing... We aren't quite sure but we think that it is a Bucker Jungmeister from the mid 80's with a modified tail / rudder. 52 inch span and powered by an OS 55AX2 and 12x6 prop, it flies quite well. \ Not having built a bipe before, my biggest concern was calculating the correct CG. I'm glad so say that, after all the research and calculating , it was spot on. First up, the wing...... Bipe Rebuild, Wings_x264.mp4
  7. Just to follow up. All sorted and working, thanks to Mike B over on the Aloft forum. Easy when you know how...
  8. Need some help please. I have Installed my first Uni-Rx firmware on an RX8R and activated with the activation code and that seems to be successful. The green LED is on solid, the VFR is found under the sensors and when switching power to the Rx on and off, the familiar 'telemetry lost, telemetry recovered' is uttered. However, none of the servo outputs are working. I did make and error when trying to enter the activation code in that I flashed the Rx with the firmware again, then I re-read the instructions again and and went to the 'Activate' setting and entered the code. Would that have caused issues?
  9. I too have the 'Magic numbers for modelers ' save on my computer. When I did more electric flying, I found it to be remarkably accurate when compared to logged data.
  10. My Hobbico trainer after its rebuild. Strip ailerons converted to flaps and ailerons. Nav lights in the wingtips and a retractable landing light in one of the wing bottoms. Bomb racks with droppable bombs. The bomb racks are easily replaceable with small containers to drop little parachutes, two each side. There's a removable drop box, shaped like a drop tank, that attaches to the fuselage bottom. The wing struts are non functional. To simplify the assembly, there is one Rx in the wing and one in the fuselage. Powered by a Saito 82 it putters around nicely but is quite capable of doing all the basic aerobatics. It's my rendition of a Bird dog.
  11. Well, it's winter in the southern hemisphere and we've had a really wet one so far. Mind you, that's better than the recent drought where we almost ran out of water. But with an almost summers day forecast, a mate and I took off this one day last week. Pinocchio hasn't been flown lately, so it got an outing. Lunch on the coals, as usual... Pinocchio x264.mp4
  12. Yip, the Hobbico had seriously worn out torque rods on strip ailerons. It now has flaps and a servo on each aileron. It's also a completely different model now. Maybe on a rainy day I'll post the rebuild...
  13. These are yellow billed kites that we have during the summer months. for the most part they don't bother us and we often thermal together But we do have a pair that returns each year to their nest close to our club and they are quite protective of their airspace. This was taken last summer, they are due to return sometime in September... Mods, if the music contravenes rules, please delete.. Pesky Bird_x264.mp4
  14. Most of us may have heard that distinct sound of control surface flutter, which usually ends in abrupt disaster This is a .60 Hobbico Trainer that I aquired as an engine test bed. It always had that flutter sound and I'd often shout out to the previous owner to "slow down". When I actually saw what flutter looks like, this model was immediately grounded for a complete rebuild. 15. I get 'connection error' wirh one or two lipos. The solution ia to charge at a lower rate. Try .5A or so. In my case, it think what has happened, is that a balnce plug wire is a little 'frayed/ some strands broken. Thus it cannot handle the higher charge rate and subsequent balancing rate.
  16. My Saito 82B's manual specifically states "Muffler pressure must be used without fail"
