  1. All very interesting. What make, model and price of camera
  2. Thanks for that Doc. I will not be down to Sheppey till next week at the earlist, but will keep an eye oye on the shellness road. OK on the wind I though it might be like that.
  3. Well we possibly had a chat. Nice site, as long as the wind is OK. Question I forgot to ask when there. How often is the wind too much to fly in down there, as it is right on the coast.
  4. Thanks for that Mike, I did visit the Barton point club on the 4th Aug. I may well join it if possible, but thought that I would find out about the other place first, before commiting myself.
  5. Cheers Alan, yes but I fly both electric powered gliders and I/C radio controled planes with a 5ft wing spen. Also the medway site is about a mile or so inland. The place I am looking at is about 300 yds inland.
  6. Thanks for that Alan. Yes I have seen their website, but it is not the group I am looking for. At least I don't think it is, because whoever was flying had powered models, and the Medway site is for gliders and free flight only. I have also found the Barton Point club, but that is not the club either. All the best Nigel
  7. A few weeks ago I was on the Isle of Sheppey, and saw a few chaps flying down by the last retreat cafe on the Shellness road just past Leysdown. Does anyone know anything about this club, as I have been unable to find any referance on the internet. We have a caravan just down the road from there, and it could be ideal for me. All the best Nigel
  8. Have you thought of getting the chaps you bought it off around. Let them sort it, or give it back as not of serviceable quality. Get them to bring another tele with them. It could be something breaking down inside the TV, as it was ok to start with. If in a few months time it totally packs up, then it will have to go back to the manufactures etc.
  9. Thanks for that Geoff. I have not seen the series, so will watch it for the first time. Looks very interesting Nigel N
  10. Just made a new windscreen for my plane. Used a Tesco diet lemonade bottle. The plastic is quite a nice thickness for it. Worth a try at about 49p a two litre bottle.
  11. I have been looking for an easy/closer club. I knew that they flew at Kempton park racecourse. Looked them up on the web and found they had been kicked off in 2015, so they could put up houses. As of now, they still have not even applied for planning permission. That's 3 years that the club could have been flying there. This is what we are up against. 12. A bit like the real ale industry. Big sellers are still around, but it is the small brewer who has more presence in my local. Is it because there are not that many youngsters coming into the hobby? We have the same in amateur radio. In my club at 66 years old I am one of the youngest in my club. Nigel N
  13. That's correct Percy, and they had them all flying. Some took about 8 miles to do a circuit, as they could not turn quick in case that fell out of the sky. Saw my first ME 109 there, even though it had a Merlin engine. As a Lysander, with a ladder bolted to the side of it. Built like a bath house. As I said a great day
  14. Went to Old Warden years ago. Looked at the Edwardian planes in the museum. These were replica that had flown the that great film. Next thing you know they were wheeling them out and flying them. Great day out
  15. Welcome Quentin, You'll find a friendly bunch of chaps here. But they can get a bit excited at times.
  16. Thanks for that caveman. Just got the new exhaust, and a perfect fit. Nigel N
  17. Thanks for that Jon, and also Doc all noted. Never though about the wings being on.
  18. Thanks a lot chaps. Will get a pair of cutters. Will also solder where necessary. I just don't want the end to fray, so I can stick it in a clevis and solder. Geoff, the wire I have states that it contains lead, and if soldering beware of toxic fumes. So no nylon.
  19. Now I am upset. Laser Jon gets a PM. I get nuffink, hummff. Have I put the cat in with the pigeons, oppps Thank you chaps so much valuable info coming this way. Will get a rev counter. It is nice to know parameters, for engine etc. Percy was right in what he said as he had not seen the model and was giving cautionary advice. Thanks. As Jon said with one model he hangs on for dear life. Martin, yes I have both those instructions, and was a bit baffled. I would assume that one follows the manufactures instructions, unless of course the both differ, hence the look at the forum. Also I learnt at the age of about 7 not to stand in front of the engine. My Father had bought us a Cox .49 control line plane. As we started the engine I was standing in front of it, and the prop. flew off in my direction. In those I was wearing shorts, and the prop hit me on my shin. I was wearing long socks, so no cuts. But did it hurt, and the bruise was huge. Thanks Jon on the extra advice on the prop size vs revs etc.. Nigel N looking forward to all his PM's
  20. Hi Don, Part of the problem was, which set of running in instructions do I follow. There are two sets in the box that came with the engine, both have different methods. That is why I read about half a dozen former post on here about running in engines. One set of instructions tells me about 2 1/2 turns for needle valve, the other say 5 turns. One does not say what throttle setting for the first tank, the other says full throttle and about 8000 rpm. All very confusing. I don't see where I might hurt myself with the post I made. Percy said don't trust the tail plane glue because the engine will win. So I said that I would secure the plane with a few tent pegs hammered into the ground. trust me if I secure the plane to the ground, then Houdini would not escape if it was him and not the plane. Jon The plane is the old Bi-Fly 40 I have been finishing off. The engine bay was made for a 70 four stroke, so that is what I have fitted. I have a 11x6 and a 13x6 prop. Will pick up a 12x8 as suggested by several on here.
  21. Thanks chaps. Yes I am cutting the Bowden cable for the throttle. Tool station do a draper pair for about £11 so will pick up a pair from them tomorrow with luck. Perhaps will run in a bit of solder to be on the safe side, but will do a test cut first. Nigel
  22. How do you chaps cut steel wire, so you do not end up with frayed ends.
  23. Thanks on the 3 in 1 tip. I was going to put a 13x6 prop on for flying. So a 12 inch prop might be surplus to requirements after running in. Don't want to damage the plane before flying it. So perhaps a few good tent pegs through the undercarriage should do the trick. There are several on here who do not think following the instructions is the best way to run an engine in. It does not get upto a reasonable temp, to have any real effect on bedding in the engine. There's not too much difference between the two. Nigel
  24. I have read several threads on running my engine in, so no problems there. Will follow Lazer John's advice. Just a couple of questions though. I do not have a 12 inch prop, will a 11x7 be ok. Can I use 3 in 1 oil to lube the rockers etc, before starting engine, or does it need to be after run oil. I don't have a test stand, so can I run the engine in in-situ, I.E. whilst in the fuselage. Is it advisable to get a rev counter, or can I just use my ears. Nigel
  25. I have just made my first windscreen from scrap materials. I must admit I am quite pleased with the finish. I cannot remember who told me to use plastic lemonade bottles but yes they work, so thank you very much. The model shop wanted £7 plus for some acetate Bit rough round the edge maybe but still, will keep the wind off the pilot. So to who ever it was once again thank you.
