  1. There are special low tack masking tapes. Frog tape yellow is specifically for delicate surfaces. Frog tape Yellow
  2. Let's hope our CAA learn from this otherwise it will happen all over again here.
  3. As far as the low oil Laser fuel is concerned, there was some suggestion that older Laser engines should use the standard Laser fuel since they weren't engineered to cope with low oil. I have a 1986 Laser 75 which I will play safe with, the 150 I've had since the mid 90s I'm not sure about.
  4. The club constitution should use words to the effect that legal liability is vested in the club membership as a whole, rather than making the committee take sole responsibility. All members must sign to abide by the constitution. I have seen rules to this effect in clubs concerning activities other than model flying. Lawyers, please feel free to comment.
  5. Assuming you have assembled it as per instructions, it should be tightened as much as possible, failing that new fittings are available.
  6. There were two versions of the 150. Earlier ones had a bronze liner and were nearly 2oz heaver than the later nikosil aluminium cylinder type.
  7. RC Japan is the supplier of choice for glow plugs. I bought some OS 8s (provably genuine) which came in at £6 each delivered.
  8. I cast a new canopy from an old one in plaster of paris by extending the old one from the outside with some more canopy material, then blocking up the ends and making a frame for it to sit in while the plaster was setting. I then mounted the master on a vacuum box and vac-formed a new one.
  9. Try carbon copy... http://www.carboncopyuk.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=61&product_id=214
  10. Airsail still appear to be operating from NewZealand although they call themselves JR Airsail, is this a different company. They also appear to be agents for Hangar One kits.
  11. Mine had a Laser 150 up-front which was more than adequate. A 61 2stroke would fly it but it wouldn't do much more.
  12. I recently invested in an X14 for glider flying, I was advised not to upgrade it beyond Ethos version 1.4.17EU because of some problems with v15.
  13. Reports were that the Flyte 150 was simply awful and only lasted a few runs.
  14. Another likely culprit is the chlorine somehow becoming dissociated from the PCV insulation.
  15. I used some once but never again, the adhesive/colour layer stays sticky and it's doesn't hide the black surface of laser cut parts at all.
  16. Having kept all my models in a centrally heated workshop over several decades, the problem never arises. I'm convinced it has something to do with moisture.
  17. The tank is too low and just siphons the fuel back once there is no draw from the carb.
  18. Any antenna that has increased gain also has increased directionality, whether it be vertical or horizontal. Directionality = more signal gain in one direction at the expense of less in another so if you are at the limit of range, turning the antenna, may lose the signal altogether.
  19. It has been blamed on NiCads, when charged they can vent some corrosive electrolyte products through the re-sealable vent under the top cap of the positive end. Another theory I heard is that if the strands of the wire have been plated and not left as bare copper, this can inhibit BWC. More frightenly, I also heard that it has been found in the wiring of some airliners.
  20. I'm not sure if it matters whether there is an electrical connection or not since moisture alone may be sufficient to make enough of a circuit to allow the reaction to take place.
  21. On full-size airliners, winglets reduce vortices by a significant amount. So much so, that it can bring down the time between runway movements where lingering turbulence is no longer a safety risk.
  22. I would recommend removing batteries from models in storage. If there is no electrical voltage present to drive the electrochemical effect known as black-wire then it can't happen.
  23. Can someone explain why some items in Aliexpress see unrealistically cheap like an ESC for 40p.
  24. I've had success removing Solarfilm colour residue from balsa using methanol on a rag and plenty of elbow grease. Methanol won't dissolve foam so it should be OK on EPS. Profilm is quite a different matter, as the colour and adhesive layers are separate. It is possible to remove Profilm without leaving a colour stain.
