  1. On the BBC news this morning there was passengers videos of the engine burning the outer casing was meting and pieces were falling off, the biggest piece was the front ring which weighs a ton it dropped on an SUV which did not like it the owner was standing near when it happened. Fortunately no one was hurt.
  2. After this happened to me I always pin the hinges. I don't know what it is with this aeroplane but after repair it still pulls away on this aileron, it has no slop in the linkage no sign of flutter when flying, It has a Saito 125 fs up front which has a slight vibration and yes the prop is balanced. Note the rudder also pulled away.
  3. Don't see much of they up here, what a sight
  4. I use an old master balsa stripper, for top hinge ailerons I set the blade to the required distance from the top, mark where the slot needs to be the make the cut in the spar then cut the aileron on the same setting. For flat tail surfaces I set it to half thickness.
  5. That is a pin hole compared to my attempt to find the servo mount.
  6. I find Sellotape both sides and work from the corner, try not to let the tape stick together ( don't ask how I know). Great build David would love to see it in the air.
  7. T had no choice in the matter Mike, I had no 3/32" .Another thing turned up tonight ,the wing plate for the fuselage is too short and the holes don't match the plate for the wing also R1 does not have the slot in for the ply plate I found out after it was fitted , still it was not a big thing and the slot was done in with a razor saw. Eric.
  8. I think the colour scheme matches the carpet.
  9. Hi Mike, I did not get much done yesterday as the phone never stopped. Have you started on the fuselage? as the formers 4&6 are not right from Sarik you will see what I had to do at the beginning of the thread also the ply former 2 is slightly over size as I made 4&6 to match this but when I added the side and top formers they were slightly out. Not a big problem I just blended them in. I have started modifying the centre section for retracts, ribs 45&6 need to be cut out as shown I am using 1/4" ply to mount the unit on the Rear piece which fits in the original cut out is 125mm long by 20mm the front piece is 12mm wide rib 3 will be mostly cut away after the top sheet is on as that is the wheel well. the lower main spar has to be removed and taken back I will let you know how much when I see if I can get a 4 inch wheel in The Sea fury has 31/2" wheels. Not a very clear photo but this is the one I made back in the 1970.s Cheers Eric.
  10. Thanks Richard, subject not chosen yet, it will have invasion stripes. The cowl could double up for a coal bucket , starting on the wing centre section now outers are well on they have to be completed after the 3 sections are joined. I had a good conversation today with Barry Atkinson from Sarik. The reason for the two formers being undersize is that the Brian Taylor plan is out on the plan view they found out on the cad drawing and I checked my plan and it is out. No great thing as it is not built over the plan and they are going to address the problem. The other problems have been dealt with to my satisfaction. So good feed back from Sarik. Now where is that elusive Asda brown paper?
  11. None in our Asda either. I think Richard has sent us on a wild brown paper chase
  12. Got mine 2 days ago I'm an R and only re joined BMFA for the last 18 months
  13. From what you are saying Jon the flap ribs are attached to the wing ribs, they should not be and by cutting the flap out as Paul has stated it should come away from the wing. if the flap ribs are glued to the wing ribs you have a problem . Cut it out as Paul has said and if built properly it should come off
  14. I have found the best paint for Depron is Valspar masonry paint from B&Q, our local one will mix any colour from a sample, I took a a colour for a Mustang I built and the scanner copied it. It is water based and matt a 235g tester pot cost £3 that is a lot of Humbrol tinlets at over £2 each. Richard Wills of Warbird Replicas put me on to this he uses emoltion which comes in matt or sheen but they did not have the matt pots in when I called so I took the masonry which is smooth and as it is for outdoors it should be good for our use. Eric r.
  15. I bought some 10mm wide Velcro plant tie at Poundland abought 2 yr. ago it comes in a roll I wrap it round the fuselage and line it up carefully draw the line around then if doing invasion strips mark the next one and move the Velcro and mark the next line and so on then mask to the lines .
  16. Thanks Danny, you can call me a plonker again, when I ordered the kit last June I did not order the wood pack but made one up from the balsa I had in house so the wood shortfall is my fault not Sarik. The parts which are wrong and the missing parts from the laser cut pack I have had an E.mail from Sarik and they are going to address the problem. I did order another Brian Taylor full kit from them for a Corsair.so I will put the confusion down to my age. Slow progress today only 1 outer wing panel made. Last year I drew up and built a Seafury and used the Tempest wing plan with a reduced centre section span I modified the wing plan for retracts as the original has a fixed undercarriage, Due to lockdown the Seafury has had only two flights but the retracts worked well so I am happy to do the same again. Cheers Eric.
  17. End of day four, still a lot of sanding but I am going to start on the wings today so I can get the wing seating and fairing to the fuselage done when the wings are made. Complained to Sarik about the missing parts but as yet have had no feed back. I think I can finish it with what I have. I did think at one point of using Depron for the elevator but the 3/8" sheet supplied was very light.
  18. David ,you have come up with the answer for me, after my wife passed away I have not used the log burner. I keep my lipos upstairs in the spare room / workshop and no special protection I thought as they come all the way from China in a cardboard box and bubble wrap the only time to take care was charging. After reading of your misfortune I have been wondering what to do with them and you have provided the answer thank you they will literally now go in the fire. I used to work with a David Davis in Telford, he had a vintage MG TA I helped him with, would it be a relation?
  19. A fellow club member has just bought a Nexa Thunderbolt from Motion RC. he said when it went to check out the price was reduced. when it arrived he was hit with a £75 bill for tax and handling . He has bought a lot of models in the past from them but now it seems he would have bought it cheaper in this country. The Motion RC Nexa kits are a rebranded VQ model they include the electric retracts that are a separate item with the VQ brand.
  20. Jon , I glued mine in place on the bottom of the aileron spar prior to sheeting the bottom of the aileron, you will get more strength attaching it to the spar and some packing helps. it needs to be firm as you will be putting pressure on when screwing the horn on. If you place a r piece of balsa about 1/2" wide over the ribs and bring the plate up to it then it will be in line for the bottom sheeting .
  21. I like the cleanliness of electric Ron , but the down side is taking a load of batteries and getting 6 or 7 mins flight. I have a Tucano with a 40 yr old os40 FS in which I flew last year it was electric powered but the flight times were poor so I put the FS in and got 15 min flights and a great sound. It could do with a 52 fs as It was marginal on take off but once flying it was fine.
